| Famous Taco | Lansing, MI | |
|
Since my previous review, i have seen that the e. lansing and the
location near oldsmobile have closed. At the time of my last review,
i did not know there was a s. cedar location and have only recently
seen a famous taco in a small strip-type location west of the lansing
mall. If anyone from the area can help, it would be good to know
the current open locations and if they are all affiliated with
the original famous taco. Thanks.

| Pizza Parlor | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Nice atmosphere, open, windowed, airy. Good food, good service
most times. Good for families. Salad bar, small counter bar,
beer and wine available. Good "pizza-place" menu
variety. Easy parking in a rural location, west of battle creek.
Has the "family-owned" atmosphere vs. a chain restaurant.

| Lone Star | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Well known western-motif steak-house chain restaurant. If
you have never been to one, you should go. Upscale, clean, fun
atmoshphere. Service has always been good there for me. Good
food, can get pricey. Make sure it's cooked the way you want
it. Can be a substantial wait during busy periods. Two things
that I don't really enjoy about Lone Star. When there is a
substantial wait, ,, the hostess breaks in over the music (which
is normally a very fun part of this place) .....when this happens
every 30 seconds, ,, it can get very annoying. They have a very
nice bar, ,however - regardless of if you came in for a drink,
or you are waiting for a table, ,, the restaurant has a policy
of serving only two drinks to anyone at the bar, ,, ,, they will
completely ignore you if you've had two drinks. Nice place
to eat tho, overall.

| Ritzee Hamburg Drive-In | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Long-time fast food favorite on the west side of battle creek.
Family owned and operated for years. Good fast food, ,, many
options, ,, breakfast, ,great coffee, crinkle fries, drive
thru window, ,, chili dogs are my favorite. If you wanna break
from the "big" fast-food chains, Ritzee is a good
change up. Large, open dining area. You order at the counter,
then they bring your meal to your table.

| Don Pablos | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Well know mexicana-style chain restaurant. Very large and open
seating, ,, with a casual, fun atmosphere. Music, lots of color,
quasi-ethnic decor. I find the serving to price ratio to be pretty
good here, if you order the right selections. Combo plates and
specials seem to be a fairly good value. Nice bar area, with high-top
seating as well as inviting bar seating. Service is usually friendly
and good, ,sometimes very personable. Good selection of beers, ,, and
marguritas too, their specialty. Dos Equie draft is my fav, ,, but
don't let them serve you those ridiculous fish bowls that
they call beer glasses, ,, ,, demand the pint glasses!!! (my
personal crusade). Located within the area of the Lakeview Square
Mall, however the building is seperate and away from the mall
in the southeast corner of the mall parking lot, ,, ,easy assess
from I-94, easy parking. Muy bien!!

| Comedy Club Gary Fields | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
The Comedy Club is generally known to be a nite spot with a very
large area of seating for comedy shows on the weekends and a seperate
bar area, with a fun, inviting atmosphere. There are tvs for sporting
events, a large outdoor deck, and a long bar. Staff is usually
younger and friendly. Busy times in the bar can be nearly standing
room only with people sitting and standing on the deck, ,, shuttling
in and out. A good meeting place for drinks and music. I believe
they may offer appetiser-type food, however, I am not familiar
with their selection. They have bike nite on Monday, and if you
are a rider, it will be worth your time to try it, ,, ,you get the
front and side of the parking lot with deck all around to park in,
free from other cars and trucks, ,, ,nice showcase for all to
watch you come and go on a beautiful summer eve. They also have
DJ and dancing some nites and host a Karokee competetion one nite
of the week. Fun place, near the mall, ,, ,on Capital Ave. SW.

| Carl Angelo's Restaurant | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Carl Angelo's, ,, ,a long time local favorite and watering
hole for the north side of battle creek, changed ownership and
name about 2 yrs ago, ,, or 3. It is now the Bailey Park Grille
and has been remodeled to open the atmoshpere and freshen the
look. The new owners have remodeled the inside as well as adding
doors and windows to the new outdoor patio area. Not sure of their
current menu, altho rumor has it that they tried to keep some of
the familiar italian items from Angelos on the menu. The burgers
are delicious and the atmosphere is very casual. They offer live
music on the weekends, usually, and dining during the music-time
can be uncomfortably loud, ,, ,this is when it turns from a bar/restaurant
to a bar. Probably ok if you eat before 8-9 pm.

| Hunt Club of Battle Creek | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
The Hunt Club is a popular meeting place in the evening, quite
busy on the weekends. It has casual, comfortable seating and
atmosphere with an ample winding bar top, sports tvs, tables
and booths. Music is prevalent, usually, and service is historically
good. I believe they serve lunch, dinner as well as favorite appetizers, although my experience is less with the food. Am told it is good. Know for good drinks and as a meeting spot, not far from Capital Ave SW and Columbia Ave, on Columbia Ave.

