Bio

We look for the busiest local restaurants in new towns to find the best food. We prefer fine dining, but casual dining can be great, too! We like Thai over Chinese or Japanese, seafood, especially Chilean sea bass and scallops or lobster, a great steak or prime rib. French food is my favorite, while Mexican food is my husband's.

The specials for the day are always worth trying and are usually the best choices on the menu as they are prepared by or suggested by the owner and always delicious. They have steaks, veal, chicken, pork, and fish, as well as many pasta dishes, and you can build your own pasta from your choice of meats, vegetables, sauces and pasta. The service is usually very good, but it is slow for groups, as each dish is prepared from scratch. The ambience is beautiful with classic Italian decor. Be sure to order Spumoni ice cream or Cannoli for dessert. They also have an extensive wine list. less

It has been several other restaurants in the past at this location, but the most successful is Country Square. The portions for breakfast, lunch or dinner, are so huge that 3 people could split them, but the food is home-style cooking and really good. The omelettes must be made with 5 eggs -they are huge and my favorite! Salads, soups, and entrees, such as real turkey or pork roast are wonderful! It is like an oversized diner, very casual family restaurant with great food. less

They have live entertainment on the weekends and are open until 11 PM. During the week (no Sundays), they close at 8:00 PM. You can build your own sandwich on marble rye bread or have a spinach wrap. Vegetarians would also be happy here as would those seeking various gourmet coffees and frozen beverages. A local baker makes exotic cheesecakes and other fabulous desserts for them. They do not serve alcohol. They have a large room attached for parties or meetings and will cater events for the community. It is close to the Civic Center downtown. less

Another is Casa Lu Al on North West Street. Milano's makes authentic Italian dishes, including lasagna and other pastas, great steaks and walleye, prime rib, veal dishes, etc. Their Tuscan salad and homemade Tuscan dressing is famous. The owner, Frank Guagenti and his Uncle Joe are usually there to greet you. They also have an extensive Sunday brunch. They were located downtown Lima for many years until the building burned. less

But the food is exceptional -fresh, and delicious. My favorite is the pineapple cashew with chicken and shrimp added. It is totally different from Chinese food. One of the best restaurants for lunch or dinner and carry-out in Lima. less
