My husband and I were pleasantly surprised that the food was actually
good here. A rare expectation in Silicon Valley. The ambiance
was nice, too. Husband ordered the pesto pizza which was delicious.
I ordered the veal which was flavorful. Dessert menu was quite
expensive - but worth it. Good Los Gatos dining spot.

| 42 Degrees | San Francisco, CA | |
|
I greatly enjoyed the ambiance of the warehouse-feel of the restaurant.
Soft lighting, open loft ceilings, and spacious table layouts
made the dining experience very pleasant. However, I would rate
the food a little better than average. Good food, but not great.
My husband ordered "the greens" (appetizer) which was quite
fantastic. I had the crab cakes which was decent. My main entree
was the ox tail which I found delightfully tasty. Dessert was
the chocolate pot de creme which was the highlight of the meal
itself. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a group
of friends or maybe an after-work gathering.

| Foreign Cinema | San Francisco, CA | |
|
The restaurant is "slightly" above average, but not that much.
The decor is nice, spacious and simple - high vaulted wooden ceilings
and soft lighting. For appetizers, I ordered the oysters and
crab cakes. The oysters tasted fresh, but the "kumanato" Japanese
dipping sauce was bland. The crab cakes were average. I ordered
the grilled duck breast for the main entree and it was tasty and
unique with sweet mushrooms and dates. For dessert, the orange
flan was excellent. The seating here is not ideal for a "romantic"
setting. The service is mediocre. Dinner was $80 without wine.
I would spend it elsewhere. (But an interesting dining experience
nevertheless with the outdoors film concept.)

| Hawthorne Lane | San Francisco, CA | |
|
We went to Hawthorne Lane for New Year's Eve dinner. The food,
service, and atmosphere were divine! A true grand dining experience.
This is definitely one of the top 5 restaurants in San Francisco.
For appetizers, we had fresh oysters which were out-of-this-world!
For the main entree, I ordered the pork chops and my husband ordered
the beef tenderloins (they ran out of the prime rib). The pork
was tasty and moist - not overcooked. For dessert, the banana
sundae is worth every bite! We were very content after our meal
- we are looking forward to our next adventure there!

| Madonna Inn | San Luis Obispo, CA | |
|
OK, OK . . . I was "refered" to this awful restaurant by 3 co-workers
and the San Luis Obispo Tourist Information. The decor was indeed
over the top and downright gaudy! The menu claims that their steaks
are "world's best". So, my husband ordered the filet mignon which
was considered their most popular and I ordered the New York steak.
After an hour, our entrees came out. I requested medium rare,
but I received a well-done. My husband's filet was dry (presumably
sitting under a heat lamp). It was so awful, we skipped dessert
and the infamous bathroom. So, to sum this up in a nutshell . . .
food, service, and price were all disappointing. This is the
last time I will take "referrals" from co-workers who, obviously,
lack legitimate food buds and class.

| Pacific's Edge | Carmel, CA | |
|
I took my family here for Sunday brunch. We had great window seats
with spectacular ocean views. The food is fresh, well-presented,
and good. The service is impeccable and the decor quite awesome.
However, be sure to brace yourself when you receive the check
. . . $170 for 5-persons brunch - which ultimately is $200 with
a $30 tip (unless you are a cheap skate). You need to have brunch
here at least once. Highly recommended.

| Moss Beach Distillery | Moss Beach, CA | |
|
I actually give this restaurant a 2 and half star rating. The ambience
was quirky. The stained windows had naked western harlots staring
at me while I was munching on the bread. The clam chowder was decent
and I actually liked the steamed clams as a main entree. However,
the staff seemed unprofessional (too young or too haggard) and
unattentive. The furniture was very 1970's. Dinner for 2 including
wine was $100. We went downstairs to the patio area to watch the
sunset which was pleasant. I would probably return here for cocktails.
I can get a better meal for $100 somewhere else. Trust me, this
place is way over-hyped.

| Sono Japanese Restaurant | Mountain View, CA | |
|
My boss and I went here for lunch last week. What a bore (the food,
not the boss)! I would rate this place one star and a half - borderline
awful and average. The teriyaki chicken was bland and tasted
gross. The chicken was not thoroughly marinaded. As for the sushi
boats, the choices were limited and unappealing. I was not impressed
and was glad to leave.

