| Woofie's Hotdogs | Saint Louis, MO | |
|
Woofie's is a solid hot dog stand specializing in Chicago-Style
Hot Dogs. This means a steamed (never grilled) all beef Vienna hot dog,
steamed poppy seed bun, yellow mustard, chopped onion, pickle spear,
tomatoes, sport peppers, neon green relish, and a shake of celery salt.
The quality of their hot dogs is great and their french fries are equally
tasty with a special seasoning salt. I've tried the chili dog and
the chicago-style dog, although they offer a number of other types
including a New York style dog. The chili was pretty bland and unremarkable,
so I would stick with the delicious Chicago-style dogs. My only problems
with Woofie's is that on my visit, the girls working the counter
seemed more concerned with their social lives than taking customer
orders. Also, it is a cash-only joint so if you're a plastic only
kind of guy like I am, be sure to hit an ATM first. Otherwise Woofie's
offers great quality hot dogs for an unbeatable value, worth a visit
for sure.

| Olympia Kebob House & Taverna | Saint Louis, MO | |
|
Olympia is an ok spot to grab a quick gyro. They also offer Greek coffee
and a number of other Greek specialties such as moussaka, dolmades,
and pastitsio. The interior approaches dive bar levels which would
be fine, but when they are charging more than $10 for most of their entrees
and the portions are small, I would appreciate a cleanup or a price drop.
The waitstaff was unfriendly and not very attentive. Friends of mine
who love Olympia and dine there often also confirm that the service
could use an improvement. The gyro is good, not great. But you can get
an equally good gyro elsewhere for less money and in a cleaner atmosphere.
Don't love it, don't hate it, try it and make up your own mind.

| Big Horn Mountain Barbecue | Omaha, NE | |
|
I've been trying out a variety of Omaha's local barbecue joints
for awhile now and this one is a hit. I ordered the combo plate of beef
brisket, featherbones, and a spare rib with hot bbq sauce. It was absolutely
delicious! The brisket had a nice pink smoke ring with great smoky flavor,
and everything was deliciously tender. I'd put this in Omaha's
top 3 for barbecue, I just can't wait to get back to try out the rest
of the menu.

| Rusty Nail Inn Lounge | Omaha, NE | |
|
While the description says barbecue, this place is actually a bar and
grill. The Rusty Nail is a no frills place thats great for grabbing a
couple cheap beers and one heck of a burger. Seriously, this burger
is the best I've had in Omaha, and at 6.75 with a full plate of crinkle
cut fries it's a steal. Just a warning, smoking is allowed here,
so if thats a problem you may want to stay away. Otherwise, if you can
brave a little smoke it's could be a great place.

| Sushi Ichiban Restaurant | Omaha, NE | |
|
Delicious not only for sushi and sashimi, but for other Japanese specialties
as well. In comparison to some of the other Japanese restaurants in
town, Sushi Ichiban/Sakura Bana is IMO, second only to Hiro in quality
of food, but far exceeds the others in value and atmosphere. Sakura
Bana is not pretentious is a great place to enjoy a meal. In addition
to their sushi and bento boxes, I particularly enjoy the Sukiyaki and
soups. If someone in your party is not a fan of sushi, rest assured that
options such as teriyaki steak/chicken are available and are excellent
as well. I've never had a bad meal here and it is by far my favorite
Japanese place in Omaha, give it a try and it just may be yours as well.

| Kimson Seafood Grill | Omaha, NE | |
|
A true surprise for those wanting to expand their tastes. Kimson offers
something for nearly everyone, whether you are new to Oriental food
or an experienced gourmet looking to expand your culinary horizons.
Kimson combines local Nebraska beef, fresh seafood, and Vietnamese
cooking styles to provide a truly unique dining experience. Some of
the favorites are the Vietnamese soups, especially Pho (pronounced
fuh) which is a large bowl of soup with thinly sliced beef, rice noodles,
and a delicious broth. Another mainstay are the Vietnamese curries,
grilled beef and pork, and hot pots. The decor is unique and welcoming.
If you are looking for a great lunch time place with excellent food and
great value, head to Kimson.

