I've been going to the Border for many years now. The menu is good. Think Mexican meets Southwest meets Cajun. Nothing spectacular but it is decent and you won't get a bad meal. I have been going to this location "Leominster" since it was another Tex-Mex restaurant named Poncho Villas. The Border is and has been my family’s favorite restaurant in the area and my wife and I have been going there since we met 13 years ago. The Border more than any other eatery in the area has put together a number of aspects that are important to me, service, atmosphere, food variety, and food quality. I am reviewing this restaurant in its respective category, it is not fine dining, it is a fun place to get some great Tex-Mex food with good portions. <br> Service, rarely in 13 years of regularly attending this location have I been left waiting for long periods of time, either to order another drink, ask for another item, or for the check. I am also very picky about the demeanor of the server and I have never felt as if the waiter or waitress was annoyed, lethargic or hated their job. They maintain a very energetic and friendly staff. <br> The atmosphere is fun, with kids pictures, sombreros, teal and red panted walls and beams in a southwest style, the place is clean and the lighting is just where I like it, not to dark and not to light. <br> Food variety is excellent and the menu has evolved over the years. One thing I appreciate is an interesting variety of appetizers, and the border has that. They have seafood, chicken, steak in both the burrito/tacos/enchilada styles along with hearty grilled versions of steaks, ribs, chicken and fish, topped with a variety of ingredients or simple. <br> The food quality is the prime reason we continue to love this place. Their dressings, salsa's and guacamole are all homemade. The meats, in contrast to many chain restaurants taste as fresh as if you bought the meat yourself. Right down to the freshly shaved mozzarella on your taco which tastes delicious, you haven't had a taco unless you've had one with fresh mozzarella, the quality of the ingredients make the meal. This is NOT a chain restaurant and it tastes like it. They have also in recent years opened a location in Gardner Mass, which I have not visited. <br> <br> Some suggestions, <br> The Creamy Garlic Ranch dressing homemade is delicious and good for anything you want to dip in it. The salads are always crisp and fresh with freshly toasted croutons. <br> The home made guacamole is very good. <br> The Border Wings are a nice twist on hot wings, sometimes painfully hot they use "Border" sauce that includes lots of red pepper flakes. <br> Fajitas are the best around, and many varieties and combos are offered. <br> Monroe's famous ribs, nice pork ribs tacky with their delicious BBQ sauce. <br> They have a red pepper mayo, or salsa mayo that is tremendous on their chicken sandwich, ask for it! <br> , ,, Well I could go on all day and now I am fiending to go back, go try it out! less

For those of us who grew up in the Southwest but now live in the Northeast, finding a good Southwestern Restaurant has always been a challenge. I can never forget being served ketchup with a taco many years ago in a "Mexican" restarant here in Massachusetts. So, if you are looking for a Southwestern Cusine restaurant, I strongly recommend the Border. It would be unfair to characterize this restaurant as Mexican. It serves a type of cusine associated with the American Southwest, particulary Southern California and Arizona. Mexican specialties abound, there are enchiladas, tacos, burritos and chimichangas galore but more of the type that one would find in Phoenix or San Diego than in Hermosillo or Mexico City (Yes, I know that Mexican regional cooking is varied and it is unfair to characterize that cusine, which is my point). Barbecue and cajun specialties are also offered. Salsa is homemade and chips are plentiful. I especially recommend the fajitas, and the enchiladas. The Margaritas are worthy or consumption. The lunch buffet is a good deal, (around $7.00) with plenty to offer. The Border is easily accessible off Route 2 in Leominster and is adjacent to Searstown Mall. It is not a chain restaurant and can offer something more substantial than a Chili's or a Chi Chi's. All major credit cards are accepted. Highly recommended! less
