| Betelnut Pejiu Wu | San Francisco, CA | |
|
This restaurant is lovely inside and packed with people. It's
a bit loud, but it just adds to the festive atmosphere. The scallion
pancakes and string beans are especially good. I also enjoyed
the crab spring rolls. The lemongrass chicken entree was decent,
as was the fire noodle entree.

| Ana Mandara | San Francisco, CA | |
|
I haven't been to a restaurant this good in a long time. I was thoroughly
impressed with my experience at Ana Mandara and highly recommend
this restaurant to anyone in the San Francisco area. The decor
was incredibly beautiful and lush, and the atmosphere was warm
and inviting. Every single course ordered was fantastic. My
party enjoyed the dungaress crab appetizer--fresh and very
well seasoned. The quail and basa entrees were delicious and
filling. The desserts, bananas flambe with phyllo and poached
pears with cinnamon were amazing as well.

| Tra Vigne | Saint Helena, CA | |
|
Tra Vigne is beautiful inside, with high ceilings and a pleasant
atmosphere. One can dine outside as well, in a lovely garden type
setting. Although I enjoyed the meal, I felt that the two entrees
that I sampled were extremely oversalted. The rabbit dish was
delicious, but overladen with sodium. The was beef short ribs
were incredible in that the meat was very tender and juicy. However,
again, the natural flavor of the meat was overpowered by the taste
of salt. The appetizer of fresh mozerella crostini was good,
as was the panna cotta brulee dessert.

| Fifth Floor | San Francisco, CA | |
|
When you step into the dining room at Fifth Floor, you notice its
elegance and its sophisticated decor. The service is wonderful
and the staff is both helpful and unobtrusive. The Duet of Crab
first course is excellent. The tempura softshell crab is crisp
and comes with a creamy pistachio sauce. The other crab is clean
and fresh--very pleasing to the palate. Unfortunately, the
Kobe Beef Tartare was bland and the foie gras was overcooked and
veiny. My party enjoyed both the ostrich and roasted poussin
entrees very much, although the chanterelles that came with
the poussin were gritty. The best part of the meal was the dessert.
The fresh, made to order ice creams were delicious. I recommend
the strawberry/butter pecan ice creams that come with a strawberry
shortcake and a pecan tart.
Although the food at Fifth Floor was very good, it left me dissatisfied. After reading so many raving reviews of the place, I expected more and came away very unimpressed. I don't believe the food or experience is worth the price at all. For the money, I would rather go to an exquisite restaurant like Ana Mandara twice instead. |

| Chinois On Main | Santa Monica, CA | |
|
I was disappointed with my experience at Chinois. My salad and
duck entree were rather plain, and I was unimpressed with the
decor.

||
| Border Grill | Santa Monica, CA | |
|
I liked the atmosphere and the decor of this restaurant--loud
and fun. The margaritas were pretty good, as were the complimentary
chips and salsa. The chicken dishes I've tried were juicy and
flavorful.

| Red Onion Restaurant | Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA | |
|
This restaurant has a quiet, low-key atmosphere. The fajitas
are pretty good and the combo platters are fairly large.
|
||
| The Appetizer | Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA | |
|
I liked the coziness of this restaurant. It's right by the library,
which makes it an ideal place for students to take a break. The
pastrami sandwiches are pretty good.

| California Chicken Cafe | Santa Monica, CA | |
|
The food here is fresh and the chicken is tender and juicy. This
is one of my favorite places to go for this type of meal. The sides,
like the mashed potatoes, are good.

||
| Baja Bud's | Santa Monica, CA | |
|
I liked the beef burritos here--they were fresh and filling.
The meat was actual steak, rather than processed-meat that other
places have sometimes.
|
||
| Wolfgang Puck Express | Santa Monica, CA | |
|
The food here was overpriced and is generally overrated. I had
a pasta dish that came with focaccia and wasn't too impressed
with either.

||
| Kings Hawaiian | Torrance, CA | |
|
The food is cheap and tasty here! There is lots of variety on the
menu and the decor is very homey, yet eclectic. There's even an
aquarium in the middle of the restaurant. The bakery goods are
especially yummy.

||
| Olive Garden | Torrance, CA | |
|
I never understand why people love this place so much. It's standard
Italian fare--nothing I have tried has ever stood out to me. I
do like the neverending salad and breadsticks deal though.
|
||
| Lamp Post Pizza | Torrance, CA | |
|
This is the type of place you take a soccer team or a big bunch of
kids. There are huge tables for everyone to sit at and the atmosphere
is very low-key. The pizza is decent.
|
||
| Cheesecake Factory Of Brentwoo | Los Angeles, CA | |
|
I really love the Cheesecake Factory because you get so much for
your money. The portions are huge and the atmosphere is warm and
cozy. I especially like the mashed potatoes here, but almost
every entree (15-20 dishes) I've tried has been solid.
|
||
| Papa John's Pizza | Los Angeles, CA | |
|
The pizza is different from most delivery-pizzas...it's a little
bit sweeter? It's a good change from Domino's or Pizza Hut.
|
||
| Jose Bernstein's | Los Angeles, CA | |
|
There are some interesting burritos here...they have a Korean
burrito where they put in kimchee! It's decent food for cheap
prices.

| Tio Pepe Restaurante | Baltimore, MD | |
|
The paella was excellent, as were the desserts I tried. The atmosphere
is romantic and intimate. The server was very funny--he recommended
all kinds of dishes to my boyfriend and me, and got insulted when
we ordered too much. Excellent food, but be prepared to spend
a fair amount of money for it.
|
||
| Ambassador Dining Room | Baltimore, MD | |
|
The restaurant is beautiful inside and there is outdoor seating
that has a fabulous view of a garden. It's very proper and the servers
are very formal. The chicken tikka masala is especially good,
but all the dishes I've tried have been solid.
|
||
| Crazy Mario's | Baltimore, MD | |
|
The pizzas aren't superb by any means, but they are edible and
pretty cheap. It's pretty standard college delivery food.
