Good quality Thai & Chinese food at fair prices. Rincome is not spectacular, but it is newly remodeled, clean, and has good food.
Lunch Specials run from $4.25 to $5.95. All lunches are served with choice of soup or salad. 27 different lunch specials. Phad Thai & Egg Roll lunch special is $4.50. Chicken or Beef Satay Lunch special is $5.25. Pad Thai & Thai BBQ Chicken Lunch Special is $5.25. All of these are good dishes. Portions are average in size.
Dinner entrees run from $4.50 to $11.95, with an average price of about $5.00. Good vegetarian dishes on the menu, for those who eat ?Vegan?. Good shrimp dishes as well.
This is a good restaurant located in small refurbished strip mall behind a Denny?s on Deveonshire Street, just due west of Balboa Blvd. Affordable.

TOPZ 9301 Tampa Avenue Northridge, CA 91325 818-772-4510
Part of the Northridge Fashion Center Mall - located at Tampa Ave and Plummer Street - 1 block north of Tampe & Nordhoff Streets.
Topz is attached to the OUTSIDE of the Mall, located on the North side, near the Pacific Theaters which are part of the Northridge Mall.
A growing chain advertising ?healthier? fast food. Burgers, fries, etc. with substantially less fat and cholesterol than traditional competitors? food. Fat content is labelled on the menus.
Burgers from $4.15 to $4.30. Turkey Burgers and Garden Burgers on the menu, as well as a chicken breast, spicy chicken breast and Ahi Fillet sandwiches, coming in at $4.60 to $5.20. Gourmet salads on the menu from $4.95 to $6.10.
Burgers can be ordered with Extra patties for $0.65 to $1.50, depending upon what you are ordering. The bun is large and ?fluffy? enough to support multiple patties. You can literally build your own sandwich this way.
Good quality at the price you would expect to pay at a FatBurger or other similar ?high-end? burger establishment.

Cupid?s Hot Dogs 9840-D Topanga Canyon Blvd Chatsworth, CA 818-700-1729
Mon-Sat 10:30 AM - 7 PM Sun 11:00 AM - 4 PM
Located in a small strip mall on the Southeast corner of Topanga Canyon at Lassen Avenue. Strip mall also contains a DEL TACO and a the Road to China Chinese Restaurant.
Cupid?s is something of a Los Angeles tradition. They have been in existence since 1946. I have been going here, myself, for over 30 years. You won?t find most of them in the yellow pages, as these are hot dog stands, not restaurants. Those that have seating have very limited indoor/outdoor seating. This is an old fashioned hot dog stand that still knows how to stick with it?s core business and products.
Cupids is a small, slowly expanding chain of hot dog stand franchises. Other locations for Cupid?s are on Ventura Blvd in Encino, on Victory Blvd in Van Nuys, on Vanowen near the Canoga Bowling Alley and near Cal State Northridge on Louise and Nordhoff.
Most of the Cupid?s franchises only sell hot dogs, chips and drinks. The Chatsworth location and the Encino locations are unusual in that they offer Chili Fries, Tamales and other items.
Hot Dogs are extremely good, and extremely affordable at $1.95 each. All prices have tax included, making it easy to know what you are going to pay. They come in a properly steamed Four-S Bakery hot dog bun. The hot dog uses a natural casing frankfurter which is steamed, not fried, and made by various meat packers to Cupid?s specifications. ?Everything? is a hot dog with Chili, mustard, onions - however these hot dogs are made to order for you - and you can get the hot dog any way you want it. Cheese, Catsup available upon request. Sauerkraut available in Chatsworth location.
Service is excellent, and the staff is courteous and polite, and they do everything possible to get your food to you quickly.
This is a very, very good place to go for quick and affordable hot dogs - especially when you have been inundated with visiting neighborhood kids, nieces and nephews. It?s quick, good and it won?t break your budget. You literally can spend less here than you would at McDonalds, and still feed and satisfy a bunch of hungry kids and adults.
Highly Recommended.

