We wanted to try the Crab Trap and were excited about going..the meals were less than what we were expecting!! My girlfriend's grouper wasn't blackened as ordered and it was very dry. My Bourbon sauced salmon was not cooked enough and the sauce appeared to be made by someone not experienced with cooking because it was lumpy and cold.. Needless to say neither of us finished our meal. We are not complainers but were very dissatisfied with our meal at the Crab Trap. David Mayer less

Have enjoyed many great seafood meals at this restaurant & always find the food to be fresh, plentiful, hot & excellent! Unlike your commercial seafood restaurants, Crab Trap offers an impressive, extensive menu to please even non-seafood lovers. The portobello/cheese quesadilla is unique & out of this world! Highly recommend the house salad w/dressing -- fattening & yummy. Meals are usually accompanied with a smile :) less

I loved dining at the Crab Trab. We were seated at about 8:30pm and so it was very busy. Our Waitress was an english lady who was vey chatty and welcoming even though it was obvious that she was very busy. Our food was also of a high standard. Out of 10 i would give this resturant a very well deserved 10. It is a shame that all the restaurants in the area can not have staff such as this one. less

I treated a guest at lunch today, March 14, 2005, at the Crab Trap II restaurant in Ellenton, Florida. I had been there once before about five years ago and had found it to be satisfactory; not overwhelming but simply satisfactory. <br> Today was not a good experience. The woman who seated us was untidy looking and rather hostile. Not a welcoming personality at all. We entered the restaurant at about 2:00 in the afternoon for a late lunch. <br> With our entree, which, incidentally, was excellent, we ordered "a cup of vegetable chowder, " which we were very disappointed in. We assumed it was going to be a creamy chowder; instead it was more like a minestrone type of soup, it was in a bowl rather than in the advertised cup, and it was very spicy (which was not indicated on the menu). My guest couldn't take more than a few spoonfuls. I finished it but it was definitely not anything to write home about. Also, as any good chef should know, he/she is not supposed to serve a soup or entree with a bay leaf, or bay leaves, in the soup or entree. My guest did not eat enough of the soup to discover bay leaves in it, but mine contained two bay leaves; unheard of in the truly fine restaurants. <br> The napkin at my guest's place setting was soiled when we arrived, and she had to ask for another one. <br> The waitress brought us two small loaves of warm, tasty bread in a little basket, covered with a napkin. She did not bring us a knife to slice the bread with, nor a small board, which is par for the course in all fine restaurants, as well as not-so-fine restaurants. When I asked her why she did not bring us a knife and a board, she said "Basically, you are just supposed to break the bread with your hands." I could not believe my ears! I just looked at her disapprovingly, and she left and came back with a knife, but not a little bread board. <br> The service was slow even though it was 2:00 in the afternoon when we walked in and there were not all that many people having lunch there at the time. <br> I was curious about this state of affairs, and I asked our waitress if perhaps the restaurant had changed hands since my last visit, but she told me that they have had the same management for years. <br> On a scale from 1 to 10 (with the exception of our entree) I would give Crab Trap II in Ellenton, Florida, a 5. So far as the entrees were concerned, definitely a 10. <br> I doubt that I will be dining there in the near future. There are too many restaurants in the area that far surpass Crab Trap II in Ellenton so far as hospitality and plain common sense are concerned. <br> In retrospect, I should have taken my guest to Applebee's! less

On my recent visit, I found everything to be excellent! It is convenient to I-75, has romantic ambiance, and great food. The menu is the largest and most extensive menu I've seen. The entrees ranged from every seafood imagineable, to steaks, as well as exotic choices of ostrich, kangaroo and boar! The staff was very personable, from the bartender to the servers. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a "dining adventure"! less
