The wine list, while a bit limited for such a nice restaurant, was satisfactory. The deserts were wonderful especially "Chocolate IV" It is a chocaholic's dream. On the other hand, if you want large portions of good seafood and are oblivious to the surroundings, Sam's is pretty okay. The menu is printed daily, reinforcing the claim of FRESH SEAFOOD. The Shellfish Grille is quite good as are the specials at the very top of the menu. (Look hard they aren't highlighted very well. Don't expect much of a wine list, but what they have is okay. less

San Francicso realistic decor, not to little, not too much. The food....Ah...that's the secret. Hidden behind the brew pub front is an excellent selection of Spanish/Mediterranian entrees. The olive oil for dipping has been enhanced with roasted garlic. The entrees suprising...good that is. less

Not as big and flashy as Domaine Chandon, more genteel than Mustards, Bistro Don Giovani seems to hit the sweet spot for the times you want a great meal, a great wine list without excessive pretention. Reservations are a must. Even with reservations, be prepared to wait at the crowded bar. Nevertheless, it's worth the wait. The apetizers are varied and well prepared. the entrees are Continental with a California Eclectic twist or two. Deserts are very good but I've seldom have room left to try them. the wine list is extensive and a bit expensive. The ambience in the afternoon is diminished by the crowds in the evening but still seems to retain a romantic flair. less

The list of entr ... more As a relative newcomer to the Bay Area, I thought that the 5-Star *** Restaurants would only be found in San Francisco. I am very happy to report that I was very wrong. Emile's Swiss Affair is a cozy, yet comfortable restaurant. The list of entrees is excellent with enough variety to please most palates. The wine list is excellent with, considering the wines featured (Heintz Martha's Vineyard, Far Niente, Ridge Monte Bello...for example) quite reasonable prices. The service was excellent. Attentive but not obsequious. Emile made several visits to the dining room to chat with us and the other guests. Yes, we felt more like guests than patrons. The entrees were outstanding. Presented so well that it was a difficult to decide whether to just gaze at them or devour them. Even better, they tasted as good as they looked. At the waiter's suggestion we ordered the Grand Marnier Souffle. Somehow the process was slower than Emile expected and he came bearing gifts (hand made chocolates) to apoligize. We could have waited for hours and still have thought it worth the wait. THE SOUFFLES WERE EXTRAORDINRY! If you have nothing else, have the souffle! So, if you live closer to San Jose than San Francisco, try Emile's. You should be very pleasantly suprised. less
