| Great Wall Chinese Restaurant | Boise, ID | |
|
We brought a party of 13 teens and 5 adult chaperones to this place
without reservations! They went out of their way to accomodate
our party. The buffet was wonderful and varied. The waitstaff
was prompt and very understanding and willing to do whatever
it took to satisfy our group. Three kids didn't want to eat
Chinese, so they were able to order off the menu and the service
was so good and so fast that they were served before any of the party
made a second trip to the buffet! With plenty of off-street parking,
friendly and helpful waitstaff, and reasonable prices all in
addition to an excellent variety of Chinese foods, this restaurant
is a top choice for family dining, large groups, or intimate dinners
for two.

| Benihana Japanese Steakhouse | Reno, NV | |
|
The Benihana Reno is located in the newly remodeled hotel, formerly
the Flamingo and now the "Golden Phoenix" and the
whole place has been upgraded. Perhaps the Benihana has been,
too, as the above reviews do not come close to describing my experience.
I decided to take my wife out for a romantic get away and we stayed
at the Golden Phoenix for their room and show special rate. On
Friday evening we went to the Benihana without reservations
and after just an eight minute wait, our table was ready. A waiter
was there within minutes to take our drink and dinner orders.
My wife ordered the Benihana Special ($30.95) and I ordered the
Chef's Special ($38.95) with tenderloin, scallops, shrimp
and lobster accompanied with the grilled vegetables and steamed
rice.
Another party of four joined us at our table/grill. In typical
Benihana style, the grill chef arrived with the makings for our
dinners just a few minutes later. As one of the other party ordered
a side of fried rice, the chef began with that. The flying knife,
spatula, food and repartee were constant. The chef's banter
was funny, his presentation and meals were delicious. During
the meal, Patrick Lau the manager, came by to check that our meals
were properly served and tasty. The decor was authentic and beautiful.
The chef, waitstaff, and manager were truly concerned that our
dining experience was memorable.
Our experience was obviously different from the previous reviewers.
Perhaps the place has improved along with the remodeling of the
hotel. Perhaps we just had a better chef (unlikely). More likely,
we came with the expectation to pay a little more for an authentic
and special meal and evening. We were not disappointed in the
least.

| Z Tejas | Chandler, AZ | |
|
To me, this restaurant exemplifies the word "eclectic."
Their food is a combination of Mexican and Cajun, their decor
is "Louisiana rustic" and their waitstaff exceptionally
friendly, fast, and just "down home" great. Their
complimentary cornbread is served in small round iron baking
pans - hot from the oven and DELICIOUS! I ordered the Chicken Chile
Relleno; it was huge, spicy, and wonderful. A side Ceasar Salad
completed my order and left no room for dessert.
My dining companion ordered their "Cajun shrimp and pasta"
special with a tossed green salad. He felt the shrimp was perfect,
but the pasta was disappointing. Based on my meal, I'd have
to give it 4 stars, based on his 3 stars - but I think I'd have
loved his meal, so I gave it an overall 4 stars, anyway.

For more information on this delightful local chain of
restaurants (Scottsdale, Tempe, Phoenix and Chandler), I'd
refer you to their web site at:

| Matthew's Restaurant | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
Matthew's Restaurant is located in the Best Western Grace
Inn Ahwatukee. My first meal there was a disaster and I would not
have gone back had I not been staying there. It took over twenty
minutes to have someone actually take my order! Then I ordered
the Grand Canyon breakfast, two eggs any style (I chose over easy),
with choice of sausage, ham or bacon (I chose sausage), hash browns
and toast (I asked for rye). I also ordered an orange juice. What
I got was a two-egg omlette with cheese, chizorro and mushrooms,
soggy hashed potatoes that were only warm and definitely NOT
brown, and they never did bring my orange juice! I was charged
for the more expensive meal I never got. I was fuming!
The second morning, perhaps they remembered me(?), my service
was marginally better and my order was slow, but as I ordered it.
Food was pricey, over $10 for a $6.50 order, plus juice, tax and
tip. That meal was only average, at best.
If I could I would have rated this 1.5 stars, but the so-so food
(barely) outweighed the lousy service.