Mandarin Deli Restaurant 9305 Reseda Blvd Northridge, CA 91324 818-993-0122
Part of a small chain of upscale Chinese restaurants which serve good food at good prices. Other locations:
727 N. Broadway #109 - Los Angeles 90012 213-623-6054 701 W. Garvey Ave - Monterey Park, CA 91754 626-570-9795 356 East 2nd Street - Los Angeles, CA 90013 213-617-0231
Excellent selection of Noodle and Soup Chinese dishes, which run from $4.95 to $6.95. Portions are generous and make an excellent and overall healthy meal in themselves. My personal favorite is the Vegetable and Meat Wonton Noodle Soup, which costs $4.95
Other entrees and dishes run from $2.95 to $10.95, with an average price around $6.95.
Thin Scallion Pancake appetizer is excellent, and costs $2.95 Cold Shredded Tofu Salad is excellent, and costs $2.95
Potstickers (dumplings) are available in meat or vegetable, and can be boiled, steamed or fried. 8, good sized potstickers come per order, costing $4.95. All of them are excellent.
Standard Chinese dishes, such as Mu Shu ($6.95), Orange Chicken ($7.95), Mandarin Style Boneless Chicken ($7.95), etc. are also excellent and have generous portions.
Highly Recommended!

Marie Callender?s Restaurant and Bakery 19310 Business Center Drive Northridge, CA 91324 818-993-0704 818-993-8663 Fax
Another example of a chain of ?Pie Shop? restaurants. Marie Callender?s has been emulated by Baker?s Square, Four N? 20, and many others. Marie?s still remains as slightly more upscale than its competitors (which are almost more like coffee shops) - although Marie?s popularity has waned.
Sandwiches here, will cost you about $7.99. The French Dip sandwich is fair. Hot Turkey Sandwich is better for the same price. Soup and Salad bar can be added for $1.99 Marie?s signature burger is their Frisco Burger, which runs about $7.99 Garden Burgers are available for the Vegan conscious, and cost you $6.99
Pasta dishes are mediocre, but the Baked Lasagna is not bad at $9.99.
Other entrees vary from $8.99 to $12.99. The menu changes periodically. Slices of pie range from $2.99 to $3.99, with a slice of cheesecake running $4.99. Entire pies are also available to order for parties, holidays, etc. and can be picked up at the hostess desk.