| King Kong | Omaha, NE | |
|
A unique Omaha fast food joint. If you're hungry for a quick burger,
philly, or gyro then King Kong may be the answer. Depending on your level
of hunger (and cholesterol levels) try the Kong Burger with 1-3 patties
of beef, cheese, and the option of bacon. Also unique is that King Kong
serves great gyros and greek salads if you're looking for something
quick but different. Just be sure to bring cash or use the ATM inside
the restaurant since they don't take plastic.

| Dundee Dell Fish & Chips | Omaha, NE | |
|
A taste of Omaha. Even though the location may have moved, the food is
the same. The Dell features delicious homemade soups, unique appetizers
(fried pickles), some of the best fish and chips I've had outside
of England, and an extremely impressive selection of beer, wine, and
spirits. If you are a fan of Scotch try the Dundee Dell which offers more
scotches than any other bar in the U.S.! The atmosphere is more bar than
grill, but if you want a place to enjoy a few drinks and grab a bite, look
no further.

| Indian Oven | Omaha, NE | |
|
Great Indian Food, terrible service. I've been to this restaurant
a couple of times now and its been the same story both visits. I'm
22, so I understand I'm a bit young but I like to be taken seriously
in restaurants and having been a waiter, I make sure to tip well. I don't
know if it was my age or if the service is just bad here, but my date and
I waited at least 15 minutes after seating to have our drink order taken,
and the meal took a good 35 minutes to arrive. The food was good, but I
think the prices reflect its Old Market location, not necessarily
the quality of the food. Personally, I'd rather take my business
to the Jaipur where I can get better food, better service, and homebrewed
beer for the same prices.

| Rice Bowl | Omaha, NE | |
|
If you haven't been to the rice bowl, go and go soon. It is delicious
Americanized Chinese food which is super fast and an amazing value.
I'm a Creighton student and this place is one of our favorites.
6 dollars will get you the entree of your choice (my favorite is yum yum
or peanut butter chicken) steamed or fried rice, 2 crab rangoons, and
a drink. Did I mention it's delicious? Next time you feel in the
mood for Oriental, go to Rice Bowl.

| Alpine Inn | Omaha, NE | |
|
Ok, people it is what it is, and the Alpine Inn is a quirky hole in the wall
with great, albeit greasy food. If you want some delicious fried chicken,
a couple of beers, and a bill that won't leave you broke then this
may be the place for you. Oh yeah, and they feed the leftovers to raccoons.
I find this funny/unique, others may find it offensive, but they are
probably members of PETA and don't count anyways. Give it a try.

| Mc Foster's Natural Kind Cafe | Omaha, NE | |
|
Quite possibly Omaha's most unique restaurant. Let's begin
with the building, I wasn't sure whether I was going to eat or if
I had just stepped into a J.R.R. Tolkien novel. Architecture aside,
I loved this place. The food was great, I had a guacamole appetizer,
the meatless hamburger, with seasoned french fries. AMAZING, I really
didn't miss the meat and I am as carnivorous as they come. The service
was excellent and I have been back on a number of occasions with the same
great experience. The restaurant is a bit small, but never crowded.
There is a bit of a hippy/bohemian feel to the place, but it is endearing
and unique. If you're in the mood for something different and healthy,
give McFosters a try.

| Fernando's On Pacific | Omaha, NE | |
|
Fernando's was a pleasant surprise for me. I had driven past the
place on a regular basis but only tried it just the other day. The enchiladas
I ordered were phenomenal and will keep me coming back. It is tex-mex
style, so if it is authentic Mexican you seek, you may want to visit elsewhere.
The only negative criticism I offer is that they don't serve chips
and salsa, I know its hokey but I love free appetizers.

