Rose & Thistle Huntington, NY
The food here is nothing special, it's just available. The place is mostly for young people who use it as a watering hole after work. Friendly people & atmosphere.
Soundview Restaurant Greenport, NY
Although not much to look at from the outside as it is attached to a motel, going inside changes all that. If you are fortunate enough to be seated at a window the view is spectacular especially at sunset!. The fish here is good, the people very friendly, and it is more like a place in New England than on the Island. Do Not hesitate to stop here. You pass right by when you return are heading West from the Orient Point Ferry.
Shaker Inn Enfield, NH
Shaker Inn is right on the premises of Shaker Village. The food is very plain New England Cooking. The atmosphere is interesting and the menu does vary abit with the season.
Marshland Farms Quechee, VT
Marshfield Farms is especially nice off season...In the winter the fireplace is lit and if you need to wait for the restaurant to open or for your table you are invited to wait in their large living room which is filled with games and paintings. Drinks are served here if you would like them. During the summer cocktails etc.can be had on an outdoor patio. The food is always very good. The portions are small and the deserts are sometimes very interesting, and worth a try.
Wickers Hicksville, NY
Wickers is a store front in a strip mall, with a large party room downstairs and another one in the back. The food is good and the menu is varied but the prices are those of a better place. It really is set up like a diner on the inside with a bar which is usually full of people. If you get the right waitress you're OK but if you don't you can be there forever.
T R's Great American Corp Williston Park, NY
This nice little pub is generally jammed at the bar, but they do have a nice room upstairs which is actually a restaurant. They have a small variety on the menu but their steaks & Hambergers are really good. The waitresses are friendly & upbeat and they never rush you here. A good place to go with friend who want to sit around & talk as the upstairs is pretty quiet.
Giulio Cesare Restaurant Westbury, NY
We are often taken to this"fancy"restaurant which is as pretentious as you can get. Frankly I find it as phony as a $3 bill. The food is good, everything is a la carte and they try to direct what you order. One night 6 of us were at the table. One of the couples frequent the place often. The waiters never bothered to give us a menu just wanted to take our order. When one of the men asked for it we were given the menu and the waiter stood there and asked if we were ready to order about every 30 seconds. The known couple was bowed to and a fuss was made over them and the rest of us were basically ignored. As for their being fancy the bill certainly was!
Westbury Manor Westbury, NY
Westbury Manor is very pretty to look at when you drive up as the flower and front grounds are lovely. Too bad it all ends here. The service is pretty bad and food is acceptable (just average).Hardly what you would expect from the outside. The amazing thing is that the same owners own the Fox Hollow in Woodbury. The Westbury Manor really should take lessons in manners, food perparation, presentation, and how to treat customers from the Fox Hollow. The best thing I can think of to say about the Westbury Manor is don't judge the book by its cover.
Golden Coach Diner Restaurant Huntington, NY
This diner has been here awhile and has a hugh menu as do most diners. Their portions are large and the food is good. I particularly like the chefs salad...which is far to big to finish but crisp & fresh.
Celebrity Diner Syosset, NY
As with most diners the menu is large as are the portions. The food is good and fresh. Although this diner is quite large it is almost always crowded. It is kept fairly well, and costs abit more than some other diners in the area.Over a span of years I have been here numeerous times and they really haven't varied in the quantity or quality of the food.
Manero's Steak House Syosset, NY
This old steakhouse still has a good steak and trimmings as its menu and it probably the best thing there.Though they moved across the street to their present location I still prefer the old place with the sawdust on the floor...the atmosphere was much nicer there....My very favorite here is the gorgonzola cheese on their salad...not to be missed...along with their fries...
Village Hero Syosset, NY
The heros are great! If you decide to eat in or take it out doesn't matter just get one...each is better than the next so don't worry about what you choice, because for sure you will return.
Adirondack Grill Glen Cove, NY
This building is not much noteable from the outside, but when you walk in the door you are greeted with the delightful smell of cedar in the rustic interior. The people are friendly and the food is good.We have eaten Hunters Veal here, as well as steaks, Salmon and salads all are very good. The breads are a pleasant surprise and on Monday nights they have a fixed prix menu which includes an appetizer and desert & Coffee. Looking for something out of the ordinary give this place a try!
Henry's Confectionary & Luncheonette Glen Cove, NY
This is an old time luncheonette. They also sell home made candy here. The menu is a usual one but they still sell chocolate egg creams and the like. Service is fine, although a bit hectic at lunchtime. The food is plain but good.
Broadway Diner Hicksville, NY
As far as diners go this one is "Glitzy" with the miirrors etc.As for the food I don't think they can hold a candle to most of the ones just one town over. The parking lot is also hurendous.
Empire Diner Hicksville, NY
After having been closed for renovations for quite some time they reopened over a year ago. Service is quick here and if you order coffee here in the morning before you even decide what to have there is a small basket of mini muffins at your table...a very pleasant touch. I think because of there closeness to the Hicksville train station they are alittle higher priced than many other diners around, however the food is simple and good.
Maine Maid Inn Jericho, NY
This place has been sold about 3 times in the past 3-4 years. The old Inn is warm & friendly especially with its fireplaces going in the winter. The food however is inconsistant. There are things on the menu which look & sound good but should be left off the menu as they are cooked wrong or in some cases you are told they are unavailable. There help is another story. Start with Rude & illmannered... But add to that the inability to apologize when spilling food on a customer just goes beyond even that...Unless I return by accident or because I'm invited to an affair I doubt that I'll be back.
Bonwit Inn Commack, NY
Having had lunch here with a small crowd everyone found the place to their liking and was satisfied with the food. This old landmark has been here so long I somehow thought the food would be better than it actually was.. I had a seafood casserole which was fine. They don't seem to rush you out which is nice.
Village Way Port Jefferson, NY
As we use the ferry frequently the restaurants in Port Jeff have become a familiar place to us. The food here is fine, service is abit slower than you'd like, but as everyone is very nice you just accept it.
Steamroom Port Jefferson, NY
This fast food place is fine if everyone likes different things and you're not certain just how hungry you are, also a good place to take childre. The outside is not too clean looking but the tables have uusually been wiped down. My favorite here is clam chowder served in the center of a bread. It's plenty hot, full of clams and best of all you needn't order anything more until you've had that & decided you do. At some times of the year they serve 2 lobsters for not much more than 1.It has pretty good seafood but can't vouch for anything else.
