This is a classic restaurant for those of us who have grown up in the Glen Burnie area. It's nothing fancy mind you, but just good hot dogs and subs as an alternate to the chain fast food restaurants. My parents used to go on dates at this restaurant in the 1960's, that's how long it has survived. It is so much of a landmark that they actually had to accomodate it when Marley Station was built, as the owners would not sell. <br> You walk in, and you can't be shy. The line actually becomes more of "groups" of people on the two sides of the restaurant. The ladies that work there will call for next and you have to speak up to make your order since like I said there isn't much order to the line. You have a choice between subs which are of the steak, hamburger, or cheeseburger variety, or you can order what Ann's is known for..... their footlong hot dogs. <br> This is a place that gets most of their business from repeat customers, so they know how to order their dogs. Everything includes mustard, onions, and chili. You can also get cheese if you wish. You will notice the ladies (it's always been this way since I went there, all female staff doing the cooking) don't write down your order but I have never had them fail to get it correct. The hot dogs are deep fried and very tasty. If you are very hungry you can order a double dog, which is their footlong sub with two footlong hot dogs. Some people I know order half a double dog instead of a full footlong so they get the same amount of meat, but not as much bread. <br> As far as sides, there's only one, french fries, but they are thick and tasty. Ann's also serves ice cream for dessert. They have true soft serve ice cream, not they custard or yogurt types many places have! They will dip your ice cream in jimmies or chocolate that hardens on the ice cream. If you don't want a cone, you can get it in a cup. They also have 5 flavors of shakes including vanilla, chocolate, banana, orange, and cherry. Finally if none of that interests you, you can get a Sundae. <br> Overall Ann's is a classic, as you will be able to tell from the large crowd's it has at all meal times. less

This is the quintessential hot dog stand, in business on Ritchie Hwy for 50 years (Marley Station Mall sits behind it). Ann's was featured in the paper a couple months ago, and I've been dying to try it. I was not disappointed. Customers stand three deep at the counter competing for the opportunity to order. The cashier writes nothing down, handles multiple orders simultaneously, and remembers everything correctly when it's time to pay. The dogs themselves are foot-longs, deep fried, then placed in a warmed potato roll. I had an Everything Dog, which includes mustard, onions and chili. Fantastic! Other condiments are available, but they are apparently not a subset of Everything. My mother-in-law, who doesn't care for hot dogs and who has stated that chili and hot dogs are independent meals and are not meant to be combined (!), tried a little chili on her dog. Then she came back for more! A huge hit all around, and a lot of food for two and a quarter.
One of the reasons we tried Ann's was having seen part of the PBS documentary on American hot dogs and hot dog stands. It's a great show highlighting independently owned hot dog places across the country which exemplify the local custom of hot dog preparation, or have some gimmick. I think Ann's could have been included on the show, except it's probably too small to permit a camera crew inside. Bon Apetit less
