| Jim's Restaurant | San Antonio, TX | |
|
I do not know why, but I really like Jim's (but do not order any steak
dishes...they should have been marinated at least a year before preparing
and serving.)
They have the best pancakes I have ever had...better than IHOP, better
than Perkins, better than mine.
Jim's is an old-fashion diner type atmosphere where you can relax,
have a good conversation with the person across from you, and enjoy
very good food (in most cases)and with excellent service and very good
prices.

| My Sam Chinese Buffet | San Antonio, TX | |
|
I have been to chinese buffets all over the USA, Canada, and Europe.
This one is not only the best in San Antonio, it is THE BEST! ...period!!!
My Sam's has the best selection, the best VARIETY of selections,
the best QUALITY selection, and the best TASTE selection of any Chinese
buffet I have ever visited. You could eat there every day in a week and
not have the same thing or the same taste of food twice.
It would take too long even to describe what my favorites are at My Sam's...so
just go and revel...and the price is only one dollar more than the mediocre
stuff you get elsewhere.
RECOMMENDED! RECOMMENDED! RECOMMENDED!

| Zio's Italian Kitchen | San Antonio, TX | |
|
Having come from an area with excellent (inexpensive and expensive)
Italian restaurants back East, Zio's instutional food is no more
than mediocre, ... if that! Walmart's Sam's Choice's
and Stouffer's frozen Italian entrees are better; and Prego's
off-the-shelf sauce is far superior. Perhaps they should add a little
apple sauce and parmesan to their sauce...the secret to good Italian
sauce.
In San Antonio, I have not yet found an Italian restaurant that is excellent
in all areas of dining; and Zio's excells in none of those areas.
Place it at the bottom of your list for good Italian food.
Unfortunately, most San Antonians do not know the difference.
However, the service is good, and the food response is good.
Also, the restaurant is extremely noisy due to no sound-proofing materials.
I suspect all so-called "family restaurants" are like
that.

| Outback Steakhouse | San Antonio, TX | |
|
For the money, Outback cannot be beat in San Antonio for a good USDA choice
piece of meat, well prepared, at a reasonable price. Their "Bloom'n
Onion" is superb, and their steamed vegtables are unsurpassed.
The chicken dishes are unique and very tasty.
The service is par excellence.
However, there are no reservations; and the noise level in the restaurant
can be irritating for anyone wanting to converse.

| Oma's Haus Restaurant | New Braunfels, TX | |
|
German Food???? The only thing German was the menu descriptions, not
the food...and it was way over-priced for what you got.
The only reason I gave it a one star was because the atmosphere is quite
rustic and quite nice....otherwise a zero. This is a restaurant where
you are better off bringing your own food.

| China Harbor | San Antonio, TX | |
|
China Harbor is just another of the hundreds of Chinese buffets dotting
the barren landscape of San Antonio. It is a fair buffet in both selection
and quality...nothing whatsoever to write home about. There are many
other superb Chinese buffets in San Antonio that out-class this one,
and at the same price.
It is unfortunate that many in the secluded society of San Antonio do
not know what quality really is.

| Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant | Las Vegas, NV | |
|
This is one of the best-kept secrets in Las Vegas. If you want excellent
service, excellent real Chinese food, pleasant quiet atmosphere
to sip wine and converse with your date, and prices that you might
be embarassed to to pay for what you get, you've got to go to this
place. I am from New York, and Hong Kong rivals anything we've
got back there at one half the price. Their food out-classes just
about everything you've got out here that one misrepresents
as Chinese food. They serve a combination soup that is a meal for
two that knocks the socks off anything I've ever had anywhere...even
at 5 star Chinese restaurants. Their mongolian beef is lushous
and spiced any way you want it. Their almond chicken is absolutely
the best....just about everything is outstanding. Oh, yes,
the egg rolls and spring rolls are superb. Be prepared to take
half your meal home.
(Why not 5 stars...That's reserved for the Queeen's Grill on
the QE-2 or the Rainbow Room in NYC...you know...black tie and
$125 an entree.)

| Celebrity Deli & Restaurant | Las Vegas, NV | |
|
Sandwiches are very good with lots of meat on various kinds of
rye; but as Kassie B says above, their potato knishes leave a lot
to be desired. If you yearn for a good hot corned beef on rye Kosher
style, they've got a good one; but Samuels or the Carnigie is better.
However, if you compare them to the other so-called delli attrocities in Las Vegas, they are very, very good. |
