This is an amazing restaurant. We had the jamon serrano, manchego cheese plate, fried potatoes with fried herbs and sea salt, smoked salmon plate, a large bottle of French lemonade and shared a dessert (cinnamon chocolate ice cream). All of which was $39, which I think is very, very resaonable. And the dishes were just mouthwatering. While all the dishes were extremely heavily flavored or seasoned, the dishes were elegantly handled and each stood out as unusually good. The only dish that could be skipped was the smoked salmon because it was so ordinary. The papas fritas that everyone raves about are shaved very thin with a mandoline, flash fried, and tossed with fried sage and rosemary, then generously sprinkled with sea salt. Not to be missed. If you like quantity over quality (Olive garden, buca di beppo) it is true, you might feel short changed. But for those who appreciate tapas restaurants....this one is easily the best in the Bay Area right now. less

My favorite tapas was the shrimp in mojo verde but our group made sure we tried a variety of dishes. The fries (thinly sliced pile of potatoes) were seasoned and worth ordering at least twice. Just great fresh and hot from the kitchen. Another goody was the roast pork with bacon and mushrooms. Everything was so good we just kept asking for more bread! It will take a few entrees to fill up but it does give you an opportunity to try more items on the menu. Friendly and helpful staff. less

my 1st tapa experience. this place is always crowded; so i've always wanted to try it. it was worth the wait. the tapas were so great! @ the end, the price came out to be similar to what my boyfriend and i would've paid @ a nice restaurant. but we tried so many different dishes here that it's a lot more worthwhile to eat here than other restaurants. i don't think they take reservations. i also like the atmosphere. very... romantic if it can get romantic in a bustling restaurant. i really like! a must in berkeley. less

this was my 1st tapas experience. well, actually, some1 1nce ordered somethign tapasish from café de la paz down the street, @ a b.day party, but i only had a li'l taste. so i consider this my 1st tapas experience.
when i was a kid, i got a 4tune cookie from this restaurant new china station in san josé @ the corner of branham n' meridian, i think... it's now called golden sun. i guess it's actually a whole different restaurant. neway, i got this 4tune cookie, n' it sed: "there's nothing like good food, good wine, and a bad woman." as the budweiser fellas say, "true." urgh! why do i let myself fall prey to corporate amerikkka?! how can i catch myself repeating clichés from adverts on the telly?! argh! neway, don't it feel good to be wined n' dined by a gorgeous, young woman? *sigh* it sho' does. n' so... yes, my lovely gf took me out to dinner @ césar on fri nite. yes, 'twas very busy, very crowded. yes, 'twas the hip, happenin' place that it looked like it was from the outside. it looks more like a joint u'd find out on union st. in sf than a place that u'd find in b.town (berkeley). (berkeley has this many yuppies?! i thought 'twas a college town...) well, 'twas very crowded so my lovely date n' i sat at the bar. again, dang! u should've cn what she was wearing! she looked so good! man! mmmmph! who needs tapas? i want _that_! neway... want or not, tapas i got; tapas n' cocktails. mint julep: pretty strong, not sweet. the only kind of mint julep i've had b4 was from disneyland's new orlean's town place... by the haunted mansion... this sexy woman who was taking me to dinner, she had this apple cocktail which wasn't as strong n' had a cherry in it. i like tieing cherry stems.
cod n' potato dip: yum.
cheese n' greens baguette sandwich: yum.
gardenweed salad w/ vinagrette: yum.
spicy tuna n' boiled egg baguette sandwich: yum, but it's not spicy @ all.
roasted grapes n' ham: yum. wow, that ham sho' looks fatty!
neway, what a great dinner... but something gave me a very bad upset stomach. my gf 2! i dunno what it was... weird. but it was all really tasty. notice i still give this restaurant 4 stars altho' i had this nauseating, fud.poisining.like stomach/head problem? i think the fud was really creative. i think 'twas good.
i didn't have the patatas... i don't understand what they are. papas? peppers, right? so patatas = papas fritatas = fried peppers? i'm so clueless...
