| Bar B-Q Bill'S-Oney's | Bishop, CA | |
|
I generally have their BBQ sandwich here and it isn't that
bad. The restaurant is actually relatively spacious, but like
it has been said, it can get packed at times. The decor is western
flavored, which is not my cup of tea, but when you are out west it
is something you see a lot of. If you're just wanting to try
some place different, this is a good place to go. Otherwise you
can go to one of the pizza places or finer restaurants in town.

| Carson Valley Inn | Minden, NV | |
|
This is for Katie's restaurant within the Carson Valley
Inn. It's a better atmosphere than most casino coffee shops
are, with the exception of the keno signs, it doesn't really
feel like you are in a casino. They have a wide variety of good food
and decent prices. They also have daily specials that you can
get at an even better price. The only thing I would like more here,
but is a falling of most casino restaurants, is that there are
very few windows.

| Pizza Factory-Bishop | Bishop, CA | |
|
Too many pizza franchise places tend to have pizzas that taste
manufactured to me, as if most of the pizza is really not made there
on site. Not so with the Pizza Factory, as you will see them toss
the dough themselves. I would go to the Pizza Factory over a Shakey's
or Pizza Hut. The thing with the Pizza Factory franchise is that
one won't exactly be like the other. The one in Bishop tastes
different than one in southern California. I usually have a pepperoni-mushroom
pizza here, and on occasion, the breadsticks, which I really
enjoy.

| Whiskey Creek Restaurant and Mercantile | Bishop, CA | |
|
I have seen Whiskey Creek change over the years since the restaurant
used to be two restaurants in one place - Whiskey Creek and Copper
Kettle - back in the mid to late 80s. Now it is just Whiskey Creek
and I like what it has become. The restaurant has nice decor and
is very relaxing. The bar area is separate so those coming here
for dining do not have to hear the noise that is common with bars
in restaurants. If you have anyone that is a finicky eater, check
the menu first, as they don't have the widest selection.
But what they do have is all very good. This is a great place to go
to take a date or someone special to. On top of it, you have small
town service, where the waiters and waitresses have that extra
special courtesy that is hard to find in the larger cities.

| Mandarin Gourmet | Minden, NV | |
|
Good Chinese food at a decent price. The Mandarin Gourmet is an
actual restaurant as opposed to many of the Chinese food places
that are either fast food places or just a notch above fast food
but not quite a restaurant. Still, the Mandarin Gourmet has fast
service and is a great place to go for lunch, even on a workday.
I've had the sweet and sour chicken. The vegetables were
not soggy like you can get at other places, they were very crisp.
The Mandarin Gourmet is just west of the Denny's that you
will see when you are on US 395.

| Winco Foods | Reno, NV | |
|
This is definitely the place to shop. You save more money here
then you would at other stores with their cards. Winco doesn't
use any cards. There are just a few items that they don't carry
that other stores do, but nothing too major. You also have to bag
your own groceries, but that is hardly a big deal to me.

| Red Robin | Reno, NV | |
|
Good food; I tend to have their mushroom burger. However, sometimes
the meat isn't cooked as much as I think it should be (and I
order them well done). The bottomless basket of fries is nice
for when you are really hungry. Good service and I usually don't
have to wait long to get a table.

||
| Johnny Rockets - Reno Hilton | Reno, NV | |
|
Their hamburgers are good (I had the mushroom burger) though
I feel they are a little bit overpriced, especially when you have
to order fries separately. The restaurant is right out there
on the casino floor so you will not be getting a quiet atmosphere
and you will have casino smoke drifting around. Despite that,
Johnny Rockets isn't that bad of a place.

| Woodetts Diner | Gardnerville, NV | |
|
Definitely a place to go eat if you find yourself in the Gardnerville
area. There's a lot to choose from in the menu and you get lots
of great food for a good price. The diner itself is clean and the
people polite.

| Applebee's Neighborhood Bar & Grill | Reno, NV | |
|
The food is good and portions can be fine; I feel that the honey
BBQ chicken that I get (at least I think that is the name) is good
for the money - 3 pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables,
and garlic bread.
I haven't had any problems with their service, so they may
have just improved since the other reviews have been done.
Desserts - good, though nothing particularly outstanding.
I've had the dulche de leche (or as they call it, caramel)
cheesecake which was good. I've also had the sizzling apple
pie type dessert which was ok, but I'd rather stick to regular
apple pie.

