| Weidmann's Restaurant | Meridian, MS | |
|
Well if a person can write a review based upon the suspicion that she has a Weidmann's matchbook, then I guess I can write a review based upon the fact that I ate there. They've been here forever. It's based conveniently downtown, moderately priced and nice service. The menu I was presented with was about what you'd expect. There's a lot of history on the walls; if you're a native, you should go at least once. Parking is a bitch. But compared to downtown Atlanta, I guess it's not that bad. The fact is that I've lived here my whole life, I'm solidly in the middle class, and yet Weidman's is "That restaurant downtown that only downtown people go to and ... what do they serve, again?" I'd love to advertise it as a local favorite but ... well, it's just *not* a local favorite. It's basically the downtown Applebee's except Applebee's is cheaper and better.

Don't come here expecting Red Lobster. This is how Mississippi rednecks (like me) eat. Fried catfish, oysters, fried anything really. Picnic tables in a cinder block house with deer heads on the wall. Can't get any more southern. But my God, it's GOOD. This is one that people "passing through" generally miss. I'm sorry for them.

| La Pinata Mexican Restaurant | Meridian, MS | |

My favorite Mexican place in town. They used to have this ratty, greasy little place with concrete floors, but they've upgraded. So help me, I miss the old one. Standard fare, but a notch or two above average local quality.

| Jean's Restaurant | Meridian, MS | |

This is the type of restaurant that is at the center of every southern town. All the old men and local Somebodies come here for breakfast really early. And I believe they serve lunch but not dinner. Breakfast is great, lunch is ok, it's all great for the price.
