After 10 years of living in Manhattan, I have been spoiled by the easy access to great food. Now I'm trying to find a few gems in the suburbs, while still keeping up with the new Manhattan entries.

This is a true gem in NYC. Located on tiny Cornelia Street, which is also home to Po and Home, Le Gigot is a very small, very quaint French, wich serves some of the best food in town. Although there are only about 10 tables, and they are fairly close together, this is likely the only place where I don't mind. Service is excellent, food is fabulous and the decor is, as I mentioned, quaint. Try the roast lamb for a real treat. less

It's not outstanding in any category, but it is in every way, very nice. At lunchtime you will almost always find well-heeled upper east siders dining at sidewalk tables with italian loafers and poodles in fancy outfits. As for the food, the standouts are the homemade pastas, which are always fresh and flavorful. The wine list is nice as well as reasonable. If you're on a date, be sure to request an upstairs table, as that room is much more intimate and attractive. less

The atmosphere is great, with a nice bar and an extensive selection of wine, liquor and cordials. The food is mediocre, yet expensive - not a good combination. less

There are certain things I can overlook - the dirty glasses, the waiter spilling wine on the tablecloth (and not covering it or otherwise dealing with it), etc. But when you put average to good food together with premium pricing, it just doesn't work...for me at least. less

The wines are terrific, as is the service. Unfortunately, on my two visits I was dissapointed with the food. For me, the duck was overly fatty (even for duck) and a bit over-cooked. A fish selection on my next visit also fell short. The place is so nice, I want to believe that I was there on an off night - twice. less
