| Fifty Nine Diner | Houston, TX | |
|
This restaurant was pretty average to me, but my friend really
liked it. He said they mixed the cherry coke just right and the
strawberry shake was the best he had in Texas. He was also particularly
enthused about the ketchup being in glass bottles. I guess this
diner is a good place for 1950s purists. I enjoyed the mint chocolate
chip shake--first time I've seen one of those. The waitresses
were cheerful, but they seemed to think we were on a date and left
us alone a little too much.

| Wurst Haus German Restaurant | Lake Jackson, TX | |
|
This place has some good traditional German food. I had a dish
of different cold cuts and a dish of spicy chicken. You get butter
and bread, plus salad as appetizers. The decorations are interesting;
they have a cuckoo clock near the pub. The family (staff) is very
friendly.

| Chevys Mexican Restaurant | San Diego, CA | |
|
What I really enjoyed here was this sort of corn mush that was served
as a side. Well, there wasn't much of it; maybe it was an embellishment,
like sour cream or guacamole. The Spanish rice was warm and soft,
and the enchiladas tasted great. The cornbread was fresh and
smelled good. Overall, I had a nice dining experience.

| El Cuervo Taco Shop | San Diego, CA | |
|
This is like a little diner, and the lady who took my order was very
friendly. The food is great, and the price is low. You can get free
refills on your soda; the dispensers are self-serve. I had some
tasty beef enchiladas. If I lived in San Diego, I'd go here all
the time!

| Emerald Chinese Seafood Restaurant | San Diego, CA | |
|
Someone was having a wedding dinner (or reception) in the restaurant
while I was there. I really enjoyed the shrimp chips here...haven't
had them in the longest time. The different seafood was great.
If you have any specific seafood allergies, be careful about
ordering dishes with mixed seafood. Other than that, go for it!

| Sushi Ota | San Diego, CA | |
|
This was my first time at an actual sushi place. Raw fish is actually
satisfying in a strange primal way. Easy on the horseradish (green
creamy stuff that's served with the sushi) because it can really
give you a kick in the mouth. I also found out the fried eel tastes
like potato chips. Not bad, and definitely worth a try!
