| Applebee's | Rego Park, NY | |
|
Can be a 4 star if you don't order mixed drinks here. Over the past
2 years service has gotten much better and the food is always done right.
There is now another one just 1/4 mile down the road in the Queens Center
Mall, but that one is poor, worse than the original rating I issued here.
Maybe it takes time to work out the bugs? As Applebee's go, this
one is a good one!

| Blue Bay Diner | Oakland Gardens, NY | |
|
Another update of a restaurant that has improved somewhat. For some
reason the Diner seemed to be in a slump for about 5 years or so, but this
year everything has improved from the service to the food. A new cook
perhaps? Try it, it's one of the better diners in the neighborhood.

| The Gilded Otter | New Paltz, NY | |
|
Okay, it has gotten better, a lot better. Maybe we had caught them on
a bad day the first time since it was so uber busy. This time it was just
very crowded. The menu was pretty much the same as the first time and
the second time, but we were all happy this time as it all came to us as
we wanted. Very much a cross between updated traditional and nouveau
with decent portions.

| College Diner | New Paltz, NY | |
|
Time heals all wounds? This has become better than the plaza diner.
If your in New Paltz and a diner is what you want go here. You won't
be disappointed. Very Veggie friendly, but so is all of New Paltz.

||
| Santa Fe Steakhouse | Forest Hills, NY | |
|
Another update from me. Santa Fe is still good, but I won't say great
anymore. Always a risk with chains. The food hasn't really changed,
but somehow only the bread which is a combination of pumpernickle and
white stands out. Everything else is very good including the steaks,
which used to be outstanding.

| Niederstein's Restaurant | Middle Village, NY | |
|
It's now an arby's! A Landmark for a century, and now it's
an arby's. I love arby's, but not that much!

| Pop Diner | Elmhurst, NY | |
|
An update on this restaurant. It's getting better. The menu
is much larger, the average price is really 10 to 20 dollars. The
dinners are all ala carte with dessert and beverage always additional.
You get soup or salad. The food though was good and the service
very good. Friendly people, they are now on the right path. The
menu is more exotic than the standard diner. There are several
themes such as latin based food and asian food, so they are catering
to the neighborhood. Prices have come down about 40% over our
original visit. We'll try it again in a few months.

| T Bone Diner | Forest Hills, NY | |
|
This diner has been featured at one point on unsolved mysteries.
The food is good, the menu huge. Typical diner where they make
you wonder how they do it. We had pork and lamb, and both were good.

| The Olive Garden | Westbury, NY | |
|
Another updated entry. The service has been vastly improved
and the menu is diet friendly! The soup is an unending bowl as is
the salad, but the food has been improved a lot. They had a wine
tasting in the lobby and it helped us decide to choose a wine for
the evening meal. I was impressed at the upgrades and it will help
me go back to this chain with renewed appreciation.

| Rouge | Forest Hills, NY | |
|
Ordinarily, I subtract a star if the restaurant is pricey, but
the service at Rouge along with superior food gets the place their
well earned 5 star rating. First, you have a choice of salads.
(Everything is ala carte) The endive salad with a toasted goat
cheese disc on the center of the dish gives an extra boost of flavor
and makes the dish special. Salads are priced from $6 and go to
$11, so you may get the idea this wont be an inexpensive meal. There
is the obligatory French Onion soup and a soup of the day ($7 and
$6 respectively) as well as several warm appetizers. The main
courses range between $16 and $26 dollars and they all seemed
worth the cost, especially after having eaten them. A special
of the day was Boulliabase which was priced at $24. There is salmon
and "red fish", Lamb Chops that are prepared as two
double rib pieces that are pushed down toward the end to resemble
a drum stick. Filet Mignon is the most expensive dish at $26, Pork
Loin, etc. In French cookery, sauces are important and must be
expertly prepared. From the looks of what we saw and the tastes
from what we had, everything here is prepared with a high level
of expertise. The wine list is large, but not overly large and
there is a $12 "flight" where you can sample either
4 reds or 4 whites. Dessert had everything you would expect from
Creme Broullez to Mousse to a chocolate Torte to the traditional
French Cheese ending. The cheeses I had were Goat cheese (excellent)
Brie (I've never had a bad brie) but the winner was the camembert
with a smooth delicate flavor. The only item that was not at the
top of the list was the bread which was very ordinary and not what
I would consider very French, although it was obviously French
Bread. Lastly, expert service that will totally enhance you
dining experience. The recommendation on the wine selection
was excellent and not based on price. Extremely polite service
and never having to look for your waiter help too. We learned that
our waiter had a favorite dessert, the peaches and creme (simple
explanation) did it for him. You can spend $100 a couple easy and
you can get it to double that depending on how much you eat, but
it will be worth every penney if you are looking for a gastronomic
delight.

