It truly embarrasses me that Chuy’s is as highly-rated as it is in a city like Austin, which has a wealth of authentic Tex-Mex. It’s like saying that Chuck-E-Cheese has great Italian food. If people just liked Chuy’s for the kits ... more

It truly embarrasses me that Chuy’s is as highly-rated as it is in a city like Austin, which has a wealth of authentic Tex-Mex. It’s like saying that Chuck-E-Cheese has great Italian food. If people just liked Chuy’s for the kitsch factor, that might be okay, but the fact that people actually think this is great food completely mystifies me. Come on, Austin. It’s bland schlock. Don’t settle for this stuff just because you think the hubcaps on the walls are brilliant. Prove Austinites are smart, and go to Polvo’s on South 1st, or any place on the east side if you want actual flavor. Or for real Mexican, try Curra’s. less

I've been here before and had a great time - and have now been back recently and had another great time! If only for a happy hour - we had good drinks, free chips, fresh salsa, ground beef and cheese dip. Can't go wrong with good drinks and free food! the service was excellent - very friendly. Only appetizers are served in the bar area - full meals served in the main dining area. less

One of the row of low-priced, friendly restaurants that line Barton Springs Road just east of Zilker Park, Chuy's stands out for its determinedly wacky decor -- hubcaps lining the ceiling, Elvis memorabilia galore -- and its sauce-smothered Tex-Mex food. You're not likely to leave hungry after specials like Southwest enchiladas, piled high with smoked chicken and cheese and topped with a fried egg; or a huge sopapilla stuffed with grilled sirloin. This has been a local landmark since 2001, when Jenna Bush got busted here for underage drinking. less
