Cosmic Cantina can be difficult to find if you don't know where it is. Perry is a side street off 9th street in Durham and once you find the sign, you have to go inside and up a very worn set of stairs. The restaurant is all the way up on the right. The decor is spartan, small, and not particularly clean. The food, however, excellent and cheap. Portions are huge. By far the best mexican food in town. Oh, and the beer is cheap too. less

Being from California, I wondered if I'd ever meet a Durham burrito I like as much as the ones back home. Cosmic comes pretty damn close. Enormous (don't bother getting the giant, the regular is big enough) burritos stuffed with rice, cheese, whole beans, grilled meat of veggies, and fresh salsa. Many things have a healthy twist to them, and the grilled chicken salad and quesadillas are especially good. And don't worry--if you have been turned off by those nasty, dried little burritos they sell on the Duke campus, fresh ones are a totally different species. A few of my friends were reluctant to try Cosmic because the campus burritos are so bad, but, after eating a fresh one, they couldn't believe they were made by the same restaurant. less
