This is the place for a splurge if you like real Italian cucina.
Many fine Italian wines, extensive dinner menu, and real Italian
espresso and cappuccino. The restaurant itself is a little small
and gets crowded after about 6.00 PM, so make reservations. It
opens at 4 for the early dining set, and it's not hard to a table
at that hour. We had a party of 6 arrive w/o reservations right
at 4 (more a very late lunch than dinner) and we got seated right
away. It started getting crowded as we were leaving. I'll
take my guests here again, not to mention my business friends
on expense accounts (only kidding!).

constantly dragged me here for lunch when I was down in TC, and
it was a free meal, so I couldn't complain. But now I say I'm
on a diet and let's go to Applebees or something. Auntie Pasta
has a lot of pasta dishes and some chicken and salad offerings,
but it's all kinda blah. And as that one lady said down below,
an Italian restaurant that serves Gordon Food Service coffee
just ain't trying hard enough. Glad I live in Petoskey where
I can visit Il Villa!

In good weather, sit outside on the deck and look at the boats and
Round Lake! Lots of tourists here, but some locals as well, usually
friends of the owner (Dave). Lots of to-go orders here, with the
Beaver Island Ferry passengers running in and out to get cookies
(THE BEST) and coffee before the 2 hour trip to the island. When
it's busy, it's an absolute circus, but in a good way.
People are running around, taking orders, taking money, serving,
cracking jokes. Like New York without the attitude. Great for
people-watching, but also good for the bistro/cafe foods. The
"eggplant wrap" is a huge portion and very filling.
Prices are really reasonable in this tourist mecca, and the cafe
stays open all year. Look for the guy who resembles a kinda chubby
version of George Carlin, and that's the owner. His waiters
are young college kids who are pretty good. Also check out the
hefty blonde lady who works as the "cashier/bouncer"
on some days. She can insult customers in several foreign languages
if they wish. I try to come here at least once or twice a week if I
can get parking!

(where I live), but I like this one better. The service is excellent

have a steak special, and I have never had a bad piece of meat here.
Since it's a bar, too, there are about 10 different types
of Margaritas! It's always pretty packed in here, no matter
when we come over, but we always get seated and served quickly.
A good place for a business lunch if time is limited.

During some long flight delay, I came here instead of eating inside
the TC airport. Didn't have a lot of time to spare, and I told
the waitress that. She made sure I was in and out in record time,
and I never felt rushed. The prime rib is just great, but a big portion,
so I couldn't finish it. They offered to pack it up for me,
too. Wish I didn't have to say no! Mable's is a very nice
family restaurant and I want to go back when I have some more time
to appreciate it.
