Bonsai Teriyaki Medford, OR
Much more than anyone would expect for a little diner/restaurant located adjacent to the Medford Greyhound Bus Station and across the street from Lithia Dodge/Jeep. Limited onstreet parking. Excellent lunches and most entrees under $5.00. Delightful decor with a circular window, skyblue ceiling and lots of kites used to decorate and catch the eye. Asian owned and operated and authentic flavors to please the palate. Great family fare.
Nature's Kitchen Yreka, CA
An excellent, eclectic "health food" cafe, featuring homemade soups daily, lots of vegan and vegitarian dishes and a few poulty dishes for the omnivores amongst us. A windowfront restaurant with limited off street and some onstreet parking available. Front window dining area is covered by a vine arbor with overhead plants and vines, giving the feeling of dining outdoors, even on cold winter days. A fun place to eat. Great waitstaff. Natural healing and holistic health books and literature available for purchase. I highly recommend their daily specials.
The Cottage Café Yreka, CA
A converted house becomes a lunchtime café. When I've visited, the service has been slow, but the food only average. Soups, sandwiches, overpriced salads and limited menu. I visited right after they opened and hope my rating reflects a start-up operation. I expected more, but would give it another chance.
Ma & Pa's Donuts Yreka, CA
Sad to announce that "Pa" has stopped making the donuts! He still operates a great little diner with the same rustic charm, but the diner is for sale. He said he is willing to teach someone to make his donuts, but he is tired of getting up early and making them every morning. A great loss!
Sterling Take Out Barbeque Yreka, CA
Barbequed chicken, pork, and beef; shredded, sliced, ribs, and pieces. Delicious! Slowly cooked out front in a covered cast iron B-B-Q over mesquite wood. Menu is limited and the place is a converted service station. Not much to look at, but if you are in the mood for great B-B-Q to go, this is the place!
House of Thai Cuisine Ashland, OR
Nice decor with authentic style and Thai cooks. Plenty of off street parking. Food was tamed down, however, to cater to more delicate American palates and as a result, I found it rather disappointing. Service was friendly, and the day's special was tasty, but too mild. Menu offered vegan and vegitarian options, but everything is strictly á la carte, except for the day's special. Overall, for a quietly tame Thai lunch or dinner it is okay, but I prefer Vic's Mongolian BBQ across the street.
House of Thai Cuisine Eugene, OR
Thai-owned and operated, along with a sister restaurant of the same name in Ashland, OR, the Thai cooks have toned down their offerings for sensitive American palates. This is unfortunate. When I go to a Thai restaurant, I compare them based on their spicy dishes and I was frankly disappointed. The service was gracious, the decor was authentic, but the food was much too tame and rather pricey. Most entrées were just under $10 and the menu is strictly á la carte, except for daily specials which typically run around $15. Adequate portions, but overall an AVERAGE adventure in Thai food.
Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar Klamath Falls, OR
A fun place to eat, good menu, great waitstaff. Excellent sports bar for lunch, dinner, and/or enjoying the big game on Saturday afternoon with friends. A little pricey for a chain restaurant, but good food and excellent service are worth it. I have walked in with a group of 12-16 without reservations (twice!) and they are very accomodating and service was reasonable and the food, excellent.
Taco Delite Medford, OR
An unassuming Taco diner. Generous portions, reasonably priced. As mentioned by the other reviewer, Tacos is the prime reason to visit, Burritos is another. Really, you ought to try the deep fried Burrito. Otherwise, the service is okay, but nothing to write home about. The menu is somewhat limited and mediocre. The owner fancies he offers "the best french fries in town!" Decor is typical of older fast food joints and the place has needed table and floor cleaning every time we visit, but the price is right. Good, but not five stars good!
Red Lantern Orem, UT
Good variety of Chinese foods and salads in their buffett. The Red Lantern with the Mongolian is the one in Provo, I believe. I saw none at the one in Orem. Price was right. Food was okay. Service was good. Fun family dining.
