| Castaway | San Mateo, CA | |
|
Excellent service, excellent environment reminiscent of
an island shipwreck (hence the name: Castaway) Food has
always been exquisitely prepared and wonderfully
presented. Good for any formal occasion, and they are
very attentive to families (with small children) Sunday
bruches are good, but the best time to go is weekend
nights where they have the two fires lit, and you can
watch the city come alive across the bay.

| Florentine Restaurant | Mountain View, CA | |
|
This has always been a favorite of my family's. They have a take out
special just the right size for a family meal, and it's reasonably
priced, too! You simply MUST try the bread, it's out of this
world. The eating environment is cozy, and the service is a little
slow, but friendly. Great for dates, birthdays parties, or any other
semi-formal eating occasion. I think this restaurant should be a
required visit for all visitors to Mtn View

| TCBY | Mountain View, CA | |

They make a pretty mean smoothie. Always a good place to visit after
eating on Castro. It's located near City Hall, in a quiet little food
court at the base of a professional center. Good Yogurt

| Printers Inc. Bookstore/Cafe | Mountain View, CA | |
|
This place is under new management. The old manager made the place a
somewhat of a downer, but the new guy is well-liked. Serve pretty good
coffees, as well as teas, soft drinks and (some) juice. They are open
for lunch with calzones, sandwiches, and soups. This is a HOT place on
weekend mornings, and on Friday/Saturday nights. The bookstore
downstairs is one of the few community bookstores left, and the
overall atmosphere is a family one. The Cafe is upstairs, not very
visible from the street, but very comfortable. This is a favorite spot
for the locals to come down and relax (As much as you can relax
drinking coffee, hehe).

| Jumpin Java Coffee House | Mountain View, CA | |
|
The way a coffee house should be! With local bands performing most
weekend nights, and an open air patio area this is truly a delightful
expereince. I work right accross the street and will often come over
with my co-workers to relax during breaks. Warning: all the coffee
houses on Castro attract the local youth, including Jumpin Java,
these youths can sometimes act a bit wild, but it all adds to the
enviroinment
