| Rainforest Cafe | Vancouver, BC | |
|
My daughter and I visited Niagara Falls July 19-26 and had a blast. For
her 21st Birthday we had dinner at the Rainforest Cafe and it was great.
It's not cheap- $15 for a veggie burger and $16 for a plate of vegetarian
spaghetti w/tomatoes and assorted veggies mixed in. What this place
does offer is FUN. There are animatronic elephants, tigers and Apes
that "come to life" every so often during the meal. There
are also "Thunderstorms" that popup inside every so often
accompanied by Mist and Lightning and fading lights! A very fun place
but remember it is on the expensive side- not to forget Canada's
21% tax on most everything! 5 stars just the same!

| International House of Pancakes | Hoffman Estates, IL | |
|
Let me start off by saying that when vacationing at Niagara Falls in
Ontario- the food can get distressingly expensive. We stayed at the
Hilton Fallsview last Summer, and when we went out for breakfast the
day after we arrived- we noticed the sign for IHOP at the Fallsview Plaza
Hotel next door on the second floor. We happily walked upstairs and
were seated. When I opened the menu my teeth nearly fell out when I saw
the prices. We only stayed because we were starved and did not know the
area yet. I had a vegetarian omlet and a glass of water and my daughter
had a similar omlet with a small glass of juice. The food was good- but
the final price of $55.00 was Highway Robbery!! I had to give a 15% tip
and the bill came to $63.75. Needless to say we will never go back there.
I feel it's an total insult to all vacationers to have to deal with
prices like that. IHOP in Massachusetts for the same meal would be about
$20.00 tops including tip

| Johnny Rocket's At Fallsview Casino | Niagara Falls, ON | |
|
Johnny Rockets is located in the bottom level of the Fallsview Casino
Mall. Excellent Fries and Shakes and tasty veggie burgers. Kind of
on the expensive side- a Shake was $5.99 for a medium and the Fries were
$4.00 for a small

| Zappi's Pizza | Niagara Falls, ON | |
|
Daughter and I tried Zappi's and never will return. The good was
we had a $10 coupon for a large 2 topping pizza. bad- terrible service
and subpar food. Pizza was less than average. Waitress service us then did not return
for 50 minutes. We had somewhere to go and were very distressed at the
bad service. had to finally CALL her to give the check.

| Antica Pizza | Niagara Falls, ON | |
|
My daughter and I finally took our much anticipated trip to Niagara
Falls, Ontario this July. We had a great time. The Fallsview Casino,
Horse-Shoe Falls, Journey Behind the Falls, Niagara Fury, Table Rock,
Imax, White Water Walk were all fantastic. Food at the Falls is Problematic-
food prices here are extremely high and it's hard to find great
food. Enter Antica Pizza!! yea!!! NT Style (Thin crust) Pizza baked
in a wood fired/brick oven that rivals any Pizza I have had in New York.
Excellent!! We had Pizza twice there- once with Fresh Tomatoes and
Shrooms and the other time with Mushroom and Peppers. The Pizza was
excellent- crisp, tasty, fresh veggies added a great taste and the
sauce was very very tasty. Service was great too. A 10 minute walk from
the Hilton Fallsview. Highly Recommended- get there around 5 to avoid
long waits

| Crazy Dough Pizza | Cambridge, MA | |
|
My daughter visits from college on the weekends and she asked to go to
Cambridge's Harvard Square area. We'd been there before
Christmas and had fun so we decided to go again...and again we ate at
Crazy Dough Pizza. It's inside of a building that houses a Ben and
Jerrys, a tatoo parlor, a Hemp Place, Newbury Comics and a few ethnic
restaurants. Once again the food was great. They know how to do Pizza.
We each had a personal pizza. Mine was onion, pepper, and shrooms and
my daughter had Tomato and cheese. Excellent!! Very busy- took a few
to get a table but worth the wait. They do Pizza thin crust, fresh veggies
and tasty sauce and cheese. Check it out

