When we go on vacation, part of the attraction is food related. We also get the entertainmemnt books just to give us different ideas of where to eat. At home, cooking is never mundane, more of a gourmet stlye with the emphasis on making healthy dishes. We have 2 current limitations. I am a diabetic and my wife is on South Beach so we now look for low carbs and no sugar. Additionally, my daughter is a vegetarian, so add that to the list of things we look for.

Applebee's Rego Park, NY
Can be a 4 star if you don't order mixed drinks here. Over the past 2 years service has gotten much better and the food is always done right. There is now another one just 1/4 mile down the road in the Queens Center Mall, but that one is poor, wo ... more
Blue Bay Diner Oakland Gardens, NY
Another update of a restaurant that has improved somewhat. For some reason the Diner seemed to be in a slump for about 5 years or so, but this year everything has improved from the service to the food. A new cook perhaps? Try it, it's one of the ... more
The Gilded Otter New Paltz, NY
Okay, it has gotten better, a lot better. Maybe we had caught them on a bad day the first time since it was so uber busy. This time it was just very crowded. The menu was pretty much the same as the first time and the second time, but we were all hap ... more
College Diner New Paltz, NY
Time heals all wounds? This has become better than the plaza diner. If your in New Paltz and a diner is what you want go here. You won't be disappointed. Very Veggie friendly, but so is all of New Paltz.
Santa Fe Steakhouse Forest Hills, NY
Another update from me. Santa Fe is still good, but I won't say great anymore. Always a risk with chains. The food hasn't really changed, but somehow only the bread which is a combination of pumpernickle and white stands out. Everything else ... more
Niederstein's Restaurant Middle Village, NY
It's now an arby's! A Landmark for a century, and now it's an arby's. I love arby's, but not that much!
Pop Diner Elmhurst, NY
An update on this restaurant. It's getting better. The menu is much larger, the average price is really 10 to 20 dollars. The dinners are all ala carte with dessert and beverage always additional. You get soup or salad. The food though was good a ... more
T Bone Diner Forest Hills, NY
This diner has been featured at one point on unsolved mysteries. The food is good, the menu huge. Typical diner where they make you wonder how they do it. We had pork and lamb, and both were good.
The Olive Garden Westbury, NY
Another updated entry. The service has been vastly improved and the menu is diet friendly! The soup is an unending bowl as is the salad, but the food has been improved a lot. They had a wine tasting in the lobby and it helped us decide to choose a wi ... more
Rouge Forest Hills, NY
Ordinarily, I subtract a star if the restaurant is pricey, but the service at Rouge along with superior food gets the place their well earned 5 star rating. First, you have a choice of salads. (Everything is ala carte) The endive salad with a toasted ... more