| International House of Pancakes | Sparks, NV | |
|
Good for breakfast and ok for lunch/dinner. They have unique
breakfast items and their lunch/dinner items are standard fare,
nothing to really write home about. The service is good at this
location, though.
|
||
| Marina Cafe | Sparks, NV | |
|
Standard coffee shop type food that occasionally has some really
good deals. You'll usually find a 2 for 1 coupon in the local
coupon books that are sent in the mail. Keep a look out for their
dinner specials, as you'll usually get a good amount of food
for a low price.
|
||
| Pizza Plus | Sparks, NV | |
|
I actually rarely get their pizza, which is ok, but tend to go for
their special which includes fried zuchinni, fries, wings,
bread, breaded mushrooms, and veggies. It's very good and
is a great idea for a party/get together. This serves 5-6 people
without much problem.

||
| Rapscallions' Roadhouse Grill | Sparks, NV | |
|
I had their chicken caesar salad while my friend had the angelhair
pasta. While the food was good, I thought it was a bit overpriced.
I would've also liked to have seen a little bit wider selection.
It's a bit of an out of the way place and is not on a major road
so it wasn't too busy there.

| Peppermill Island Buffet | Reno, NV | |
|
I went to the newly rebuilt Island Buffet at the Peppermill for
lunch. I like what they have done - they have given it a nice atmosphere
- moving trees, falling water, and the occasional storm show.
The food was ok, but nothing really stood out at me as "I've
got to come back here and have more of their ______." Based
on all of that, I think the price is a bit high and should be lowered
a couple of bucks. I'll probably try their breakfast to see
how it is, but I only see myself going here once in a rare while (mostly
due to the price).

||
| Black Bear Diner | Sparks, NV | |
|
I went to the Black Bear Diner for breakfast. Their breakfast
is a bit more expensive than other restaurants, but the food portions
are worth it. I had the vegetarian omelette and enjoyed it. The
biscuit that comes with it is very good as well. A friend tells
me that their biscuits and gravy is the best, which I'll take
their word on as I am not a biscuits and gravy fan. The servers were
nice and courteous as well. I expect to go back there in the near
future.
|
||
| Flaming Wok | Reno, NV | |
|
They have a variety of chicken including sweet and sour, sesame,
and lemon as well as lo mein, mixed vegetables, and fried rice.
The food is ok but nothing exceptional, though I do like their
fried rice. Their service is quick and they offer samples of their
chicken.

| Papa Murphy's Take and Bake Pizza | Sparks, NV | |
|
If you don't mind baking the pizza yourself, Papa Murphy's
is the place to go. I've had their pizzas ranging from the
pepperoni pizza to the grilled chicken and bacon stuffed pizza.
The pepperoni they use is just right; it has enough kick but is
not too spicy. Their pineapple tastes sweet and I generally not
a big fan on pineapple. Their stuffed pizzas will fill you up!
I'd also recommend trying their pepperoni pizza, but instead
of using tomato sauce, have them use the garlic sauce instead.
It sounds strange but is actually very good! I rarely get pizza
from anywhere else these days.

| Claim Jumper | Reno, NV | |
|
It's best to go here if you are really hungry because, as mentioned
before, their portions are huge. I had their equivalent of a turkey
dinner; good, but nothing too out of the ordinary except for how
much food was on the plate. Someone I was with had one of their salads
and enjoyed it to the point that I know they want to go back there
for the salad sometime. The atmosphere is quiet, low lit, and
basically has an old west - gold rush theme to it. I didn't
try their desserts, as I was too full, but I would like to go back
there and try them sometime.
|
||
| Dairy Queen | Reno, NV | |
|
Dairy Queen's food is ok, but nothing exciting. Besides,
you're more likely to be there for the desserts, which is
Dairy Queen's specialty. Their Blizzards are the way to
go - plenty of different combinations to try. If all you are wanting
is their desserts, though, I'd recommend going to the one
at the Meadowood Mall in the food court. Parking can be a pain at
the Dairy Queen downtown and traffic can be hectic, especially
at night.
