This restaurant does not get the respect it deserves, ever since the attacks in New York on September 11 traffic in the airport has slacked off. Due to the lack of international travelers it almost always empty. The food is excellent! If you like ... more

Ask chef Daisuke Shimiza for his recommendations, parking is free if you dine in the airport so if you are a resident of the San francisco bay area or just passing through the terminal and want some real Sushi stop by Ebisu. I have been eating at Ebishu ever since i was a baby. I am a hard core sushi eater and have eaten sushi all over the world, and Ebishu by far has the best sushi around. If you like fancy sushi, and sushi that can be customly made to your liking, then definately go to Ebishu. If you've never eaten sushi and want to try it for the first time, I highly recommend Ebishu. You'll have so much fun whether you sit at the sushi bar or a table. The sushi is always fresh, and the service is Great! less

I think Kirala, Ebisu and Hamano are about even. Been to each one about 3 dozen times each. The wait and parking at Ebisu can be iritating. Hamano's parking can be awful as well. Each has its' strong points. They all have excellent NIGIRI's... ... more

I think Kirala, Ebisu and Hamano are about even. Been to each one about 3 dozen times each. The wait and parking at Ebisu can be iritating. Hamano's parking can be awful as well. Each has its' strong points. They all have excellent NIGIRI's....I think Hamano's edges the other two. They all make excellent rolls, however, I think Ebisu is just in a league of thier own. At Kirala..they are pretty well balanced...EASY PARKING. It's really hard to say who's better. I've had the opportunity to meet some of the staff at each of these places and been treated rather well....(Mr. Hamano can be..............strict...his sushi chefs are REALLY EXPERIENCED)....(Ebisu's chefs are very creative and friendly and live!)...(Kirala's owner is very nice..she treated us to a free dessert one time)
Let me tell you the key to Ebisu...get to know one of thier chefs....I think this is very true to just about any sushi place.

Ebisu is in the center of the restaurants located near U.C. Medical Center. As a result it has a following from the university who seem to be more interested in camaraderie than in the food. This restaurant has gotten rave reviews over the years. Swearing that I would not go back there again I had a lapse of good judgment and returned. Its typical of many places in that 7th and Irving St area. Crowded, noisy and a bit of drinking with a lot of shouting. The place generally was tired and dirty and the main purpose of the staff is to get you in and get you out. The sushi is okay but its generally thrown together and the place is not worth going back again. This time I will keep my word to myself and friends. Try Hana Sushi nearby. The sushi there is ordinary however the overall meals and service have been consistent and good over all these past 15 years I have been going there. less