| La Tavernetta Ii | Fresh Meadows, NY | |
|
There are 2 versions of this restaurant. The first one is in Glendale
and is supposed to be better. This one, is more charming, has more
room between tables, and has music on saturdays nights. As far
as the food goes, there is nothing to complain about! The menu
is a beautiful melange of chicken, beef, fish, and veal dishes.
High quality, high caliber cooking. Everything is customizable,
and the desire to please includes having a hero section on the
menu so if you want to eat upscale or regular, everyone in your
party can be accomodated. The salads are large, the desserts
tasty and the coffee and tea are never ending and of good quality.
In an area that has a lot of competition, this restaurant which
has only been opened for a short while should do very well unless
it's location somehow does it in. But as it is a cross from
a new complex with Barnes and Noble, and cold stone creamery,
just to name a couple, this eatery should soar as time goes on.
Personally, the veal dishes were phenominal! Also, a full bar
and good wine list with both Italian and California wines on the
menu.

| Popeyes | Jamaica, NY | |
|
What? You've never been to Popeye's? If you like a taste
of new orleans or just like spicy food, go here. Cajun specialties
including andouie sausage in their dirty rice, spicy fried chicken,
spicy fries, Jambalaya if you hit it right, yes this can be the
kind of place to go if you like this kind of food. I do. One warning,
watch the menu. One of the few fats food places where ordering
ala carte is usually less expensive than a combo! Also, don't
ever get that extra piece of chicken. They charge for a breast
and give you a wing. It seems to be something in the chain.

| Tony's Topwn Square At Disney's Magic Kindom ... | Orlando, FL | |
|
Maybe Russell went for lunch. I went for dinner with my daughter
who is a vegeterian. I'm a carnivore. We both left more than
happy. Disney service usually rates 5 stars anyway, but I usually
take one away for price. Meatballs and spaghetti for $14 is a bit
high, but our dishes were worth every penney we paid. My daughter
had an eggplant dish that literally melted in your mouth. She
preceeded that with a tomatoe bisque soup. Both were absolutely
excellent. I had minestrone soup that was good, but not as special
as hers. My dish though was obscenely fantastic! It was a salmon
filet over orzo that had a light sauce. The flavor was made in heaven!
Some items on the menu are pricey, but in general I believe you
will find you get what you pay for especially after looking at
the other people in the restaurant enjoying their dishes with
equal gusto as my own!

| Abc Commissary At Disney's Mgm Studios Park | Orlando, FL | |
|
Russell seems to have used a formula that makes every restaurant
he went to seem the same. His prices are inflated for this place.
The food although different including marinated tomatoes,
a mid eastern syle wrap, and other unique things didn't appeal
to my kids, so they watched as we ate (my kids are 19 and 15) It's
okay for "fast food" that is definitely diferent,
although you can get a burger there too! My meal was based on a lunch
experience.

