| Portillo's Hot Dog's | Naperville, IL | |
|
A great alternative to fast food, expecially since they do have
an efficiant drive-up. The atmosphere is quaint, if a little
overdone. The cheesecake is awesome though!

| Hickory Park | Ames, IA | |
|
As a former employee of Hickory Park I can say that The food is excellent!
The price to quality ratio is very good. Hickory park serves everything
from chicken strips for the kids, to a full rack or ribs for dad.
portions are large and VERY filling, and soft-drinks are unlimited.
This is a Staple resturaunt for the Ames community.

| Great Plains Sauce & Dough Co | Ames, IA | |
|
DEFINATLY the best pizza joint in Ames, actually the best in Iowa
as far as I have tasted! The crust is homemade, the sauce is delicious,
and the toppings are generous. It may be more expensive than other
pizza places in Ames, so it's usually reserved for special
occasions. Over-all: AWESOME!

| Aunt Maude's | Ames, IA | |
|
This is considered the most expensive place in town. I don't
really think that it deserves it. I have eaten here a few times,
and every time I regret spending that much on what I got. I'm
not saying it's not good, it's just not THAT good.

| Flame & Skewer | Ames, IA | |
|
For what this place lacks in atmosphere, it makes up for with it's
Gyros. I consider myself a Gyro fanatic, and these are the best
in town next to the Gyro stand that appears on Welch ave. on friday
and saturday nights.

| La Fuente | Ames, IA | |
|
Fairly good mexican food for Ames area. Usually order food ala-cart,
it's pretty cheap that way. The atmosphere is mexican, not
exactly high class, but not bad at all. Grandma would probably
like this place.

||
| Wallaby's | Ames, IA | |
|
Personally I'm not a fan of this place. It's more expensive
than it is worth and don't usually go there unless I have to.
There is no really "specialty", just the basic burgers,
chicken and fish. I would suggest Okaboji grill on the other side
of town instead.

| Lucullan's Italian Grill | Ames, IA | |
|
Considered the best italian in town, I usually look forward to
going here. It's a little too expensive for me to eat all the
time, but it's good for dates. The help has always been really
friendly, and the deserts (chocolate bomb) is GOOD! One last
note, the downstairs is a rented hall, the actual resturaunt
is upstairs, stairs in the back.

| Battle's Bar-B-Q | Ames, IA | |
|
The smell eminating from this place makes one salivate. The food
is not fancy, but it is good. Some times I wish there was a little
more for the money, but I eat alot, so mabye I'm not the best
judge of portions. Usually packed at lunch, it's worth it
if you find yourself in the campustown area.

| Pizza Kitchens | Ames, IA | |
|
One of the better tasting pizza places in Ames, but not worth it.
The kettle pizza I ordered was soupy and not really worth the price.
I would have rather had a nice thick crust pepperoni from Great
Plains instead.

||
| Mandarin Chinese Restaurant | Ames, IA | |
|
Good chinese food for Ames. Moderatly priced and worth it, I like
to go here if I'm looking for something with a nicer atmosphere
than the cheap places in town. The crab rangoon (something i really
like) is a 7 out of 10, only rivaled by the rangoon at Cafe Escape
in Campus town.

| Perkins Family Restaurant and Bakery | Ames, IA | |
|
This is THE place to go when it's 2:30 at night and the bars
are closed. This is good for the younger crowd, but if you would
rather avoid drunk college students, avoid after 1:00 am. Otherwise
the food is good, the service is moderate and I would reccomend
it if you are passing through looking for something quick.

| Iowa Beef Steak House | Des Moines, IA | |
|
If your a lover of a good steak, I would tell you to check this place
out. It's a local staple for the residents of DesMoines looking
for a good steak. The prices are moderate for a good steak, and
you can get a little discount if you want to cook it yourself. Just
be carefull of the step down when going into the rear dining room,
it's claimed it's share of ankles.

| Christophers | Des Moines, IA | |
|
This is a very established restuaraunt in Des Moines and has a
reputation for good food. The soup is delightful, the salad is
very good and I would recommend it. The only thing Isee wrong is
that it can be a little dark at times.
|
||
| Raccoon River Brewing Co | Des Moines, IA | |
|
Tasty pub style food with moderatly good micro brewed beer. I
would say the prices are a little high for what you get.
|
||
| Court Avenue Brewing Co | Des Moines, IA | |
|
Along the same lines as Raccoon river rewing company, ecxept
in the center of the city. The only advantage I see is that there
is a nice pool hall area on the upper floor. Good place to go on a
date and play a little pool afterwards.

||
| Okaboji Grill | Ames, IA | |
|
In my opinion the best place to go for grill food. The seating is
limited, but usually I dont have a problem getting in. The service
is pretty fast and the servers are cute, what more could a man want?
|
||
| Prezelmaker | Ames, IA | |
|
average in-mall pretzel joint. Good and buttery food with decent
prices. If you have eaten at a pretxelmaker before, you know what
this place is like.
|
||
| Jimmy Johns | Ames, IA | |
|
Out of the sub places in ames, I have to say this is my second favorite.
Only trumped by Downtown Deli on main street, jimmyt johns is
a chain store that tastes better than a chain store. I always choose
this over subway.

||
| Cy's Roost & Don's Deli | Ames, IA | |
|
Cy's roost is newley opened and ready for the crowds again.
After closing down due to some Bar related legal issues, they
are back and better. The insides are nice, the food is good, and
once they get buck burgers back, they will be complete.
