I can't stand this place...the hostess's and people behind the counter must hate business. They just stare at you and do not give even a hint of a smile. The atmosphere is very lacking, it's just downright depressing. The food must sit out for hours...never have I seen a food tray replaced with fresh, they just pile new on or simply pour more water in the tubs. Very small selection. Rice is terribly dry and hard. When I went there I complained about the popcorn shrimp being overly done because it was mush. The hostess actually came to my table and started verbally attacking me saying that it is how they cook their shrimp and telling me I could leave if I didn't like it. Needless to say I will never enter this shoddy excuse of a restaurant. Go to Hunan's. less

Chu's is a chinese, american, mexican buffet. It is hard to please all three but they do a fair job. Being chinese, that food is the best of all with the american a close second. As to the mexican food, it is of average. Mexican food in the midwest is all average especially if you have spent any time out west. Friday, Saturday and Sundays they feature prime rib. For a buffet, this is the best prime rib I have tasted. I have had better but paid more and got less. The atmosphere is friendly and the restaurant is clean. Evidence that by the rest rooms. I have been in very posh restaurants only to find the restrooms terrible. I always feel that if the rest rooms are decent and they take pride in them, then the rest of the restaurant is clean. As to one comment about MSG, I am very sensitive to MSG. If Chu's use it, it is very sparingly as I could not react to any pressence in the food. Chu's is a good mix of tastes that should satisfy almost anyone. less

I think this restaurant has a novel idea....mixing American, Mexican and Chinese foods in a buffet-style restaurant. I think the price is a bit too high though, and the Chinese food is so totally Americanized it's not even what I would call Chinese food anymore. It is an enjoyable atmoshere though. I was never stared at by any busboys, nor did I ever see any bugs of any kind. It is what is generally expected of an all you can eat buffet...nobody who wants authentic oriental food gets it at a buffet restaurant. If you want Authentic, I recommened Hunan's on 36th Street. Chu's is a great place to go if you like Chinese, but your companions don't, or if you have children. There is bound to be something on the buffet for everyone! less