| Outback Steakhouse | Boise, ID | |
|
I ordered the Outback Special - 12 oz. sirloin. When my Cesar Salad
came, the waitress came back to ask if it was okay and would I like
more dressing on the salad. In all my reviews, this was the first
time I've ever been asked that question!
Then the steak came with the grilled vegetables. DONE TO PERFECTION.
I ordered the steak medium rare and the flavor couldn't have
been better (the center was red and hot). They refilled my drinking
water at least 5 times without ever being asked. Although I rarely
order desserts, I was in the mood and ordered their New York stle
Cheesecake. It was as good as the famous Lindy's style New
York Cheesecake I had in New York. The raspberry sauce was a tangy
and wonderful accoutrement.
Excellent service, excellent food, wonderful waitstaff. amd
kitchen manager Rick Hoagland's special talents. What
more could anyone ask for. This is the first chain restaurant
ever to earn my 5-star stamp of approval.

| Papago Cafe | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
Better than average for airport fare. Their Nachos Grande was
very good and very filling for just $7.99 plus $2.39 for a refillable
soda! Buffalo Wings were 7.99 and a side salad added 3.99 and 2.39
for an ice tea made it a bit pricy for just appetizers. The honey
chicken croissant was delicious for 8.49 and with a 2.39 soda
was rather pricy for a quick sandwich, but the service was reasonable
and the place was VERY busy. Worth stopping in when passing thru
this large airport, but I probably wouldn't go there just
to eat at the Papago Cafe.

| Matador Mexican Food Rest | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
Excellent Mexican food and conveniently located in downtown
Phoenix, just across the street from the Wyndham and Hyatt Regency
hotels. I was in a lunch salad mood and ordered their Taco Salad
($6.95 and HUGE). They had one of the very best hot salsas I've
had in a large Mexican restaurant yet. Their milder salsa was
also good, but their hot salsa was OUTSTANDING. Inspite of being
a popular food and watering hole, service was friendly, courteous
and prompt. No one at our table had "greasy food" complained
of by another reviewer. I will visit it next time I'm in Phoenix
as it's almost good enough to justify the trip by itself!

| Marston's Cafe | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
Kind of average for a hotel breakfast cafe. Located in the Wyndham
Phoenix. The "Grand Canyon Breakfast" was two eggs
any style, choice of ham, bacon or sausage, hash browned potatoes
and two buttermilk pancakes with stawberries and maple syrup
for 8.99 and 2.39 for a glass of "fresh squeezed" orange
juice, plus tax and tip. A $13 breakfast seems a little high, even
for a hotel. Food was okay, but nothing to write home about.

| Adams Grill and Bar | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
The Adams is the corner pub of the Wyndam Phoenix (former Crowne
Plaza) hotel in downtown Phoenix. It has an easy, casual atmosphere
that makes it a popular place for eating and unwinding from midday
to late night. The lunch buffet and happy hour are daily favorites,
while the dinner menu sizzles with delicious steakhouse-style
selections from the grill. I ordered a top sirloin with grilled
peppers and summer vegetables (14.95), the French Onion Soup
(a real bargain at 4.00), and with tax and tip still got out the
door for just $25. The service was excellent and the venue was
a relaxing meal after a hard day of business meetings. I found
it wonderfully enjoyable, the food done to perfection, and the
ambiance casual and relaxing.

| Hilander Motel & Steak House | Mountain Home, ID | |
|
Docherty's Restaurant, formerly the Highlander Motel
and Steakhouse, was a disappointment. I asked a friend where's
the best place in town to eat? He told me they had just reopened
under new management. Service was friendly, but slow. I ordered
the 16 oz. T-Bone medium rare, and it was served medium well done.
Most of their meals are over $16 and appetizers average around
$6. The steak was tasty, but not what I had ordered. Nonetheless,
I think I might give it another chance.

| Kitty Hawk Food | Boise, ID | |
|
This sandwich shoppe located inside the terminal at the Boise
International Airport, is pretty average for the airport sandwich
shops I've visited. The cheese-steak sandwich with soup
and salad bar (and ice water) came to over $10 plus tip. The sandwich
was small, but the soup was excellent and the salad bar was the
basic, average salad bar. Nothing to write home about, but not
such a bad place to stop for a quick repast whilst waiting for your
flight.

| Kikopelli's Southwest Grill | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
This Southwest themed bar and grill offers above average food
for a hotel restaurant and the prices were quite reasonable.
I ordered the small fillet mignon and it was prepared to perfection
with a wonderful baked sweet potato with butter, cinnamon and
brown sugar on it. The meal was completed by a cooked but delightfully
crip mixed veggies of broccoli and cauliflower. This could have
earned them a 4 Star, except that I also ordered an in-room pizza
one evening prepared by the same kitchen. The pizza was a bit of
a disappointment, though. Better to go down to the dining room
and enjoy the atmosphere and better food than to try to work in
your room while munching a mediocre sausage pizza that was lukewarm
and bland.

