Rao's Bakery Spring, TX
This European style café has an exquisite taste in Italian desserts but is in dire need of customer service. I have been going to Rao’s Bakery for the past three years and have yet to see improvement in the staff’s friendliness or lack thereof, and the operation seems to have no solid organization. Unfortunately, the staff at the register are not friendly and will not crack a smile even if you begged. So right off the bat you may feel a bit unwelcome, but can wear off as your eyes steer to the right at the epitome of a desert selection. You will not know where to start and wish you had the stomach the size of a whale to try them all! In my last visit I had the large Fruit Tart. The crust was delicious and solid, the cream was perfectly sweetened, and the fruit was fresh and crunchy. Later I tried the Velvet Cake Ball. The semi-chocolate covering over ruled the velvet cake, which made it taste bland. The Italian Cream Cake ball was fantastic! The texture of the cake was nice and creamy. The cake was smooth on the palate with a nice duo mixture of coconut and walnut. And the semi-sweet chocolate covering was a great finale to the tasty delight. I tried their freshly brewed Mexican Coffee; I take my coffee with cream and sugar, but this coffee was so good I had it straight. Yes, it was that good. I also had the chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast. The chicken salad included white chicken with an ambiguously creamy light taste. Overall, I recommend this place for a light lunch and sweet treat but do not let the faulty staff ruin your appetite. Bon appétit!
