West Allis is probably not the first place Milwaukee residents think of when they think of places to go for first class sushi. As the suburb's reputation for good Chinese has grown, West Allis might be able to add Japanese to the list with the opening of Fujiyama. First open in early 2005, this sushi hot spot is located along HWY 100 in the South Town Plaza, in the spot where the old South Town Theater once stood. Fujiyama welcomes visitors with Japanese lanterns hanging from the store front, once inside the doors, it's easy to see the differences between Fujiyama and the typical Milwaukee sushi restaurant. Fujiyama is spacious. One side offers a sushi bar, where you can talk to the chef while he prepares your meal. Another section is devoted to the hibachi grill cooking. Fujiyama is a Japanese steak house where the food is cooked on a grilltop table right in front of your eyes by master chefs who know their way around a knife. It's very good, but it's also 'eatertainment', where the chefs put on a show while cooking the food. When someone orders shrimp, our chef adeptly butterflied the shrimp and removed the tail with only the knife and a fork, then tossed the tails up in the air, catching them in the top of his chef's hat. My favorite memory is when plating some beef, he said, "Here your cow". Excellent. less

(Depending on the size of your group, you'll probably be seated with other people to fill a table.) <br> Not cheap, and the portions are a bit small compared to what most people are used to. I'd go back again in a heart beat if I was with a group. Not a good place for a date as they pack you into a table of 6-8 wether you know them or not. less
