The menu was pretty much the same as the first time and the second time, but we were all happy this time as it all came to us as we wanted. Very much a cross between updated traditional and nouveau with decent portions. less

An update on this restaurant. It's getting better. The menu is much larger, the average price is really 10 to 20 dollars. The dinners are all ala carte with dessert and beverage always additional. You get soup or salad. The food though was good and the service very good. Friendly people, they are now on the right path. The menu is more exotic than the standard diner. There are several themes such as latin based food and asian food, so they are catering to the neighborhood. Prices have come down about 40% over our original visit. We'll try it again in a few months. less

Ordinarily, I subtract a star if the restaurant is pricey, but the service at Rouge along with superior food gets the place their well earned 5 star rating. First, you have a choice of salads. (Everything is ala carte) The endive salad with a toasted goat cheese disc on the center of the dish gives an extra boost of flavor and makes the dish special. Salads are priced from $6 and go to $11, so you may get the idea this wont be an inexpensive meal. There is the obligatory French Onion soup and a soup of the day ($7 and $6 respectively) as well as several warm appetizers. The main courses range between $16 and $26 dollars and they all seemed worth the cost, especially after having eaten them. A special of the day was Boulliabase which was priced at $24. There is salmon and "red fish", Lamb Chops that are prepared as two double rib pieces that are pushed down toward the end to resemble a drum stick. Filet Mignon is the most expensive dish at $26, Pork Loin, etc. In French cookery, sauces are important and must be expertly prepared. From the looks of what we saw and the tastes from what we had, everything here is prepared with a high level of expertise. The wine list is large, but not overly large and there is a $12 "flight" where you can sample either 4 reds or 4 whites. Dessert had everything you would expect from Creme Broullez to Mousse to a chocolate Torte to the traditional French Cheese ending. The cheeses I had were Goat cheese (excellent) Brie (I've never had a bad brie) but the winner was the camembert with a smooth delicate flavor. The only item that was not at the top of the list was the bread which was very ordinary and not what I would consider very French, although it was obviously French Bread. Lastly, expert service that will totally enhance you dining experience. The recommendation on the wine selection was excellent and not based on price. Extremely polite service and never having to look for your waiter help too. We learned that our waiter had a favorite dessert, the peaches and creme (simple explanation) did it for him. You can spend $100 a couple easy and you can get it to double that depending on how much you eat, but it will be worth every penney if you are looking for a gastronomic delight. less