| Le Cellier Steakhouse | Orlando, FL | |
|
This is based on 4 dinners, one which was kinda runined, but I'll
get into it. They ket starter here is the cheddar cheese soup which
is made with moosehead beer, and is very tasty. My veggie daughter
ordered one of the veggie dishes on the menu (they had a couple)
and was delighted with the flavor, aroma, and presentation.
I ordered the "Le Cellier" which is a filet mignon
over a wild rice risotto. On the negative side I ordered it medium,
it came in well done, but was still very tasty. My wife ordered
a Filet Mignon medium well and it came in very rare. It had bar-b-que
sauce on it. A lot of it. If you like Bar B Q it's fine. My son
ordered a chicken dish with a nice hunter style sauce on it. My
son had my dish, my wife the chicken and I had my wifes dish. Even
though they blew the wellness of the meat, the falvors remained
high and it was still enjoyable. My daughetr and I thought it deserved
5 stars, my son 3 and my wife 2, so we gave it an overall of 4, but be
forewarned about the kitchen! Service was exceptional. I had
a desert of a citrus mousse (sugar free) the was almost too good!

||
| Rainforest Cafe | Orlando, FL | |
|
My kids went here. My 19 tear old daughter was very disgruntled
at everything from the service to their location (next to the
kitchen and they bumped her chair 7 times after she started noticing
it) to the food. My son liked his better, and ended with the volcano,
a desert for 4 he tried to do in by himself. He was happy, but after
listening to their joint stories, a 2 star will do

| Stop 20 Diner | Elmont, NY | |
|
Been going to this dinner for almost 30 years, off and on. This
is one of the dinners that sets the standard. Good prices, lots
of good food, and everything you've ever had seems to be on
the menu. Service is very professional, although you hardly
ever see anyone very young working here. I think they must keep
their people forever! In the neighborhood? Go here for breakfast,
lunch or dinner!

| Centurian Pizza Plaza | Garden City, NY | |
|
How can an everyday Pizza place/Italian restaurant be this good?
You have to go there to find out. Innovative at times, but always
absolutely delicious! Rocco makes his own sauce and sells it,
but you have to be lucky enough to get their before the supply runs
out. You'll wonder why he isn't in a better location
with white linen service. He's been challenged for years
but always beats them back! Family owned and operated, this place
truly has the love of the community

||
| Nick's Lobster Fish Market | Brooklyn, NY | |
|
First, we need a different category for average price. It's
actually $10 to $20. First thing in any restaurant is the atmosphere.
Here it is either inside or outside seating. In either case, it's
warm and inviting. For me, the very large porch overlooking an
inlet with the boats docked or moving about slowly as they make
their way to and from the Atlantic Ocean was calmong and relaxing.
Next, the five star service with our waitress being so aware of
what we were ordering she asked "would that mean I don't
need a bread basket for this table?" It's that kind
of attention to detail. As we waited for our order to be precessed,
a look at other tables showed huge portions, happy faces of all
ages and many doggie bags being given. I opted for the Fishermans
platter, a grilled plate with four different kinds of seafood.
All were broiled in olive oil with a touch of garlic. The shrimp
were actually a tad overdone and the scallops were so so, but the
salmon was very good and the Filet of Sole was Magnificent! Most
people seem to order fried fish here, and of course they have some
non fish items on the menu. Just asking people their opions, this
is a beloved place to eat. There is also a decent wine selection
and if you have room for desert, go for it!

| Pop Diner | Elmhurst, NY | |
|
I really wante to give this place a better rating, but there are
several things wrong with it. One is that it appears the owners
are trying to get their money back as quickly as possible. Although
I used the average price as 10 to 15, it could have been 10 to 20.
The menu is brief. Those of you expecting a typical diner will
be as disappointed as we were. My daughter is a vegaterian, and
there wasn't much for here to eat, so she had a grilled cheese
sandwich. It costs less at the USTA during the US Tennis Open,
and they are known for overblown prices. As with the previous
reviewer, the service was really good, but that can't make
up for the many flaws of this establishment. In my family, I had
the only good meal, which was a chicken Thai salad. Go here at your
own risk, and bring plenty of cash!