||
| Lone Star | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
I ordered a luncheon steak. It arrived cooked to perfection and
larger than I expected for the $8.64 price. The food and service
were excellent, the decor was quaint and the staff were lively,
helpful and informative. Great place for a serious lunch.

| El Torito Mexican Restaurant & Cantina | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
Well, after reading the other comments, I had to add my review.
I had a wonderful lunch here. They refilled the tortilla chips
without being asked. Food was very tasty. I too like really hot
food, but the salsa was okay. I thought it mild, but the others
in my party felt it was a bit too spicy. Probably a good indicator
that they need more than one option there. But the meal was very
good, the service was prompt (we were in and out in less than an
hour during a busy lunchtime). Maybe I hit it on a "good day"
but I think it deserves 3 Stars.

| Crowne Plaza F & B Phoenix | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
Breakfast and Lunch Buffet in the Crowne Plaza North Phoenix
hotel. The buffet is only average at best, and at $8.59 for chaffing
dish scrambled eggs that tasted like they came out of a carton,
was a disappointment. The fresh fruit and yougart almost made
up for the warmed over eggs and bacon, but for a buffet, the choices
were limited and the price a little high for the quality and poor
selection. Okay to visit if you are staying there, but not worth
going there for the buffet (either breakfast or lunch). Better
to stop by Burger King for an egg croissant on the way to a meeting
here than to arrive early for the buffet. A real disappointment.

| Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
I believe this is the first chain restaurant that I've ever
given 5 Stars! Although I am not a fan of chain restaurants, the
Pappas restaurants keep me coming
back. Pappadeaux's takes the cake among the various Pappas,
though. DO NOT eat their without trying the Fondeaux, which is
a delicious cheese fondue with seafood served with bread. I understand
from others in our dinner group that their specialty fru-fru
drinks are quite good, such as the Pappalicious, but these do
NOT go with spicy seafood. Service typically good to outstanding.
Our waitress suggested the Blackened Mahi and it was FABULOUS!
Then she brought out the desserts! Our party bought about four
and split them among the twelve of us and we were all STUFFED. The
cheesecake over the carrotcake bottom was marvelous. The seafood
is fresh - flown in daily! And the cajun spices are authentic.
Call for reservations on weekend nights; I understand that it
fills up quickly.

| Burger Bar | Medford, OR | |
|
Want a really good hamburger, made to your specifications as
you order? Tired of "fast food" hamburgers that are made by the
millions and microwaved to heat and serve? Then, Burger Bar probably
lives up to it's self-described status as the "Best Burgers in
Medford." They might cost a little more than the fast food joints,
but the burgers (and the wait) are worth it. Limited parking and
small area for eating in. Great place for take-out burgers that
are literally "made-to-order."
|
||
| Bonsai Teriyaki | Medford, OR | |
|
I had to add another review since they added their Sushi Bar! It
is very good and prepared right there at the bar. Limited seating
is available, but they do take reservations by telephone. This
is a wonderful family-owned restaurant. GREAT place for lunches
and generous servings. The Sushi bar is a little more costly than
their other meals, but is certainly worth the few cents more.
Still very informal and next door to the Greyhound Bus Depot.
A nicer facility and off-street parking would make them a 5-Star
restaurant!
|
||
| Elmer's Pancake & Steak House | Medford, OR | |
|
Best for their breakfasts. Large country-style breakfasts
with all the trimmings. They are very busy and too many tables
are packed into the place. I can hardly find a seat without my chair
touching someone else! Waitstaff was very friendly but apparently
too few, as they are constantly running to keep up with their customers.
Good off-street parking and located next to the Food-4-Less
near the intersection of I-5 and Crater Lake Highway. Good food,
fair prices, friendly waitresses, off-street parking. Good
place for the family.

||
| Shorty Small's Great American | Edmond, OK | |
|
The other comments are all fairly accurate. I found their ribs
to be excellent. Service at our table was excellent, but the next
table was poor. Service is very "iffy" - dependant upon the waitstaff.
I ordered a full slab of ribs, my wife ordered the shredded pork.
Good food. Moderate prices. Family friendly. Plenty of parking.
Fun place to eat...
