I love this place, I had the Insalata di spinaci e cipolla rossa con pancetta which is a Salad of tender spinach and red onions with tepid pancetta dressing it was 8.00, For entree I had the Involtini di vitello alla "Zalaffi" Involtini of veal filled with prosciutto, rosemary and shaved Parmesan in a red wine-cream sauce $26.00. It was yummy! I found the staff to extermely attentive and friendly. This place is great for romance. It used to be an old church. less

On Saturday night, June 19, 1999 we came to Acquerello to celebrate my wife's birthday. Reading reviews and hearingothers comment made it a must for us. We were graciously welcomedby a young host and taken early to our table number 15. We reallydid like the table as we do prefer to sit next to each other. Thefirst waiter to greet us was very pleasant and explained theevenings special offerings. But he was not our regular waiter --obnoxious Masimo was. He was sullen, very unwelcoming and surly.As the evening wore on, his other fine traits of arrogance andcondescending remarks added more misery to the meal. Fortunatelythe busboys made sure the water was refilled but additional icedtea, bread and later coffee were never offered. My wife's appetizer of twisted pasta with eggplant in a tomato sauce was asoupy mess with only rare bits of eggplant. And when I asked fordecaf coffee due to heart problems with caffeine I was assured itwas decaf coffee but my heart rate later told me that Masimo failed again. Now, any restaurant can have a bad night and any waiter can havean off night too. But, this was disgraceful. My wife and I haveeaten in many restaurants all over the world and know when weshould expect better. This was a disaster. For the senior staff not to notice that there was trouble in their midst is unforgivable. It is their job to make things run smoothly and tobe fully aware of all operations. No, we are not regulars norare we from the Bay area but you can bet our word has impact. Thestaff at the Fairmont were surprised and felt badly for us when Itold them of our mishap. Perhaps, the next set of reviews willnot be so glowing unless there is a major attitude change atAcquerello. less

As an appetizer, the carpaccio with the balsamic syrup and capers is a delight to the taste buds!! I also highly recommend the pumpkin gnocchi. Guests are on the dressier side. The food is a standout with nice presentation. The flavors were stronger than I expected but blended well. They use elegant table settings and very fine crystal (my friend has a knack for distinguishing this somehow). Menu is on the meaty and seafood side: quail, salmon, beef, lamb, duck, etc. When you order an appetizer (say to share between 2 people), I like how they portion it out and serve it to you on separate plates. Ideal place for romantic dinner. Appetizers:$9-14 Entrees:$19-24 -Carpaccio with capers are garnished with amazing vinaigrette-marinated (?) roasted garlic -signature rigatoni with foie gras and truffles is very dense and strong in flavor -most entrees were delicious. less

I would say a reservation is a must, but I've gotten in without one before, although you could tell that they were displeased with the idea. The lack of a liquor license is something of a disappointment, but the wine list is excellent. The waiters are often pushy about what you should or shouldn't order ("Are you sure you don't want a salad? Some soup?"), but it's not overly oppressive. No valet parking, but there is a lot right across the street which usually seems to have space in it. Evidently the people going to the Hard Rock around the corner haven't discovered it yet. less
