Angelica's is a magical place that makes you feel like you are coming to a warm home filled with good food. From the moment you walk into this casual light oak decor restaurant, the aroma of food distinctly cooked with love engulfs you. Its causal but the clients range from nearby college students, locals, and professions in various stages of chic in a true New York sense. Angelica's, immaculate and inviting, with decent prices, is true to the East Village, a neighborhood that was once filled with people doing interesting things. And the people who come here are doing interesting things; everyone is pretty friendly, and if you want to find out for yourself sit at the community table. Angelica's is not about the decor or the attitude, its about the vibe and the food. The food is fantastic. It might seem a little scary to nonvegetarians, who are looking for something "normal, " steer them to the great mashed potatoes ($4, for a giant portion), norimaki (6 for 5.50-different versions each day), the great soups (2-3$), and the fab sea caesar salad ($6). For more seasoned vegans, the warm tempeh sandwich (more like an entree than sandwich, $7)with the awesome mushroom gravy, the pantry plate (where you choose from norimaki, tempeh, hummos, pate, salad, cornbread, etc with 3 for 5.50, 4 for 6.75), the dragonbowl (a macro-inspired bowl with tofu, beans, rice, steamed greens, vegetables-5$). The heatlh inspiring miso soup is one of the best I have tried and works well as a starter). The food is hearty and plenty and warm. If you have room, the desserts are amazing too, especially the coffee cakes and the shortcakes $4. The one drawback is the long wait on weeknights, but its definitely worth it. If you absolutely hate to wait, (on evenings the wait can be between 15-60 min), you can either come early before 6, or after 8:30, take out at their carry away place next door or have angelicas delivered to your house. less

A perfect restaurant for vegans, vegetarians and carnivores alike. Angelica Kitchen's chef seemless blends a dazzling array of different vegetables and ingredients into original and delectable dishes, creating a menu which combines traditional meals with creative new selections.
My personal suggestion is this. Every day, there are two daily specials for $12.50. For $14.50, you get the special entree, PLUS two sides, which vary from wild rices to succulent seaweeds to soups and salads. If you are two or more, order one of each special and the sides, and eat family style! You will NOT be dissappointed.
If you're not that hungry (the specials are VERY filling)then try the chili (delicious) which comes with a wonderfully complex cornbread. Or the Soups and Sandwiches, or the Dragonbowls... pretty much everything is delicious!
And do not let yourself leave without sampling the wonderful desserts!
The only drawback is that there is inevitably a 10-40 minute wait at peak dining hours. Get there early, or very late to catch a table without a wait. They also have a takeout counter, so if you don't feel like waiting, call in advance with your order to pick it up, or just order there and wait a few minutes for your order, then go eat it in a park or a nice alcove=)