Enterprise Fish Company Santa Barbara, CA
Really excellent Seafood restaurant off the 101 Freeway in Santa Barbara. It's a little bit of a hassle getting off the 101 Freeway and getting to this restaurant, which is located on the ocean side of the 101 on State Street - but the hassle is definitely worth it.
Parking is good. Service is excellent. Separate Bar, Separate Oyster Bar/Sushi bar as well.
Lobster, crab and steak dishes are excellent, and market priced.
Sushi quality if good to very good by my rather picky standards.
This place is an excellent place for power business lunches, and dinners with someone special. It has a casual but classy sports bar type appearance. A tad noisy at times, but fun and definitely a good place to take someone special.
High recommendation!
Ruby's Diner Woodland Hills, CA
Interesting 1950s type hamburger diner located inside the Promenade Mall on Topanga Canyon and Oxnard. This is a place akin to the Johnny Rockets chain of burger restaurants.
Like Johnny Rockets, Ruby's is a small chain of similar franchise burger joints.
Burgers, shakes fries are all good. This is a good, fun place to go after doing conferences in the Marriott or Hilton, after a movie or after shopping in the mall.
Pizza Cookery Woodland Hills, CA
Small chain of old time pizza establishments with various locations in the San Fernando Valley and elsewhere.
Other location is in Granada Hills on Devonshire at Balboa.
Sawdust floors and an old time pizza parlor feel out of the 1970s. The pizza is surprisingly decent and affordably priced. Good, but not terrific or memorable.
Thin and thick dough pizzas available to order.
7" individual pizzas run from $3.50 for basic cheese pizza to $5.75 for four toppings. 11" small pizza runs from $7.45 to 12.45 14" medium pizza runs from $9.95 to $14.95 16" large runs from $11.95 to $1845.
Calzones are good. A calzone with one filling is $7.99 two fillings for $8.99
Pasta dishes from $5.95 to $6.50 a la carte, with a $9.95 pasta dinner combination with salad.
Spaghetti, mostaccioli, angel hair, shells linguini - your choice of meat sauce, marinara, alfredo sauce or garlic, oil and tomato.
Other standard specialties like tortellini, lasagna, chicken parmesan, etc. run from $7.25 to $10.95.
Good variety of salads avaialble. vegetarian pizza and pasta dishes available.
Hot and Cold sub sandwiches running from $5.40 to $10.50 - two sizes (small and large).
This is an interesting place of good value, but it is nothing terrific.
Dinapoli Cafe Minneapolis, MN
Cafe Di Napoli is more of a landmark than a restaurant.
This place really HAS been around forever. My father used to frequent this establishment during World War II!
From the looks of it, the place has not changed the sawdust on the floors since World War One. Yes, it is run down, but the area around 9th and Hennepin is an old part of Minneapolis, and almost everything is in need of major reconstruction down there, anyway.
The food is average. Service is spotty - fluctuating between excellent and mediocre. This is not a terrific place to eat, but you have to travel a bit to find anything better.
Quark's Bar and Grill Las Vegas, NV
Cute small bar and grill located in the Star Trek Experience portion of the Hilton Hotel next to the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Small separate bar area and other tables. Not extensive, but also not too noisy - one thing that I really appreciate after a long day in a convention, etc. This is a fun place. The surrounding decor of other shops, etc looks like the Promenade on Deep Space Nine, and shops have Star Trek Memorabilia, etc.
Everything in it has a theme around Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Coffee, for example, is a Klingon Raktagino.
Food is surprisingly very good. Service is always excellent. I didn't see Chase Masterson the Dabo Girl walking around, but there are casino employees who walk around dressed as Ferenghi, Klingons and Federation personnel.
Quark's is fun, and despite the Ferenghi reputation, it is definitely not a ripoff.

Panda Machi Alpine, CA
Panda Machi Chinese & Japanese Cuisine 1730 Alpine Blvd - Suite 101 Alpine, CA 91901 619-445-6224
In the Country Side Shopping Center off the Interstate. 12 tables, with a small, separate sushi bar are that seats another 8-10 people.
This is a Chinese & Japanese Fast Food place. Everything on the menu is under $8.95, with the majority of items coming in at or under $6.25. Quite affordable.
Luncheon Plate Specials are all under $4.75, and run the gammot from the House Special Chicken to a Japanese Luncheon Benot Box with California Roll, Tenpura and Salad.
This place is at best, a small step up from a Yoshinoya Beef Bowl type place, or a Panda Express Chinese fast food place.
Food is hot and satisfying, but it is nothing particularly good or special.
Golden Hunan Chinese Rstrnt Northridge, CA
Golden Hunan Chinese Restaurant 10334 Reseda Blvd Northridge, CA 91324 818-363-5511 818-363-2052 fax
Very good Chinese restaurant packed away in an old strip mall between a McDonalds, a Shakey?s Pizza and a liquor store - Northeast corner of Reseda Blvd & Devonshire Street.
The strip mall may be old, but the restaurant has a fresh modern Neo-Chinese d├ęcor to it.
Parking is usually a problem, as the restaurant is sizeable, but it shares its parking with other stores in the strip mall.
This place is affordable, and service, food, portions, and selection are all good.
Lunch Specials are served from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM, and come with choice of Hot & Sour Soup or Egg Flower Soup, plus fried rice or steamed rice. Pretty standard for the area. Lunch specials cost from $5.25 to $6.95, with well over half of the lunch specials offered coming in at the lower price of $5.25.
Dinner entrees cost from $5.55 to $18.95, with an average price around $7.95. Well over half the items on the menu are at or under $8.00. All the standard Chinese fare is here, plus a few interesting additions:
There is a considerable amount of variety and choice on the menu, and all Hot and Spicy dishes can be ordered and altered to suit the taste of the customer.
Golden Hunan has a selection labelled HEALTH FOOD. These are all STEAMED dishes - NO OIL, NO M.S.G, cooked in a choice of a Szechuan Spicy Sauce, Garlic Brown Sauce or Light White Sauce. The 1`5 items under this category include vegetable, chicken and shrimp dishes made to these specifications. They are affordable at $6, .95 to $12.25
House specialties include a Chen Tu Steak - cooked in a tangerine and Szechuan spicy sauce, coming in at $10.95. Golden Hunan also is unusual in that it has LAMB dishes on the menu. Mongolian Lamb, Hunan Lamb and Lamb prepared in Two Styles are listed on the menu. They come in at $9.25 to $9.75.
Chicken and Shrimp with Cashews is recommended. It comes in at $12.25.
Golden Hunan also Caters, and has party trays and party menus for 8 to 100 people.
Good Earth Restaurant Northridge, CA
This is another example of a once popular but now declining chain of "healthier than fast food" places. Slightly upscale - between a coffee shop and a Marie Callender's in decor.
The Northride location is across Nordhoff from the Northridge Fashion Center Mall, about 1.5 blocks due west of Tampa Avenue.
It is tucked away amongst furniture and carpet sotres, and can easily be missed. Same shopping complex as Tango D'Amore.
Service is generally very good at this place. Portions are good, and prices are average.
A good and pleasant place. I wouldn't necessarily call food here "healthy" as much as it is "organic" and "natural". Sandwiches may come on 7-grain and whole grain breads, but there is a fair slug of none-too-healthy cheese, mayonnaise, etc. on them.
Overall, the food is good, and the dining experience is very pleasant.

