| Mi Piaci | Dallas, TX | |
|
Impeccable Italian food with beautiful atmosphere provided by the view
overlooking a small well landscaped pond. Menu emphasizes northern
varieties focusing on cheese cream sauces as opposed to tomato
based. Expect a crowd an most nights.

| Mia's Tex-Mex Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Some of the best TexMex in Dallas. The usual fare: enchilladas, tacos,
fajitas, rellenos etc. All done to perfection. Famous for the Dallas
Morning News photo of new (at the time) Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry
Jones and his soon to be new head coach Jimmy Johnson enjoying a meal
and a couple of beers together with a autographed picture of Tom
Landry on the wall of their booth. Mia's is/was Tom Landry's favorite
restaurant and he was fired by Jones the day after the picture was
taken.

| L'Ancestral | Dallas, TX | |
|
A Dallas staple of French cuisine. Food & presentation excellent
although service sometimes shakey. Very cramped seating and noise
detracts from the experience.
|
||
| Mario's Chiquita | Plano, TX | |
|
A bit more upscale than most TexMex eaterys. Food is a bit more
upscale also. Standard fare, better prepared than average. If you're
in Plano, great. But not worth the drive from Dallas with so many good
choices there.

||
| Keller's | Dallas, TX | |
|
One of the last drive-in (curb service) restaurants in Dallas. Unique
burgers with everything except lettuce. No. 5 Special includes lettuce
and is a favorite of many. Tasty tater tots. When are all the other
burger joints going to learn what Keller's has known for a long
time-that poppy seed buns add real class to a hamburger.

||
| la Madeleine French Bakery & Cafe | Dallas, TX | |
|
No reason not to have fresh baked bread in your house if you live near
a La Madeleine. Several varieties of coffee offered sure to hit the
spot. Excellent Caesar salad and tomato basil soup to die for. Other
sandwiches, tarts, etc. all very good.
|
||
| Kuby's Sausage House | Dallas, TX | |
|
Actually a grocery, Kuby's is an outstanding place for German
dishes. One of the best meat markets in Dallas offering prime to the
public.
|
||
| Galveston Island Seafood | Dallas, TX | |
|
Nautical atmosphere somewhat reminiscent of seafood houses in the 50's
& 60's. Admirable standard seaffod selections, well prepared and
presented. Some dishes have a Cajun influence but Galveston Island
seems too smart to go head to head with Pappadeaux. Live entertainment
on weekends.
|
||
| Gershwin's Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Long time upper Greenville staple. Always crowded. Live piano. A very
upscale TGI Friday's/Bennigan's. Food always excellent with pasta
dishes a standout. One of the best bars in Dallas with supurb
selection of single malt scotch, brandy, cognac, and Ports.
|
||
| Gilbert's Deli & Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Gilbert's trys to be a Bagelstein's and misses. Matzo ball soup good,
unless you've tried Bagelstein's. Rueben special good, unless you've
tried Bagelstein's. Lox & bagel plate good, unless you've tried
Bagelstein's. Get the picture? At least Gilbert's is more centrally
located than Bagelstein's.

| Goff's Charcoal Hamburgers | Dallas, TX | |
|
Some may remember when it was nothing but a shack on Lover's. Then
Harvey opened the first 'designer' icecream shop in Dallas next
door. Then there were locations on Forest, in Garland, Carrollton, on
Central Expressway. Now there's just the original (location) and and
charges by D Magazine that Goff's is one of the dirtiest restaurants
in Dallas with some of the gruffest service. Most people don't
care. Goff's still grinds its own meat daily. Serves pattys thick
enough to sink your teeth into and is one of the last 'hamburger'
joints in Dallas to charcoal broil their burgs (see Del's Charcoal
Burger). Give me a hicory smoke sauce with onions & pickles & a
healthy dose of Tabasco. Salute a 10 foot bronze of Lenin as you enter
or exit. Harvey's (a radical right winger) tribute to the fall of
Communism.

||
| Graciela's Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Good run of the mill Tex Mex. Certainly no Herrera's but much better
than Pancho's buffet. Shhhhhh! Cantina Laredo less than a mile east on
Beltline.
|
||
| Grand Kempinski | Dallas, TX | |
|
(Rating applys to Sunday brunch only)
What has to be the most spectacular Sunday brunch in Dallas. More
manned food stations than a single person could possibly visit and
live: omlets, roast, prime rib, lamb, turkey, lobster Newburg, lox,
caviar (not the really good stuff) and all the sushi you can
eat. Flowing champagne.
|
||
| The Grape Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Long time lower Greenville stalwart. Intimate dark atmosphere the
closest your will get to an underground French bistro this side of the
Atlantic. Blackboard menu loaded with French country dishes. Don't
miss the mushroom soup.
|
||
| Griff's Hamburgers | Dallas, TX | |
|
Ordinarily I don't review chains and Griff's is a chain. They've been
around in this area longer than McDonald's and McDonald's has never
made a hamburger as good as you will get at Griff's. In fact, I have
long maintained that McDonald's has never made a hamburger to date, at
least what I call a hamburger.
|
||
| Guadalajara Restrnt | Dallas, TX | |
|
Standard above average Tex Mex fare with all the combinations of
chalupas, enchiladas, tacos, flautas, tostados etc. What makes it
unique is that they stay open all hours of the night serving Tex
Mex. If you're crazy enough or work so late that you're ready for
dinner at 3:00AM, this is your place. (Don't get shot or mugged on the
way out to your car).
|
||
| Hana Japanese Reataurant & Bar | Dallas, TX | |
|
Still one of the best sushi experiences in Dallas. Geisha house
atmoshpere. Live piano some nights. Supurb food and service.
|
||
| Hardeman's Bar-B-Q | Dallas, TX | |
|
Excellent Q. Some of the leanest brisket (although still moist) in
Dallas. Sandwiches served on white bread instead of bun. Sauce of the
thin vinegary variety as opposed to the thick tomato kind in north
Dallas.
|
||
| Henderson Chicken Shack | Dallas, TX | |
|
In business for years, along with Hall's, Williams, & Babe's one of
the last fried chicken joints with memories of Youngblood's. Eat your
heart out Popeye & Colonel!
|
||
| Henry Chen Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Very elegant and reasonably priced, Henry Chen's gives you the same
very good standard variety Chinese food in an upscale atmosphere with
out an upscale price. Gorgeous black marble entry. Try the twice
cooked beef.
