Italian food is my absolute favorite so I have tried many different places and dishes. This restaurant was my absolute favorite! The garlic pesto on bread to begin with was wonderful and my gnocchi was blissful, it just melted like nothing I have ever had before. The setting and feel of the whole place was great, I loved the little European escape from the big city. less

I was staying overnight after a business meeting near the Embarcadero and the concierge directed me to Cafe Tiramisu. I had a simple beer with the gnocchi. A wonderful dinner although I really wished my girlfriend was there. Very romantic place. Great with the kitchen right there in front of you and small alley setting helps build intimacy of the narrow restaurant. Would recommend to anyone. less

We walked into the place without really expecting much. The main dining room upstairs had a rustic feel, complete with a faux fresco mural around the entire room. There were about 6 more tables downstairs in the "wine cellar." The upstairs can get noisy, especially with tables set so close together. On to the food. We were pleasantly surprised by the seared scallops, black ink risotto, and lobster bisque appetizer that was large enough for two persons to share. The arborio rice was perfectly cooked-very moist and flavorful. For entrees, we had the mixed seafood grill and the veal ossobuco. The seafood grill was competently done- very fresh- however, it lacked any real zing to it. The ossobuco was also competently done, complemented well by the polenta underneath- a perfect match for a chilly S.F. evening. For dessert, we had the vanilla creme brulee and an apple- strawberry crisp with honey vanilla ice cream. We thought the creme brulee was rich and creamy- the way it should be. However, the apple crisp was just ok. Overall, Cafe Tiramisu is a very nice restaurant for the price. It is however, not in par with the more creative and innovative Italian restaurants in the city. Perhaps, that is the whole point of Cafe Tiramisu. less