The Lone Star Steak House Layton, UT
Outstanding steaks; huge portions. A little pricey, but loaded with atmosphere, friendly service and juicy steaks cooked to near perfection. Great place to impress a date!
Stockmen's Casino & Hotel Elko, NV
With a name like "Stockmen's" I expected a little more in their steaks. Smoking and non-smoking tables were too close and my asthma was aggravated. Noisy casino makes intimate chat nearly impossible, but that's what keeps the prices so low! Steaks were very good, but not great. Their "No Bull" steak and eggs breakfast was very good and on special for $4.25! Fun family dining and wonderful chainsaw wood carvings added to the atmosphere. Overall a pleasant dining experience.
Josefina's Mexican Food Susanville, CA
Busy place with typical decor and the obligatory salsa and chips. Homemade "hot" salsa was excellent but only lukewarm. Great menu with lots of options. Huge portions and delicious. Ditto on the sizzling platters, foods really do sizzle and smoke for several minutes after being delivered to your table. My personal favorite was a two chiles relleño platter; so good I salivate just thinking about it and so large I could hardly finish (but I did!) .
Jeff's California Cattle Co Redding, CA
The Friday night Prime Rib Special is OUTSTANDING! But go early, they tend to run out. Their steak and eggs breakfast is also a cut above the rest (thin cut tri-tip steak instead of generic "breakfast steaks"). Fun atmosphere, reasonable prices, off street parking and lots of western hospitality. Popular place with a relatively small dining room, so go early and ENJOY.
Buz's Crab Stand Redding, CA
A wonderful "Down East" atmosphere in Northern California with Maine lobster pots hanging overhead, an eclectic array of nautical thing-a-ma-gigs and paraphenalia on the walls and GREAT seafood. The Fish & Chips were great. The fried clams a joy to eat and a wonderfully varied menu loaded with other seafood options makes it hard to decide what to order. Very popular place and limited parking, so get there early and plan to stay and ENJOY the experience.
Ma & Pa's Donuts Yreka, CA
A fun local donut shop and grill. Good breakfast specials and great donuts. Literally a Ma & Pa operation, it is not unusual to have Pa come out and toss donut holes to diners as an enticement to "take some to go." Menu is a fun and unique piece of local lore and colorful local nicknames for the items on the menu. Diner has lots of antiques on the walls and features an original bubbling juke box. FUN family fare! Adequate off street parking just off the North Yreka Exit from I-5.
Poor George's Yreka, CA
A constantly packed restaurant that is a local favorite hang out for city police, sherrif's department and highway patrolmen. HUGE breakfasts at unbelievably reasonable prices. Wonderful lunch specials and a great selection of luncheon sandwiches. Crowding can result in a wait for a table, but the wait staff is constantly doing their best to satisfy every customer's whims and fancies. Limited parking.
Peppermill Hotel & Casino West Wendover, NV
The Rain Forrest Buffet. Don't waste your time on the menu, order the buffet - it's fabulous. Mongolian BBQ, Prime Rib and/or honey baked ham are sliced as you stand in line, salad and desert bars that are simply to-die-for! A wonderful family dining experience and/or a private dining experience for two. Fabulous decorating and great waitstaff. Peppermill (Rainbow) Casino and Hotel room special includes a $1 off coupon for dinner - what a bargain!
Boston Shaft Family Restaurant Yreka, CA
The best facilities in town and above average dining. Good food in a unique building, built literally over the Boston (mine) Shaft from the early mining days of this gold rush town. Adequate off street parking and easy access on and off of I-5. Private dining tables which are not crowded together and a huge banquet table for catered special occasions.
Grandma's House Yreka, CA
An Excellent menu, great food, and a uniquely wondeful setting. Grandma's House is almost like a Gingerbread house! Delightfully decorated with a very busy, but fascinating decor. Waitresses dressed like little old grandmas. Limited parking. Very popular, so there may be a wait for service. Most seating is in booths and small tables which feel cramed into this old yellow Victorian house. Desserts are certainly worth saving space for.
