Our kids liked it all as well did we. I'm glad we tried it, since I'm not usually big on take home meal service, but this was very flavorful and had a "home cooked" appeal to it. less

Restaurant: Eva’s To Go Date of Visit: 10/13/06 Food: * * * * * out of 5 Service: * * * * * out of 5 Value: * * * * * out of 5 Overall: * * * * * out of 5 I kept hearing about Eva’s To Go from folks at the karate school we attend. Everyone acted like I should know this place, but after 5 years, I still find that I am a relative newcomer to Knoxville. Today, Alexis and I finally got to try Eva’s To Go……only we ate in. From the name and take out implications, I pictured this place being a simple strip mall location with a plain walk up counter. Not even close. The Franklin Square location is quaintly decorated in a way that reminds me of a country kitchen or country store. I was surprised that a “take out” place would have such a nice dining area. The service staff are mostly middle aged adults with southern hospitality, adding to the charm of the place. We felt very welcomed, I mentioned to Alexis that they were the “anti-soup Nazi” from the Seinfeld show. The menu is simple yet has a good variety of hot lunch specials and homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. When they say homemade, let me assure you it is the real deal. This is not some diner slinging chicken salad scooped out of containers bought at Sam’s Wholesale. The prices range from as low as $2.95 for a half sandwich to $6.45 for a meatloaf sandwich. While we waited for the food to be delivered to our table, I checked out their “meals ready to go” section, which is a great option for days when you are on the go, don’t have time to cook a big meal, but don’t want to bring home a bucket of KFC. I got the aforementioned meatloaf sandwich. It is made with their special recipe meatloaf (which you can also buy as a take out entrée). Since it was just going on a sandwich, many establishments might be tempted to use leftover meatloaf or slather it in a ketchup based sauce to cover up bland flavor. Not Eva’s, it was a fresh slice of hot meatloaf topped only with a touch of mayo, green leaf lettuce and thin sliced tomato. It was delicious, had a great texture, and filled my hungry stomach up. Alexis choose the Quiche of the Day, which actually was your choice of 5 quiches. She got the 4 cheese quiche. It must have been good because she ate the whole thing (and it was a nice sized wedge) before I finished the first half of my sandwich. But then I realized why…..she had her eye on a nice chunk of Red Velvet cake. She took her time enjoying that masterpiece. I look forward to our return visits so I can try other dishes. If you can’t make up your mind between the caramel, strawberry, carrot, Devil’s Food, Lemon bar, Texas chocolate, Red Velvet, Hummingbird, or Zebra Brownie cakes, go for the Sampler Plate for just $4.75 and get a taste of your favorites! The kicker is, that the “eat in” business is really just a side show to their main attraction of catering! I can sum up our visit in 7 words. Great food, friendly service, and low prices. less
