| Skates On The Bay | Berkeley, CA | |

If the view is all you really want, skip the pricey lunches/dinners
in the dining area and sit at the bar area instead and have the bar
menu with drinks. Oddly enough, the bar menu is not available
at lunch when they open up the bar area for regular diners and you
have to be seated by the hostess. Best to go at dinner, grab any
open table by the window and have drinks and the bar menu.

| Bison Brewing | Berkeley, CA | |

The beer is the only thing to get here. The food (especially the
calzone) was awful! Stay away from that Thai chicken calzone.

| Caribbean Spice | Berkeley, CA | |
|
We tried going here once for dinner. There was one large
party sitting at one table. The one waiter could not handle
it and we never got served and ended up walking out. There are
far too many better places to eat in Berkeley than to waste
your time trying this one.

| Everett & Jones Barbeque | Berkeley, CA | |
|
I thought this place was a bit pricey for this type of BBQ.
However, if you are in need of a BBQ fix and you just can't do
it yourself, come here. If you in the neighborhood, you won't
be able to resist the smell of the grilled meats anyways. There
are only two tables if I recallso it's definitely a takeout joint.

| Happy Donuts | Berkeley, CA | |
|
They make a yummy cream-filled donut. Come here for donuts,
weak coffee and Lotto. There's plenty of off-street parking
and loads of newspaper racks outside. What more can you ask
for in a donut joint?

| Jupiter | Berkeley, CA | |
|
Is this the Jupiter's on Shattuck? If so, this place has a great
selection of beer on tap but the beer isn't as cold as I would
like. I know, I know...it's served like in England. Well, we
aren't in England and we like our beer cold! The pizzas go great
with the beer. Parking here is a pain - Shattuck
Ave. You can also take the Downtown Berkeley BART station, come
up to Shattuck and be right across the street from the Jupiter.

| Ole's Waffle Shop | Alameda, CA | |
|
The coffee is truly awful here but the waffles are good but
don't expect the big fluffy Belgian waffles. They are kinda flat
but tasty. Breakfast is the big draw here but I like the dinner
just as much. Sit at the counter and watch the wait staff and
cooks hustle.

| East Ocean Seafood Restaurant | Alameda, CA | |
|
A good rule of thumb is to pop into a Chinese restaurant and
look in to see if any Chinese are dining in there. If there are
lots, then it's a great place for Chinese. If not, run!
This is the best authentic Chinese restaurant in Alameda.

| India Palace | Alameda, CA | |
|
The lunch buffet is a great deal with lots of items to choose
from. Everything is flavorful and the service is good. A great
place to go when you want Indian food and lots of it.
|
||
| River City Brewing | Sacramento, CA | |
|
The beer is the main draw here for me. I had a bad experience
with the wait staff once and never went back for lunch or dinner.
Since then, I just head to the bar for the beer. I can't wait
for Pyramid Brewery to make it's way to Old Sac. Their beer is
far better than River City brewery.

| Bombay Cuisine | Berkeley, CA | |
|
We go here all the time for lunch. The food is spicier than
some of the other Indian restaurants (which I like!) and portions
are generous. The lunch specials give you a good sampling of
several items. And you can pop in next door to the Indian
grocery store for supplies and sweets.

| Fatapple's | Berkeley, CA | |
|
What's the big deal about the burgers? They are only average
as I've certainly had better burgers elsewhere. The desserts
are just only average. I tried twice and ordered the special the
second time instead of a burger (bake mac & cheese of all things!)
and that was fairly decent.

| Jupiter | Berkeley, CA | |
|
I guess we all know this place is great for the variety of beers
on tap. I wish the beer was colder as I am not a fan of British-
style, room-temp beer. But I think I'll survive. They also have
a nice area in their courtyard for dining alfresco.

| O Chame | Berkeley, CA | |
|
Do yourself a favor and go to a real Japanese restaurant for
udon or soba. You can feed two for the price of one bowl at
O'Chame and the food will be better. But the yups love it
because it's so "exotic." However, this is a great place for
those who want tea with his/her meal. You can choose from a
wide variety.

| Pyramid Brewery & Alehouse | Berkeley, CA | |
|
Go here for beer only. The food isn't the worse I've had. The
pizza is the safe bet.

| Shattuck Avenue Spats | Berkeley, CA | |
|
This is a funky place to go and have cocktails. There aren't
very many places that produce a drink menu. The drinks are a bit
pricey and you do get to sit on some beat-up looking chairs
and sofas but what the heck, all hail to the almighty cocktail!
As for food, I've enjoyed their early bird dinners including
a pretty decent seafood lasagna.

||
| Skates On The Bay | Berkeley, CA | |
|
I usually forego the dining room and grab a first-come/first-serve
space in the bar with a view. The crab and artichoke dip is
divine! There is a wide range of appetizers and courses to share
with your cocktail and view.

| Linguini's | Alameda, CA | |
|
A very busy and popular restaurant. Portons are huge! No one makes
it out without a takeout bag. We had lasagna and chicken marsala.
Both dishes were well prepared and delicious although a bit
pricey (over $15 for lasagna in a somewhat casual joint).
But considering you'll enough for two meals by ordering one
plate, it's a deal.

||
| Old Spaghetti Factory | Sacramento, CA | |
|
This Spaghetti Factory is typical of the chain. You can depend
on good food for reasonable prices. If you have never been to
a Spaghetti Factory - your entree comes with salad, a loaf of
bread, drink (coffee, tea or milk only if I remember correctly)
and ice cream (spumoni or vanilla) for about $6.00 to $9.00).
A great deal but on busy nights, you'll have to wait and wait
and wait. Best to go weeknights before 5:30 and forget Fri.
or Sat. nights entirely.

||
| Hamburger Mary's | Sacramento, CA | |
|
A great place for beer and appetizers or beer and burgers. Why
beer? They have the coldest beer on tap in all of Sacto. Forget
the British beer-served-at-room temperature stuff. I like
my
beer cold. Faves are the Gordon Biersch Marzen and Newcastle
Brown Ale. The staff is friendly. Go a couple of times and
you'll feel just like a regular. TIP: Grab the Sacto weekly
newspaper "News & Review." There is always a two-for-one coupon
for any entree during the hours of 4:00 to 7:00.
