Chicken-fried steak or chicken-fried chicken, take your pick. My uncle absolutely loves this place, has raved about it for years. I finally went there and it was OK, but not as great as he had led me to believe. There are certainly better home-cooking restaurants than this one. They sure serve a lot of people, so expect a wait....and in Roanoke, if the wait is too long, there aren't really any other places to go. less

This little restaurant in Roanoke is a wonderful place for home cooked southern cooking. The menu is limited to fried chicken and chicken fried steak. Serving dishes with all you can eat mashed potatoes, vegetables, and biscuits are placed in on the table "family style". Fresh honey is available for those hot biscuits. Homemade gravy is also available to soak the mashed potatoes in or just slop biscuits! The kids will love the rattlesnake cage.
Out of town friends and family have loved this little restaurant. Get there near opening time as it gets busy fast! There is a waiting line, but it moves fast. A great friendly and inexpensive restaurant. Not the place for those of you on strict cholesterol diets.