| Kobe Restaurant | Santa Clara, CA | |
|
I took my best friend and husband here for dinner. I ordered the
"sushi deluxe" on the menu. The sushi did not taste fresh and the
rice portion crumbled. We were being entertained by the next-door
banquet facility with their horrible karaoke singing. I will
not return here again.

| Sushi Zono | Campbell, CA | |
|
This is my second best choice for good sushi in the San Jose area.
I love their spicy spider rolls and sashimi. Their soups are also
delicious. Sushi Zono is a great place for dinner.

| Wilson's Jewel Bakery | Santa Clara, CA | |
|
What is so great about this place? Because of its landmark? The
birthday and wedding cakes look cheesy and cheap - something
you can buy at Costco or Safeway. La Patisserie in Cupertino will
blow this bakery out of the water.

| Fringale Restaurant | San Francisco, CA | |
|
Wow, the prices were extremely reasonable for the quality! Both
of us came out of there, licking our chops and only $65 poorer (without
wine). The pork tenderloin dish was simply divine! My husband
ordered the steak - the promme frites (a.k.a. french fries) were
the best I have ever had. Their drinks, however, at are quite strange
. . . my lemonade tasted like pure lemons without sugar. Too sour
for my personal taste. My husband's martini was way too strong.
The desserts, on the other hand, were out of this world. I liked
the creme brulee, but the warm chocolate garmoud was something
else! We will definitely come back here again - very right for
the price. The place is cute, but very crowded. Reservations
highly recommended.

| Tra Vigne | Saint Helena, CA | |
|
Okay, with all the hype, Michael's book and show, we were very
excited to finally book lunch reservations here. However, after
our meals, we were quite disappointed. Their salads were overly
oily. My husband had a melon soup which was light and refreshing.
For our main entree, I ordered the whole fish, requesting "filet".
The fish was good, but not great. Chris ordered pizza, but instead
they gave him a plate of calamari. We just shook our heads and decided
to stick with the calamari instead of causing a scene. We did not
order wine nor dessert and the final bill was around $60. Overall,
the place was decent for lunch - but where was Michael Chiarello
when you need him most?

| Fiesta Del Mar Too | Mountain View, CA | |

Margartitas were excellent. Food was authentic and tasty. Very
stuffy and loud during weekend nights. We waited for an hour without
reservations.

| Kimo's Restaurant | Lahaina, HI | |
|
This is a GREAT place for lunch! I had a great ono sandwich with
their waffle fries. Of course, the HULA PIE is the best thing there!
We only spent $30 for 2 - not bad for Maui.
|
||
| Paradise Bar & Grill | Hanalei, HI | |
|
I believed this is where my husband and I stopped by for lunch.
I had the luau pig meat sandwich. It was fantastic! The fries were
also great! Right across the street, the snowcones are the best!
Try them all!

| Mama's Fish House | Paia, HI | |
|
We had a table where we watched the sunset. It was beautiful. Remember
to take a picture on the canoe out front. There is valet parking,
so don't worry. The fresh fish was unbeatable - the staff was very
friendly and prompt. This is probably the best restaurant on
Maui (we haven't been to Roy's) and the most expensive, too.

| Thai Pepper | Santa Clara, CA | |
|
I have to say that this is the best Thai restaurant in the San Jose/Santa
Clara area. However, it can be a hit-or-miss for dinner. I strongly
recommend going here for lunch because the service tends to be
a wee-bit better. At one dinner seating, we were waiting 25 minutes
for an entree and another 10 minutes for our drinks. That can definitely
be a turn-off - even if the food tastes great. Try the imperial
rolls, yellow curry, and kom kha soup (prawns). You have to have
them VERY SPICY for the ultimate "Thai Pepper" experience!

||
| Globe | San Francisco, CA | |
|
I had the best homemade spaghetti ever here. Wine selections
are limited - no pinot noir! As for the desserts, we ordered the
brownie with ice cream - quite divine, but not the best. A very
good restaurant, but I have had better.

||
| Alan Wong's Restaurant | Honolulu, HI | |
|
I went here with my best friend last summer. It was superb. I had
the ahi tuna - fresh and thick. Great pina coladas and the infamous
Lava Flows! The dessert menu was great - friendly service and
awesome food!