| Palmieri's New York Style Pizza | Putnam, CT | |
|
Palmieri's Pizza opened a few months ago and I hadn't been
there yet..so last Friday I figured I'd give it a try. We don't
have any Pizza places in Putnam that I would consider "Above Average"-
and the sign does say "New York Style Pizza"- so I admittedly
was excited to try it. When I walked in at 3pm on a Saturday in early February
2009- I first noticed that the floors were very dirty and had not been
swept. Lots of dirty tables with plates that had not been cleared either.
I walked up to the counter and there was an attractive Glass enclosed
area that had large thin crust Pizza's being heated and you could
buy by the slice. The Pizza did appear to be good. The clerk handed me
a small slice of cheese pizza and it was pretty good. I ordered a Vegetarian-
which would have Broccoli, Peppers, Mushrooms and Onions. I had to
wait about 20 minutes. I observed the Pizza being brought out of the
wood fired oven and slid into a large Pizza box. My 14" Pizza came
out to $16.00- much to my chagrin. I thought that was a very steep price
given the newness of the place, the state of the economy, and for pizza
in general. I brought the pie to my car and took it for the 5 minute drive
home. Upon opening the pizza box- the pizza had been folded over - about
25% of it had been flopped over and I know it didn't happen when I
took it to my car because I held it flat and it was layed down on a flat part
of my SUV's floor. The crust was very very dry and very very untasty.
Same for the cheese, sauce and toppings. No flavor whatsoever- the
broccoli made the whole pizza soggy- and in general the Pizza was very
poor tasting. Given the Price I had high expectations which were summarily
shot down on the first bite. Won't even give them a second chance.
Way too expensive and no flavor at all. Putnam Pizza is far better.

| Wholly Cannoli | Worcester, MA | |
|
Sorry to the reviewers below (And I'm not going to argue this as
it's subjective at best) The Cream in the Cakes I bought was crap-
period. My brother is a Pastry Chef and graduated from Culinary Institute
of America and has cooked for the Shrivers and Kennedy's as well
as some very wealthy people in Boston and we both tried the cake and the
cream was not "Italian Pastry Cream" as "Brenda"
attempted to describe. I know what Italian Pastry Cream is- just go
to Mike's Pastry in Boston if you want to know what good Pastry Cream
is. My brother told me that the cream they used in their cake was a combination
of Pastry Cream and Crisco- and it was disgusting- period. I will give
the bakery kudos for great Cannoli- but the Italian Cream cake and Rum
cake was very very poor. The area of Worcester this bakery is located
in is Rice Square off Grafton- and as a former Worcesterite I can say
that this is a scuzzy area- go there yourself and judge for yourself.
My brother's merits stand for themselves- and he is a 5 star gourmet
chef who has cooked for world class people and restaurants. I'm
not trying to hurt the Bakery- but at best it gets a 3 from me. You want
High Grade good quality stuff get the Cannoli. You want the same in Cake
go to the North End of Boston to Mike's or go to Williams Sonoma online
or Rubicon Bakery.

| Mike's Pastry | Boston, MA | |
|
Mike's has the BEST Cannoli anywhere! Whether you get it with chocolate
chips, pistachios, Choicolate Cream, Yellow Pastry Cream, or Ricotta
filling it's all good! Oh- I just am hankering for a Cannoli from
Mike's just thinking about it! I love their Rum Baba Cakes too-
and for a super dooper treat get the Ricotta Cheese Cake...man oh man!
All I need is a Pizza, Cup of Joe and some Mike's desserts and the
Sox and I'm set! Mike also sells great coffee, Italian Lobster
Tails (Cream filled horn), Biscottil, Cannoli Kits online to order-
(These are fun with your kids- you get the shells, pastry cream, and
pistachios and chocolate chips. It all comes in a box with a cold bag
so it survives the trip- and you simply cut open a pastry bag in one corner
and fill the cannoli shell with the cream and decorate with chips or
nuts. Very Yummo! The Italian cookies are very good too! I gotta get
to Boston again soon and get some of these desserts! Don't expect
to stay thin eating this though!!!

| Santarpio's Pizza | East Boston, MA | |
|
I'm a native Bostonian- actually from Winthrop but that's
the same! Santarpio's Pizza is what your mouth waters for when
you want great, tasty pizza. When my brother was recently visiting
from Maryland- we had to hit our old stomping grounds and have a pie from
the best of Boston. This place is still like it was when I was a kid- old
but with that "Red Sox" "Celtics" "Bruins"
and "Patriots" atmosphere! Ah....those were the days...
But- time has passed- mom and dad are both gone and my brother and I are
old now- but the nostalgia from days gone by are ignited when we visit
Boston and Santarpios. GREAT Pizza- chewy, bursting with tomato taste
and great toppings! My fav- Olives, Onions, Peppers...yummo! You
can also get Barbecued Sausage or lamb too and there is wine on the premises.
For an Old Boston Pizza treat you gotta eat at Santarpios.