| Elias Bros Big Boy | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
I have found the quality of Big Boy, ,, in many locations, not
just b.c., ,to be quite variable. It is, of course, a large chain,
many times open early till quite late in some locations. They
offer a popular breakfast bar, which can be good if the food is
fresh, ,, careful about going right at the end of the buffet
time. I would say, in general, there is a good selection of foods,
however, my gut tells me to stick with the burgers, breakfast
items, ,, ,can't see spaghetti (altho never tried it here).
The battle creek location has a very nice all-glass side room
which is quite large and brings in the outdoors nicely. Kind of
a hit & miss vote with me, altho coffee and dessert will most
always be good here, at least.

| Famous Taco | Lansing, MI | |
|
I used to frequent Famous Taco when they were in downtown Lansing
when I attended MSU. It was then, and remains now, in it's
2 new locations (no longer in the downtown Lans. location), some
of the most authentic and tastee mexican cuisine around. They
have a shredded beef wet burrito that will bring you back time
and time again. The portions are generous, to say the least. Locations
in Lansing and East Lansing. Very casual, authentic atmosphere,
in general. When I travel to Lansing, ,I try to make it a point
to stop, it's well worth it!!

| Sir Pizza | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Have enjoyed this small chain in battle creek now for at least
25 yrs now. Quality and price are very competetive and steady
throughout the years. Friendly staff, primary business
is take-out, however small dining room in the Capital Ave NE location.
This chain used to be in E. Lansing also many yrs. ago, not sure
if they still are. This style of pizza is different from the Papa
Johns/Dominos/traditional heavy cheesed top-load pizzas.
Excellent sauce and the crust is wonderfully awesome. Cut into
rectangle pieces, vs. pie slices. Crispy edges without being
a thin-crust, and more pliable in the center pieces. Order for
take out ususally less than 20 min.

| Magoo's Restaurant & Lounge | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Another good casual dining establishment in the battle creek
area has gone out of business, now nearly two yrs ago, or more.
|
||
| Mr Ronald's Rib & Steak House | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
This newly constructed restaurant (albeit many yrs ago) has
never opened. I believe the reason is due to the property being
seized for some other (legal) reason. Nice looking place from
the outside, ,, in an area of town that could use the revitalization,
etc, but doubt that it can ever open.

||
| Pablo's | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Pablo's Jungle is the prime dance-club place in battle creek
(there in nearly no competetion here either, however) with high
energy music, younger crowd (over 21, of course), and very busy,
late night on the weekends. You wanna dance in battle creek, this
is the only place to go, but it is good for that!! Food is available,
I believe, however, this would be during the non-evening hours.

||
| Mexicali Restaurant | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Have to agree with the previous reviewer, ,, however, sometimes
the kids will like the less authentic food, yet can expose them
to the cuisine. Atmosphere is casual, yet inviting. My service
has been good the times that I have been there. Still searching
for more authentic mexican in the battle creek area.

||
| Millers Time Out | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
This is a bar that serves bar food. It seems to be a pretty good bar,
but have heard more negatives regarding food than positives, ,however,
I gotta believe the burgers have to be good. Large, active-type
of atmosphere, ,, music, karaoke, sports bar atmosphere.
Must have ID even if you are over 40, after 9 or 10 pm. Staff is usually
very outgoing and fun.
|
||
| Moonraker Lounge & Restaurant | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Nice atmosphere with popular bar area/dining combined. Excellent
outdoor deck dining in season. Much of the food that I have had
there is very good, altho never have tried the steaks nor seafood.
Menu variety is good. Can accomodate fairly large groups. A little
on the sports bar, comfortable atmosphere, casual. Definitely
a local meeting place.
|
||
| Arcadia Brewing Co | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Cool brewpub atmosphere. No mixed drinks served. Pizza is excellent
combined with the overall atmosphere. Good microbrew beer if
you are into that. I believe the bar usually closes at some ridiculous
hour, even on the weekends, ,, ,, like 10pm or so --at least
they used to, ,, check b4 you go!! Have occasional music live
and the popular annual Blues, Brews, and Barbecue, ,, ,which
has become a bit pricey over the few yrs.

||
| Palermo Ristorante | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Good Italian food in a nice Italian-style atmosphere, ,even
with red checkered tablecloths! Have not tried a wide variety
there yet, but plan to. Agree with the previous reviewer regarding
service. Not a big place, ,perhaps a tiny bit cramped at busy
times. They seem to do a good business, however, so I think that
they serve the area well. Near battle creek's industrial
park, easy access of I-94.

||
| Clara's On the River | Battle Creek, MI | |
|
Very nice atmosphere, in the heart of downtown battle creek.
Casual as well as dressier attire will be seen there. Their menu
is very large with many, many, many options. They offer a Sunday
brunch that is uncomparible with anything in this area that I
am aware of. The brunch buffet offers a custom-made omlette bar,
prime rib, a huge variety of breakfast items as well as others, and
the desserts are beautiful and also quite plentiful. Outdoor
cafe-style seating is available in season. I think you would
always find something here that you would like. Fireplace seating
as well as fairly large group is available.
