Updated review: Just visited recently. What I used to think of
as one of the most reliably good restaurants in Fell's Point
was very disappointing. One in my party ordered asked how the
mussels were. When they arrived, they were so small that most
good restaurants would have refused the shipment! Steamed too
long, they were rubbery and/or mushy. After the initial round
of drinks, the waiter seemed to forget about bar service - he would
have had a bigger check and thus a bigger tip if he had come back
to check on a second round. One good note - the youngest among us
thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate cake he had for dessert.

| Gibbys Seafood Restaurant | Lutherville Timonium, MD | |

This is just a so-so restaurant. Seafood for the masses. Lots
of thick, gloppy sauces on their "imperials". Fish
not as fresh as it could be. There are much better places to spend
your money in the area.

| Loco Hombre | Baltimore, MD | |
|
Recently renovated, both menu and decor, this restaurant has
become one of my favorites (living close-by helps). THe ceviche
trio is an inspired creation, and very tasty. A spicy shrimp dish
with corn salsa was excellent and beautifully presented. Noise
levels can get kinda loud, but overall, this is a fun dining experience.

| Sip & Bite Restaurant | Baltimore, MD | |
|
The best thing about this place is it's open 24 hours. Other
than that, don't expect much of the food. A spaghetti dish
was slathered in a too-sweet sauce, and the accompanying chicken
was dry. My companion did seem to enjoy his omelette, though.

UPDATE: Thankfully, this place has been bulldozed to make way
for bigger ant better things (hopefully) at Inner Harbor East.

| Pierpoint Restaurants | Baltimore, MD | |

Have been here several times recently - first with a women's
chef group, and later with a date. On the first visit, we were treated
to a talk on MD foods, and especially seafood, by chef Nancy Longo.
Various "tasting dishes" were very good.
The second time, I had the cioppino: seafood swimming in the most
delicious tomato-based broth I have ever tasted. My companion
pronounced the smoked crabcakes the best crab he had ever eaten.
They were served with Brussels sprouts (which I learned on an
earlier visit were a native MD veggie) in a delicious creamy sauce.
<br>
The only thing that keeps me from giving this place 5 stars is that
the waiter (who was also the bartender) was not familiar with
the liquors at the bar, and was a bit clumsy when clearing the table.
Presentation of the dishes could have been a little better, but
don't let the casual atmosphere and size of the room fool
you - this place puts out some very tasty meals.

| Sydney's Side Street Rstrnt | Rehoboth Beach, DE | |

We stumbled on this restaurant looking for one that served dinner
late, and boy were we glad we did. The owner was very accommodating,
and the waitstaff knowledgeable and friendly. A seafood appetizer
with lump crab, scallops and puff pastry strips in a gream sauce
was rich and delicious. The pecan crusted chicken breast stuffed
with apricots was also good, as was a swordfish special that night.
The vegetables were perfectly cooked, and the desserts looked
good even though we didn't have room to try them. The fact that
Deanna Bogart, one of my favorite local musicians, just happened
to be playing there that night didn't hurt, either.

| Emeril's Restaurant | New Orleans, LA | |
|
I went here with a group, and we were in the Wine Room, so the only
noise we heard was our own. The food is expensive, but worth it.
I had a smoked mushroom and pasta appetizer that was quite possibly
the best thing I've ever eaten! The pecan crusted fish dish was
excellent, as well. We had specific wines poured for each course,
and a variety of desserts that were out of this world. Wait staff
was attentive and knowledgeable. An incredible experience!

I was expecting a lot more when I went here with a group of friends.
We were treated very well, however, the food was not as good as
I had hoped. We started with several appetizer sampler plates
with several kinds of seafood salads that were pretty good - but
I am sure I could duplicate them at home. The Shrimp au Vin with
pasta was good, but nothing to write home about. Where are all
the New Orleans spices? The best part of the meal was our friendly
waiter who served us a special flaming coffee concoction from
a big tureen as we ate dessert.

| Harryman House Restaurants | Reisterstown, MD | |
|
Small rooms make this old restaurant a cozy place to go on a date.
Food is good - very inventive combinations, such as a fish dish
that came with "succotash" with a southwest bent. Other entrees
lean more towards French cuisine. Vegetables were grilled to
perfection. Nice wine list. I think I'll try their Sunday brunch
next time.

