The owner, Deb ... more It is deep regret that I must inform you that Deer Island Gate Restaurant served its last meal on January 27, 2002. This popular restaurant had excellent cuisine, a great view of Bantam Lake and a staff who were attentive and caring. The owner, Deborah Griffith, told me on our last visit on January 26 that it was time to open a new chapter in their lives. She and her husband, Chris, have operated this restaurant for many years and are looking forward to a lifesytle that is less demanding. The property has been sold and will not be operated as a restaurant. This is very unfortunate as they had a very loyal clientele over the years and will be definitely missed. less

Their portions are enormous and they offer daily specials such as twin lobsters for $12.95 and 32 oz. prime rib for $12.95. Unless you want to stand in line and wait it is advisable to get there early. less

We ate here a couple of days ago and found it to be very good. My husband had a country fried steak, I had the roast beef dinner and our daughter had the chicken pot pie. Included with all dinners are freshly-baked biscuits and cornbread and two vegetables. This is real "down home cooking"! Breakfast is served all day and is delicious. Every restaurant in this chain is decorated in a similiar manner. There are antique artifacts hanging on the walls...such as farm implements, old household items and pictures of things from days gone by. Really brings back a lot of memories. Sometimes you have to wait a little while for a table but it is o.k. as it gives you time to browse in their country store gift shop which always has some interesting items. less

Each restaurant has an abundant salad bar and this particular site has one of the largest. My husband usually has the porterhouse steak and I have the prime rib. They are always cooked to perfection. The only thing that I don't like about this restaurant is that you have to climb stairs and it isn't very handicapped accessible. less

We chose this restaurant because it was close to the motel we were staying at. Earlier in the day we had taken the ferry from Saint John, New Brunswick to Digby, Nova Scotia and I fell all the way down a flight of stairs while going down to get our car. We didn't want to venture too far for dinner because I wasn't moving too well. This proved to be an excellent choice! I had delicious Prince Edward Island mussels for an appetizer and succulent Digby scallops for an entree. The service was outstanding. The perfect ending to an otherwise terrible day! less

The restaurant is ... more On a recent trip to Saint John, NB we had the pleasure of dining one Saturday evening at The Church Street Steakhouse. It is located about a block from the Market Square area in the harbor area....a quick walk from our hotel. The restaurant is in an old building that has been very skillfully turned into a beautiful place to dine. We were seated on the second level but I think that there is a dining area on the ground floor. We both had delicious prime rib that was served ala carte and didn't include a salad but did include our choice of garlic mashed potatoes. The service was very attentive. less

They had a twin-lobster special that evening and all four of us enjoyed it. It is located in an old farmhouse with an attached barn. We were seated in the upper level of the "barn" and, with the exception of the lighting being very poor, it was very comfortable. The lobsters, priced at about $23.00, were very good. We were served bread that was baked in a clay flowerpot and was excellent! We decided to have the indian pudding for dessert. The two men had the regular-sized portion and the women had the mini dessert. Both were very good. less

We had dined there many years ago and found it to be very good. We decided to have the prime rib and it was an excellent choice. The meal included the salad bar which was abundant with fresh vegetables, salads and several kinds of bread. Our prime rib was served over very good mashed potatoes alongside tasty seasonal vegetables. The service was topnotch. We felt very welcome there from the moment we entered until we left. less