Korner Deli & Restaurant Los Angeles, CA
Small storefront Mom & Pop type Deli with a coffee shop decor, right off the LAX runways on Sepulveda Blvd near Lincoln.
This place often opens early (6:30 AM) to a good sized number of patrons - generally taxi and limo drivers starting out a long day.
A few tables and booths with a separate breakfast bar area.
Food is surprisingly good, and it serves out excellent and affordable breakfasts and lunches. It's about the best breakfast place in the immediate area.
Prices are good. Portions are good. Service is generally excellent. They offer standard omelettes, which also can be ordered as egg white only omelettes, for those watching cholesterol.
Combination plates are excellent. Corned Beef omelettes, corned beef has and eggs, and lunchtime corned beef and pastrami sandwiches are all excellent.
Recommended
Mihrans Middle Eastern Restaurant Tarzana, CA
Good quality and slightly unusual middle eastern food. Armenian and Lebanese with some Persian dishes.
Lunch specials typically cost around $7.00 to $8.00.
Everything on the dinner menu is under $16.50. Good value here.
Kabobs are a forte here. They run from $9.00 to $12.00 and are served with something akin to a converted rice pilaf and salad. A large pita accompanies the kabob as opposed to lavash bread.
My chicken kabob contained six large pieces of boneless white chicken meat on a bed of converted rice. slightly lemoned - no saffron.
Unusual items on the menu include frog legs fried and marinated in garlic, cilantro and lemon juice coming in at $16.50.
Quali is here at $14.00 and includes 3 BBQ quail.
Like everything in Capri Plaza, this restaurant shares parking with the other shops in the plaza, making parking very difficult. There are way too many stalls marked "30 Minute Time Limit". I have not run into any problems as long as I was patronizing a merchant in the center.
This restaurant received a good review by the LA Times on November 6, 1997, February 5, 1998 and March 15, 1998 with rave reviews for their kabobs and quail.
Service is often slow, especially at lunch time, but the food is good.

Spaghettini Rotisserie & Grill Seal Beach, CA
Interesting new italian bistro type restaurant reminiscent of HOUSTONS (although Houstons is hardly italian) and MACARONI GRILL, located right off the Northbound 405 Freeway offramp for Seal Beach.
Separate bar area. Good pasta dishes with an interesting new cuisine presentation, but they are really nothing special in the sense of taste.
If you like restuarants like Houstons, Macaroni Grill, or PF Changs, you will probably like Spagettini's new wave italian cuisine.
This is a pleasant place which is not too noisy. A nice and upscale place for power lunches and business power dinners - or a good place to kick back and relax after work. The food is nothing spectacular, but service is good and prompt.