| Caniglia's Venice Inn | Omaha, NE | |
|
I had heard great things about this restaurant only to be disappointed
once I finally went there. The food was o.k., I got a sampler of different
dishes but was not impressed by any of them. The pasta was overcooked
and the food was warm, not hot. The real highlight of the visit though
was hearing the manager yell at the busboy for breaking a plate for a
good couple of minutes. All in all, the only positive thing I took away
from my visit was their Sweet Sicilian Dressing, man that stuff is good.
All in all I haven't been back, I'd rather visit Italian restaurants
elsewhere.

| Olive Garden | Omaha, NE | |
|
What can I say that hasn't been said already about the Olive Garden.
It's a chain, I can eat at one in Los Angeles or here in Omaha and the
only thing that will change is the servers name. Not the best Italian,
not the worst, just mediocre. If you want Italian which you can't
get in every city of 90, 000 or more in the U.S. try a hometown favorite
like Vincenzo's or Lo Sole Mio. For those who prefer to stay on the
beaten path, well you know what you'll get.

||
| Smoke Pit BBQ & Lounge | Omaha, NE | |
|
O.K., the next person who tells me that Smoke Pit has "the best
ribs they've ever had" is going to get an education in BBQ.
The first time I went here I got my two favorite BBQ entrees, pulled pork
and beef brisket. Both of which were ho-hum at best. I've had supermarket
bought barbecue which was better than their offerings. When I told
a friend this they said, "Nah man, you gotta try the ribs."
Well I did, and they aren't any better. They are greasy and taste
almost fried or something, not tender, smoky, and succulent like they
should. If it is good BBQ you are after in Omaha then take the trip to Amarillo
in Bellevue or McKennas and avoid the disappointment you'll have
at Smoke Pit.

| California Tacos & More | Omaha, NE | |
|
I'm a Creighton student, so Cali taco is almost an institution
for me. While it's certainly not health food, Cali Taco is cheap,
delicious, and a fun place to be. For those who aren't familiar
with the "California Taco" it is a cruchy/chewy deep fried
shell filled with the meat of your choosing and resembles the chalupas
you would find at Taco Bell, but much better. If you're in the downtown/midtown
area in the afternoon, check out their happy hour from 4-5 everyday
for a couple of drinks and tacos at discounted prices.

||
| Greek Islands | Omaha, NE | |
|
Mmmmmm... Just thinking about this place gets me hungry. If you're
looking for the best gyros in town, look no further. Nearly everything
on this menu is unbeatable. I've enjoyed the chicken reganto,
Athenian salad, domalthes, souvlaki, and moussaka and many other
dishes countless times. This restaurant is family run and it shows.
Top quality food and friendly service is the standard at the Greek Islands.
Give this restaurant a try and I'm sure you'll love it.

||
| Hector's Restaurant | Omaha, NE | |
|
A great Mexican restaurant. Hector's is unique from other Mexican
restaurants since it stays away from greasy Mexican and emphasizes
fresh ingredients and seafood as part of the Baja style. While all the
traditional favorites (tacos, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas) can
be found on the menu, there are also some dishes which are unique. While
the idea of fish or shrimp tacos may seem odd at first, TRY THEM! If you're
looking for a cold drink be sure to try the San Diego Charger Margarita
or another drink special to quench your thirst. I cannot say enough
good things about this restaurant. My only word of warning is to arrive
early since weekends can bring waits of up to 30-45 minutes.

| Lo Sole Mio Ristorante | Omaha, NE | |
|
Hands down Omaha's best Italian.
Pros: Huge helpings, delicious Italian cuisine, excellent wine selection,
beautiful decor. Cons: Huge helpings, no reservations, cramped at times.
For some of the best pasta and Italian specialties in the Midwest make
a stop at Lo Sole Mio. Whenever I have relatives or friends in from out
of town, Lo Sole Mio is always on the list of places to take them. Delicious
food and prompt service make this place a gem. The bread with specially
seasoned olive oil, basil and tomato topping, and roasted garlic cloves
are worth the visit alone. If you love delicious salads, splurge for
the Thunderbird Salad which is decadent but amazing. Regardless of
other reviews, I have been to Lo Sole Mio at least a dozen times with each
visit being an overwhelmingly positive experience. If you love Italian
and are in Omaha, give it a try.