| Frazier's Restaurant & Tap Room | Baltimore, MD | |
|
Not sure if the place on 33rd Street is still there, but I went to
the "sister" restaurant on The Avenue (36th Street). Tacky second
hand furniture is the decor - but this is just what you expect in
Hampden, Hon! The entrees sounded much better than they tasted.
A chicken and mushroom dish was far more greasy than it should
have been. A seafood pasta dish was very light on the seafood,
but heavy on the canned bell peppers. Salads were mostly iceburg
lettuce. There is no real non-smoking section as the dinner tables
are seated around a bar, near pool tables, or on a platform in back
of the band (a very eclectic one playing there one Sunday night).

| Olive Garden | Westminster, MD | |
|
This is one of the better chain restaurants. Management pairs
with a cooking school in Italy to create new menu items regularly.
Wine list is not bad for tis type of place, but it is also a good family
restaurant. Mushroom ravioli was very good, as were the stuffed
mushrooms. Good for a quick, casual meal.

| Petit Louis Bistro | Baltimore, MD | |
|
Food is very good French cuisine...but it is WAY overpriced for
what you get. And, the acoustics in the place are so bad I could
barely hear my cross-table companion speak. They must have realized
their pricing mistake, as they are now offering a new lunch menu
which is considerably cheaper. And a wine bar with no stools?
Chef Cindy Wolfe is definitely one of Baltimore's Best, but if
you want expensive, incredible food in an elegant setting , go
to her other place, Charleston's, at Inner Harbor East.

| Pickles Pub | Baltimore, MD | |
|
A group of us went here one Sat. night after a hard day working a
show at the Convention Center. The side room was supposedly reserved
for our group, but there were kids there shooting pool. Buffet
was eventually set up - food was greasy. Politely asked the bartenders
to have the kids leave, especially the one laying on a table puking.
When they did not, we asked them ourselves. Their response was
to start a barroom brawl, attacking many of the middle-aged members
of our group. We were appalled, and some severely hurt before
the management came to our aid. The owner eventually tore up the
tab, but the damage was done. I will NEVER go to this place again
and suggest that you don't either!

| The Melting Pot | Towson, MD | |
|
This is not just a restaurant, this is a dining experience. Ceramic
tile tables are fitted with burners where your server prepares
one of several types of cheese fondue for an appetizer, with bread,
veggies and fruit for dipping. Next comes a scrumptious salad
course (try the California with gorgonzola and walnuts), followed
by your main course fondue. We had the Court bouillon, a simmering
pot with aromatic herbs, in which we dunked shrimp, salmon, chicken,
beef tenderloin, and teryaki beef, as well as squash, mushrooms,
broccoli, etc. It also came with 7 different sauces to top the
items once they were cooked. The atmosphere is great for either
an intimate dinner for 2 - they have a great wine list - or a larger
group of friends. The service was friendly and helpful. I can't
wait to go back.

| Kooper's Tavern | Baltimore, MD | |

Casual bar, but some of the best bar food in Fell's Point. Sandwiches
are above average, staff is friendly and efficient. Often music
on weekend evenings. One of my favorite places.

| Timbuktu | Elkridge, MD | |
|
I have heard good things about this restaurant for years, and
I finally got to try it last night. I was thoroughly disappointed.
While the food was edible, presentation was poor. The salad consisted
of iceberg lettuce that was nearly white, a few shaved carrots,
waxy tomatoes, and some tasteless croutons, served with a ranch
dressing so thick I had to spread it on with a knife. The entree,
Seafood DiAblo, was a little better, but the menu stressed this
was a SPICY dish, and the red sauce was no spicier than Ragu. The
shrimp and scallops were fine, but the Alaskan crab had been replaced
with surimi - guess they thought the sauce would disguise it.
Service was OK, though I thought it odd that the waitresses stood
in front of the bar chain smoking, waiting for their patrons to
finish a course. Definitely low class. I couldn't believe the
place was as crowded as it was.

| Alonso's Restaurant | Baltimore, MD | |
|
A neighborhood restaurant that has changed in recent months
to offer better than average food in a cozy bar atmosphere. The
burgers are still the best, and the appetizers and pasta entrees
are delicious. My favorite is a seafood combination (clams,
mussels and shrimp) artfully arranged over a huge bowl of saffon-scented
pasta.
If you're looking for a family place, their sister restaurant,
Loco Hombre, is through a doorway near the bar. Good Mexican food,
though the acoustics could be better.

||
| Kali's Court | Baltimore, MD | |
|
Probably the freshest fish in Baltimore. Great wine list, most
entrees consist of a whole fresh fish with different preparations.
Pricey, but a good place to go if you're trying to impress a client
or a date. Outside cafe tables available, as well as an upstairs
balcony indoors.

Great place to go for a cup of coffee or to keep talking after the
bars close. Standard diner fair, lots of desserts.
