This little "hole-in-the-wall" dive is the essence of New Orleans.
Don't be fooled by the glitzy and glamorous high priced French
Quarter restaurant tourist-magnets. If you want to eat where
the natives eat, take yourself on over to Port of Call. But be warned,
if you aren't hungry enough to eat a small country, bring a friend
to help you finish your meal!

Ye Ole College Inn is another one of those local New Orleans restaurants
that is hidden away from the general tourist population and survives
on its native New Orleanian customer family. And I don't think
there could be a better recommendation for a local restaurant
than that. There is nothing special or exciting about the food
or the atmosphere; it is just a typical New Orleans neighborhood
hangout. The food is what people have come to love and expect from
any good New Orleans restaurant. This IS authentic New Orleans
cuisine.

After a long hard day in the French Quarter a simple, hearty and
relatively inexpensive meal would be nice. Well, here it is folks!
Prepare yourself for a New Orleans delicacy, the fabled Po-Boy.
This is a sandwich (unlike any you have had before) consisting
of the native New Orleans French bread stuffed with seafood or
meat and dressed to the nines. It must be sampled to believe. This
is a typical street corner café, relaxed and casual. Be warned
there will be a line out of the door at lunch and dinner times. If
possible, try to go for a late lunch or early dinner.

Yangtze Cafe is one of those unique restaurants that thrives due to word-of-mouth
recommendations. It is not known for its dine-in atmosphere because there
really isn't one. Yangtze Cafe is best known for its take-out. The food is
better than the typical chinese restaurants (most of which are buffet style)
around town. And if you're looking for Szechuan that is actually spicy, look
no further. You found it! However, if you're afraid of getting a good deal
for your money, stay away. The prices are cheap and the portions are huge!
The next time you and some friends or just you (if you want left-overs for a
few meals) want some great chinese take-out, drop in at Yangtze Cafe. You
can't go wrong.

life. I, like probably a large portion of LSU's student body, can't even count
the number of times I've frequented Chimes. But we all know that we'll be back.
The atmosphere is casual and relaxed without being loud or baudy and everything
on the menu is fantastic. One thing to look out for are the lunch specials,
which are not only delicious but also the best deal in town. However, when
you visit the Chimes, the first thing you must do is to ask your waiter/waitress
for the beer menu. The impressive list of domestic and international beers
carried by Chimes is unrivaled by any other bar or restaurant that I know of
in town. So don't be shy. Gather a group of friends, order some suds and have
a great time at Chimes!

Baton Rouge is known to possess a love affair for two things, good
food and LSU sports. T J Ribs combines both of these important
traditions into a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Most of the food
on the menu is very good, but if you're going to T J Ribs, you should
have the ribs. Their specialty, babyback ribs, are spectacular.
Most of their meals come with enough other side items (all of which
are excellent) that you won't leave hungry. And more than likely,
you won't leave empty-handed. Although the place is big, expect
to wait for a table on footbal game days. If you're in the mood for
good barbecue, check out T J Ribs. And if you're a sport's fan,
don't miss the Heisman trophy on display as you enter into the
restaurant.

Anyone who wants to sample the flavor of Louisiana's cajun heritage,
need look no further than Mulate's. The atmosphere is lively
and exciting, perhaps a bit loud for some who prefer a quieter
eating setting. Mulate's is well-known for its live cajun music
and large dance floor; a perfect way to exercise away some of that
big seafood dinner before you leave. Most of the food is about
average for a Louisiana seafood restaurant and the bar is small
but adequate. But the reason most people go to Mulate's is the
chance to step out of city-life and into the bayou. I definitely
recommend this place for anyone visiting from out of town and
desiring to have a good time cajun-style.

New Orleans is steeped in tradition when it comes to food and Commander's
Palace rightfully takes its place in the ranks. Commander's offers its patrons
the chance to journey back to a time of elegance and romance, too often lost
in the midst of fast-food and delivery pizza. Each dish is a culinary presentation
and a gustatory delight. I have not sampled one thing on the menu to which I
have not marveled. Of the many traditions New Orleans garners, none is as
sacred as Sunday Brunch. Commander's understands this philosophy and complies
with a jazz brunch that is better than any other brunch to which I have attended
in the city. This is an opportunity to see the true cultural side of "The Big
Easy." And if you're pouring over the menu, having a difficult time deciding
which delight to invite to your table, try the Mississippi Roasted Quail.
It is sensational.

OK don't expect to be greeted by waiters in tuxedos or roses on the tables,
it's a diner. But, what a diner! I have lived in Baton Rouge for 8 years and Louie's
was both the greatest (for the food) and the worst (for my waistline) discoveries
I ever made. Everything on the menu is great. Since breakfast is served around
the clock, you have no excuse not to try one of the omlets. Once you've had one,
there is no turning back! And if you don't try the hashbrowns you WILL hate
yourself in the morning. With Louie's very accomadating hours (open 24 hours),
it's a great place to stop in and have a bite to eat after the bars or whatever
you've been out doing has closed. The food may not be healthy, but you only
live once!!
