| Umai Sushi | Colonia, NJ | |
|
I visited Umai twice and took takeout. The first visit I ordered octopus
( nahk chi bakum ) and an order of sunomono. I was disappointed with the
sunomono because it did not have any octopus in it and I saw the sushi
chef take it out of the refrigerator already premade. The octopus dinner
was good but I have had better elsewhere. I returned the next day and
and got a mixed seafood dish that tasted very similar to the dish I had
previously and some delicious egg rolls, the ones with the noodles
in them. The other thing I really liked about my dinner was that even
though it was takeout they still gave me all of the side dishes that they
serve during dinners at the korean restaurants. It was a sampling of
kimchee, bean sprouts and other pickled and marinated items. I love
korean food and wanted this to become a place I could visit often but
they fell a little short of that. I might try them again ina few weeks
or months.

| Alessio 426 | Metuchen, NJ | |
|
Went to Alessio with 10 of my cousins for a reunion dinner. I had the hanger
steak with balsamic vinegar reduction as an entree, calamari salad
and italian calamari sushi for appetizers. I also was lucky enough
to sample the chicken francaise, spinach ravioli, oysters on a half
shell and I had some nice sicilian wine that I got from the liquor store
next door to this BYOB. Everyone had good things to say about their meals
and the waitress knock herself out to give us great service. The owner
was very nice and welcoming to us as well.I will visit here again.

| Christies Steakhouse | Edison, NJ | |
|
My most recent trip to Christies I ordered ceviche for an appetizer,
and a porterhouse medium-rare. Initially I was disappointed to learn
that they were out of ceviche but I cose the crabcake because my son also
oredred it and was very pleased with it. My steak came out like I asked
and was good. The only problem I had was that the plates had little recesses
in them and made it difficult when I tried to cut my steak. My son had the
strip steak and said it was the best steak he ever had.The waiter was
a bit slow. I had a nice glass of J.Lohr cabernet with my meal. The wine
list has some decent house type wines but no top shelf stuff. They gave
us a scratch off ticket when we were leaving. You must come back to the
restaurant to eat again inorder to scratch it off. you can win anything
from a free dinner to hotel stays or free dinner for a year. We will be
going back again very soon.

| Thai House Rock | Colonia, NJ | |
|
Ive been here many times but I had not been there in awhile. I had forgotten
how good the food is.small place which does more takeout than dine in.
the decor is old rocknroll records and some asian statues. my first
stop I got thai egg rolls and spicy rice with chicken.the egg rolls are
the ones with the noodles, they were a little greasy but were ok.The
spicy rice was a delicious blend of flavors with a little heat. I said
medium heat when asked but I shouldve went for it.The second night IO
stopped I asked for the spicy rice again but requested that they also
add shrimp. they were happy to do so. The menu encourages you to ask for
anything you want so they passed the test. I also got tom yum soup which
was very spicy, good but a little too salty for me.I have been here many
times and it is worth a visit so if your near Colonia and you want some
really good pan-asian takeout stop at Thai House Rock.

| Urban Spice | Iselin, NJ | |
|
My friend Bill and I had dinner there this evening. For appetizers I
had the chicken65 and he had lamb skewers. The chicken 65 was awesome.
I tried the lamb skewers, they were good but not in the same league as
my appetizer. When we got our entrees they put a second table together
with ours so we wouldnt be crowded.Bills mirchi murgh was chicken in
a spicy sauce with red and green peppers, onions, garlic and ginger
while I had the shrimp biryani accompanied with a yogurt sauce on the
side. we tried two breads; one was with dreid fruit, nuts and raisins
and another stuffed with spiced lamb. I topped off my meal with a glass
of estancia syrah and Bill had a coffee made freshly ground on the spot. The
service was great, the price ($80) was great and it was quite honestly
the best indian food that I have ever had. I took a take out menu and plan
to be back very soon.

