I'll make this real simple. This place serves the best hot and cold sandwiches that I have ever tasted. I have been going there for several years, and have invited a number of friends to join me. They share the same feelings as far as quality and quantity. I work in Palo Alto, but will make the trip for that special treat. I have offered to my friends that if they try it and don't love it, I will pay for the meal. Guess what...I've never had to pay out anything. I don't mind waiting in line for a short while, as this insures me that business is good. I want this place to be around forever. Bill, to you and your staff, keep up the great work! less

Best cheesesteak on the West Coast, period. Ken Gotti must have left his sandwiches in the rain because everytime I eat there, everything is full of flavor. There are other cheesesteak shops in town, but the food they produce (if you want to call it food) is disgusting. Not Amatos, I can eat there 6 days in a row easy. 32 different menu items, but I'm always going back for the Kory Special aka Cheesesteak plain with wiz, or the Chicken Cheesesteak. Mmm mm mm, I think I'm gonna go grab an order of cheese fries right now! less

As two innocent girls raised on California cuisine, we didn't know what hit us when we walked into Amato's. Thinking of other local delis, we ordered the 12" cheesesteak hoping it would be enough. Filled with steak, cheese, bell peppers, onions and mushrooms, it was so good I couldn't stop eating. After finishing my half of the sandwich I spent the rest of the evening sprawled on the couch. If you're not in the mood for beef, the chicken works is just as tasty and satifying, filled with sauted vegis and tender pieces of chicken. I now know to order a shorty and I try to keep myself from eating the whole thing. My favorite is the Italian Hoagie with EVERYTHING. It's a true hoagie loaded with quality meats and cheese, sweet onions, mild peperoncini, and special spices that add tons of flavor. The clientele at Amato's is a true reflection of Silicon Valley. At one table you'll find a retired couple sharing a shorty, and right next to them you'll see a group of executives with napkins tucked into their shirts trying to avoid an extra dry cleaning bill. You may see a family with three young children sharing a ham and cheese hoagie, and lined up at the counter are an assortment of "working" men who gather together on their lunch hour to talk with Bill, the owner, and the other friendly employees while waiting for their food. Bill has a knack for remembering his regular's names and always makes you feel welcome when you walk through the door--and he has A LOT of regulars! This restaurant is ideal for a young family to dine. The kids can pull up a stool to the front counter and watch Bill work his magic on the grill. The cheese fries are a meal by themselves, and the onion rings are the best in the valley, served with a side of ranch dressing. So if your looking for good food and a friendly neighborhood atmosphere, Amato's is the place. And Bill knows how to hire a cashier who's friendly and courteous, but with just enough attitude to keep up with him! :) less

Hey every one This is the owners son Bill from Amato's. I Pretty much handle the internet side of Amato's and I was looking at the reveiws and it looks like we must be doing something right! Since some of you are not sure about whats in our product i'll give yous guy a little summary. The Cheese Steak- Great Really I havent tasted better in Philly. Get the #4 Cheese Steak Sub/Hogie I eat that one almost every day. Our Beef is 100% usda choice Topround That we cut and trim so theres virtualy no fat at all.
The Chicken Cheese steak. Although I like them Id take the normal Cheese Steak I think is better but when i dont feel like steak I love the Chicken Cheese steak with Cheese wiz.
Shiped from philly its not as lean as our steak but for chicken its extremly lean. The Hogies The best cold lunch you can get. I brung some of the Hogies to school and ever person there bugged me until the whole thing was gone.
Specialty. The Italian Sausage is outstanding, The Meatballs are great (our own secret recipe) and the Pepper and egg is the best Breakfast i ever had.
The ingredients Cheese- We use White american, Provolone and Cheese wiz(thats a philly one)
Peppers- Whe have Hot and sweet cherry peppers, pepper chinies and freshly chopped cooked and simmered in seasoning.
Mushrooms- Personaly i have never tryed muchrooms on any of our sandwiches but i know they sell like crazy. one down side is they are canned not fresh.
Onions- Almost every day you can see someone in the back crying. We go thougthrough over 50lbs of oninons a bay. we chop them fresh and fry them on the grill.
Lunchmeats Our meats are always fresh. We would never server anything we wouldnt eat. We check our meats every day on every shift change.

They have great pizza steak sandwiches. The cheese steak is alright. I agree with Ken about the loss of flavor. If there was a little more flavor in the meat, I would go there EVERYDAY! Because the sandwiches and the fries are big!! I share a smal ... more
