Bigdogz is located very close to our home, so I have visited and gotten "take-out" from here many times -- for convenience, if for no other reason. And here's the thing ... If I were basing my review on general atmosphere, waitstaff, & SANDWICHES only -- it'd get 4 stars, no problem. However, I hafta base this on my experience as a whole, and unfortunately ... my husband and I have had a few VERY mediocre meals, and that, my fellow diners, is being extremely generous. One night my husband ordered nachos grande... the meat was burnt, which ruined the nachos -- they were just gross. And they had both liquid nacho cheese, and (ONLY PARTIALLY melted) shredded cheese, which made for a weird combination, texture, and tons of sogginess. Maybe the cook was off that night ... because on this occasion, I ordered a salad. This is where things went horribly wrong. Now when you read "VEGETABLE SALAD" on a menu, with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, etc. -- what do you think of? Fresh veggies, tossed with lettuce, maybe some cheese, & croutons, right? Well, not in this case. Bigdogz uses a pack of mixed frozen vegetables (likely microwaved to thaw), and throws it on top of lettuce with some heated, wilted "grilled onions & peppers." Even the CARROTS were the SteamFresh crap, which there is no excuse for, sorry. Carrots are cheap, used frequently, last forever, & are readily available! So if that's your style - go for it. But not mine. When I order a salad, I want FRESH, COLD veggies. Not heated ones, and ESPECIALLY not microwaved, bagged ones! Never again will I eat another salad there, I get better quality and prices from Sheetz. (The steak salad, on the other hand, which I had previous to this one for lunch at work, was not so bad. The lettuce & tomatoes were okay ... and I didn't hate the "grilled onions & peppers" so much, since they seemed at least a LITTLE appropriate with a steak salad. The meat was of decent quality and cooked as requested, too. So I hafta give them that, at least. My coworkers weren't so crazy with the concept, though, and therefore gave mixed reviews on their salads, as well.) BUT ... Bigdogz's sandwiches are fantastic, I must give credit where credit is due! Well-worth the price, we haven't had one we didn't like! (And we've tried quite a few, namely: the reuben, the "Johnstowner, " which my hubby gets almost every time, the club, crab cake & grilled chicken sandwiches, & all of their "hoagiez, " which we really enjoy.) And my four-year old loves the kids' meal mac 'n cheese wedges, $4 well-spent on an otherwise picky eater. We've only had ONE waitress / bartender that we didn't care for ... and Bigdogz is a fun place to meet friends for some cold beers and tasty appetizers. And my husband loves to go watch football there on Sunday afternoons. So I've gone before, and I'll go again. But I'll cross my fingers & hope for the best, because it can be hit-or-miss with the food. Personally - I think I'll stick with a sandwich. less