| Pheasant Landing | Hillsborough, NJ | |
|
Set in an area surrounded by open farmland and a few new houses in the
distance but not far from Easton avenue or rt287. Pheasant Landing
seems nice from the outside and is neat and welcoming on the inside,
the staff is friendly and tends to your needs. We didnt ever have to ask
for a drink or anything. They were right on top of things all the way through
dinner. We ordered onion soup which was rich and delicious and escargot
which was good but had a touch too much white wine that had not burned
off and was a little greasy, the wine settled into the mushroom caps
and gave off a poor finish. My friends entree was the rabbit. He has rabbit
every time he sees it on a menu and said it was by far the best rabbit dish
he had ever had. I didnt taste it but it looked and smelled awesome. I
had the game sampler it was loaded on my plate and I could not finish and
that doesnt happen to me that often! It had two boar sausages (not so
good) two medallions of venison served with cracked pepper and a assortment
of mushrooms and a cream sauce (awesome) accompanied by a wild boar
medallion wrapped in bacon topped with a demi glaze (delicious but
I wouldve liked it better had it been a little less cooked) and red cabbage
(great) and spaetzle (very good), I didnt finish the spaetzle completely
because I was stuffed. No dessert just coffees. An enjoyable night.

| Red Lobster | Woodbridge, NJ | |
|
Its not fine dining but my son likes it so I do go there alot. We always
get steak and lobster tails and I will occasionally get something different.
Most times the food and the sevice are good. This past visit they put
the glaze from the wood smoke menu on our steak without asking first
and it was gross. When I got home I called the restaurant and spoke to
the manager. He was very nice and told me that I should request no sauce
next time. I think they should ask me, how was I to know that they were
going to put that junk on my steak? The other thing they need to keep an
eye on is the salads always come out with browned lettuce etc. I never
send anything back to the kitchen, paranoid? maybe but it a rule I follow.I
will go back again because my son likes and they are generally good but
this is a chain and not a fine dining establishment and these things
will happen.

| Ria Mar Restaurant & Bar | South River, NJ | |
|
I love the Ria Mar, it is by far one of my favorite places to go. On the weeknds
if you sit in the at lunch time they have a specials menu and it is easy
to find something you will like. You can also order from the menu. I love
it there because they feed you like your hungry. The bar has a good friendly
feel to it.If you like eating where it is quiet dont go during the world
cup soccer because they are great fans and it rocks in there during the
games. I generally like to sit ina quieter atmosphere but that was a
great experience. If you go there at night in the main dining room you
will get good service and the same great food. My favorites are the garlic
shrimp appetizer, pork and clams and the marisicada. Two people can
eat dinner complete with appetizers, drinks and desert and not break
the bank.Look for the emtertainment book coupon as well.

| Pho | South Plainfield, NJ | |
|
Good flavorful food at low prices. Its different and new for me. If your
a little squeemish you might want to order more carefully because they
serve parts of the beef that americans are not used to eating. Once your
past that you will love the flavors. I always stop for some soup on cold
day.You get a large portion for 6 dollars. The meals are good too particularly
the salmon casserole and the shrimp with ground peanuts over noodles.
The restaurant is plain but the service is friendly and the food comes
out fast and hot.

| Wonder Seafood | Edison, NJ | |
|
Wonder Seafood is not your typical chinese restaurant. It doesnt have
that same old menu of the exact same entrees that the place down the street
has. They authentic food. Their use of real asian ingredients and techniques
is worth trying. Dried scallops, lily buds, frog legs, dungeness crab,
you name it.The service can be a bit off at times but is only because of
the slight language barrier. Get there early because it gets packed
fast later in the evening. They have a nice selection of soups, and not
the ones your thinking of ( wonton etc) Shrimp in squid ink ws so good
i almost ate the shells. sczechwan chicken and scallops was great and
the fried rice was awesome with the dried scallops etc in it.I could
eat here everyday.

| Tawa | Piscataway, NJ | |
|
I eat here all of the time, I love Tawa! The buffet is great, they have
it everyday. You can order a meal if you dont want the buffet. Friday
id a little more money because they put out a wider variety of food but
any day is good.It is buffet style so you really dont need to worry about
service. They do take away your plates quickly and are very friendly.Every
person who i take to tawa loves it too.You get free soda and bread with
the buffet.