Oops! Forgot to add the stars!!

| Bertucci's | Framingham, MA | |
|
My daughter asked me to review Bertucci's Pizza in Framingham.
She stopped there after taking a tour of Suffolk University in Boston.
She said the Pizza was really good, and tasty- but she said the waitstaff
was unfriendly and that one of the orders was wrong too. Overall a good
place for a Pizza and she recommended it over regular pizza parlors
in the area. Good veggie pizza!

| Rustica | Woodstock, CT | |
|
Rustica has been in business for about 3 years now. They serve the best
Mexican/American food in the area. You can get good tacos, burritos,
chalupas, and other typical Mex food. The prices are reasonable and
the food is well spiced (Just ask for mild if you do not want it spicy.)
My one and only gripe (Which is why they only got 3 stars) is lack-luster
and uncaring waitresses. This has happened each time I have been there
and I don't really know what the problem is. I know that being a waitress
is not an easy job and they rely on tips to make a decent wage- but the bottom
line is- a tip must be earned! A good place though- but be prepared for
slow service as I've also experienced this a few times and have
heard this from friends who also eat there.

| Thai Place | Putnam, CT | |
|
Thai Place has been in business for about a year now, and I've dined
there several times and now am finally reviewing them. The owner's
name is Pon- and I've known him for several years as he also has a
restaurant in Sturbridge Ma and used to have one in Webster MA- which
is where I first met him. He is very friendly and accomodating, and the
Thai food is first rate. Being vegetarian- I love the vegetarian Pad
Thai, as well as the Thai Vegetable Rolls, Sweet and Sour Tofu, Basil
Tofu, and Ginger Tofu meals. The Thai Tea is excellent- be sure to order
some. There is also Beef, Chicken, and Seafood Thai meals for the meat
eating crowd. We're fortunate in Putnam to have such diverse ethnic
food, and Thai Place is #1 in town for that.

| Jessica Tuesdays | Putnam, CT | |
|
Jessica Tuesdays is on 35 Main Street in Putnam- Just to the Right of
Someplace Special. They have excellent soup and sandwiches. Their
home made mac n cheese is a real comfort food, and the soups are really
tasty. My daughter said that the Blondie Brownies were super. It's
great to be able to have good food here in the small town of Putnam. Highly
recommended.

| Cafe This Way | Bar Harbor, ME | |
|
I tried breakfast at Cafe This Way on one of the last days I stayed in Bar
Harbor was summer of 2007. A friend had told me the food there was excellent
so I decided to try it with my daughter. We went to the Cafe on a cool misty
morning- the Cafe is set off the road so you have to keep a sharp lookout.
It is mainly breakfast- but they do server some sandwiches too. The
atmosphere was kind of dark- not well lit which made it kind of odd. We
were greeted by a kind and smiling waitress- my daughter had chocolate
chip pancakes and I had OJ, Bagel with Cream Cheese, and Blueberry Pancakes.
I wasn't impressed a bit. I wanted to like the place- but the food
was just average. Pancakes were rubbery and not to my liking, and the
bagels were ok. My daughter did not even finish hers. A nice place- but
strictly average.

| Rosalie's | Bar Harbor, ME | |
|
While vacationing in Bar Harbor in July of 2007 with my daughter we tried
Rosalie's one rainy night. The restaurant was Packed! My daughter
stayed at the Hotel while I ventured out into a night of downpouring
rain, thunder, and lightning. I noticed Rosalie's brightly lit
window sign "PIZZA" and it smelled like heaven from a few
blocks away. I'd read reviews about it so decided this was dinner
for tonight. I ordered a Large Vegetarian Pizza and a serving of Spaghetti
for my daughter. YUMM!! The Pizza was excellent- lots of FRESH mushrooms,
green peppers, tomatoes, and onions. There were also olives! The pizza was done perfectly and was not "drowned" in cheese
which is what I prefer. My daughter said her spaghetti was good and the
sauce was very tasty. We decided to eat there a few days later and were
not disappointed. The restaurant has pictures all over the walls of
famous celebrities and even has an old fashioned juke box. We had Large
Veggie Pizza again and this time it was even better right out of the Stone
Brick Oven. As good as Pizza gets to me!!
