As a lover of BBQ this was a 'have to try' place, just heard so much about it. It is Texas country and its good not great. I would tend to save the gas and try others just as good in the metroplex area.
The service is okay (a bit slow, but you are in the country)and the portions are large, but it's just another style of BBQ to me and nothing to drive an hour to get to unless you have nothing better to do with your time. less

This is a big critic's choice in the area for barbecue...culinary magazines galore have done stories about it. But as for me, on my one visit there, I was not impressed. Wait service was good, atmosphere wonderful for a nostalgic barbecue place. But the brisket that I ordered, which is what is always recommended, was not very flavorful. Matter of fact, they serve their meat on metal plates (aluminum?), and I think I tasted the plate more than the meat. The meat was very tender and juicy, but the overwhelming taste of aluminum just did not fare well with me. This is a place I'll try again, just for the benefit of the doubt, but I sincerely don't think it will change my opinion. less

consistently rated one of the best bbq places in the US, this place is quirky, rustic, funky, and fun if you like great bbq. Home-made sauce in ceramic flip-lid beer bottles sit on each table, which likely wobbles on the creaky wooden floors. The food is splendid. They supposedly have laid hold of the recipe of the Senate's bean soup. Don't make a visit without trying it. If I am within an hour of the place, I make the drive each and every time. less

This joint is worth the 45 minute drive from Dallas. Don't get there late on weekends or you'll be looking at another 45 minute wait. (However, you can go into the bar and order right away.) The food is general Texas fare with barbeque, fish, burgers and, of course, chicken fried steak. People drive great distances to make this spot and don't be surprised if you see a celebrity or two in what is best described as a hole-in-the-wall. less
