It is disappointing to see only one review of this wonderful local diner,
and that one written more than 9 years ago. To amend that, let me update
anyone who knows about this neighborhood landmark and, hopefully,
introduce many more to the place.
First, the Diner burned down about a year ago, was completely rebuilt
and opened in late November 2009. The changes were mainly cosmetic
improvements. The institution's old menu with its tested recipes,
and staff have returned almost entirely. Most surprising: the prices
have also remained unchanged.
In brief, the spot is a diner with the look, feel and service of traditional
roadside spots of its ilk. There is a small free parking lot and curbside
parking with meters until 7pm. Inside, it offers a counter with swivel
seats, a handful of tables and a line of booths.
The food is all freshly prepared with a variety or American entree standards,
very tasty Italian selections, a number of Greek choices and a wide
range of seafood, broiled meat, a delightful fried chicken serving,
pasta and sandwiches. Each day has a handful of specials featuring
meat and seafood (the stuffed lobster, when available, is dazzling
- don't let the "diner" designation dissuade you).
Most entrees include fresh soup or salad, a bread basket and 2 vegetables.
Prices are just above or just below $10 for most full meals.
Moreover, the owners pride themselves on a collection of bakery goods
along with their modest range of desserts.
The diner is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