Koi Restaurant Seal Beach, CA
Pricey but very, very good quality Japanese food and sushi located on Pacific Coast Highway in Seal Beach.
This restaurant can stand up favorably with the best Japanese restaurants in Southern California or Northern California. Sushi is authentic, with more attention and care done towards the preparation of sushi rice than is normal for a restaurant.
Seating is limited. Small sushi bar with limited seating at the bar, but more table seating. Parking is sahred with other stores in the small business complex - it can be a little hard to find occasionally.
Service is excellent overall. I prefer this place over Sushi on Naples Restaurant in the Long Beach - Naples - Belmont Shores area. This is the best Japanese restaurant in the area.
High recommendation!
Mandarin Deli Northridge, CA

George Petrelli's Steak House Culver City, CA
Really good old fashioned steak house off Sepulveda Blvd near the Fox Hills Mall in Culver City.
Typical clientele consists of older patrons (the retired crowd in the 50s).
Steak and prime rib and steak & lobster (surf and turf) combinations are the forte here. Properly done, and indeed, as good as any that I have had at any famous steak house. Service can be a bit slow, but this is a place for people to take someone for a nice, quiet and relaxed dinner.
You can dress casual to go here and not feel out of place. It is also a good place for power business dinners when you are doing business with the studios in the area, etc.
A tad pricey, but the quality is generally excellent to outstanding and portions are very good sized.
Recommended.
Joe's Crab Shack Las Vegas, NV
If there's such a thing as a "beer and seafood" place, this basically is it.
Casual and very good quality seafood place set well away from the Strip in the southeastern section of the town. Service and staff are very good. Shrimp, lobster and crab dishes are all very good. Steak dishes are good but not great. They could use a little improvement.
This is a good, jeans-type causal noisy but fun place to have some seafood when you are visiting Las Vegas.
Recommended.
Sierra's Mexican Restaurant Canoga Park, CA
Good quality Sonoran Mexican Cuisine restaurant located on Vanowen and Canoga Avenue across from Boeing Rocketdyne Division.
All the standard Mexican fare you expect.
Sierra's is a chain of restaurants with other locales, plus a more fast food type sister chain (Mission Burrito) with locations in West Hills, Van Nuys and elsewhere.
Lunch entrees, combinations and specials are under $10.95, with a typical price of $6.95 for a combination lunch plate with two to three items, beans and rice.
Salsa and chips are nothing special - but they're hot and free with the meal. Occasionally, they have a bit too much residual shortening residue, but nothing out of the ordinary.
My lunchtime Taco and Tamale combination was $6.95 and was served hot and promptly. Burrito lunches and dinners are also quite good.
Dinners are also typically under $10.95. Portions are good and service is by and large prompt and attentive.
Lunch time Steak and Crab enchilada plate is $10.50. $9.95 as a dinner entree.
Sierra's has an excellent bar, and is a good casual but nice place to take someone for power lunches or quiet dinners.
Heritage House Littleriver, CA
Classy and casual place to eat set inside a resort hotel atop an ocean bluff. The old movie "Same Time, Next Year" was filmed at this location, along with several other older movies.
The restaurant can be described as "New England Coast Type Upscale But Casual", even though it is located well north of San Francisco.
Nearly everything from cheese burgers to fish entrees is served with a nice presentation and a wolfgang puck type of style - only the portions are more generous here, and the food is much more interesting.
The cheese burgers, for example, were on a bakery type bun, large light and fluffy - substantial. Nicely garnished.
Good restaurant. Recommended.
Nippon Toluca Lake, CA
Good quality, small Japanese restaurant and sushi bar on Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake.
This restaurant basically does everything reasonably well. Food is good and service is very good to excellent. Parking can be a little bit of a problem, and it is always rather limited in this area and there are a number of restaurants nearby, but you can generally park a short block away or so down Riverside Drive.
Aside from sushi, standard Japanese Bento box combinations with teriyaki and tempura are reasonably well done and affordable. This is a good quiet and casual place to take someone.
