| Tony Roma's | Salt Lake City, UT | |
|
What's sad is that as mediocre as this place is, there still aren't
ribs in SLC that are much better (at least, that I've found). Tony
Roma's isn't real BBQ, but it's consistent, decent,
and you get adequate service in a pleasant enough environment.

| Wingers | Bountiful, UT | |
|
I was surprised by how decent this was. I think it's best to stick
with the simple dishes, especially the wings. It's still just
a chain, though. The steak, eg, is relatively chewy. Just get the wings.

| Rodizio | Salt Lake City, UT | |
|
A much better value than many of the big churrascaria chains. Some of
those have a better selection of meats and better quality of meats,
but the stuff here is pretty good. The "salad" bar has plenty
of interesting stuff, too, but those items will only save the restaurant
money while you pass up the good stuff. I like to ask for extra pineapple
and eat some with every bite of meat. It cuts through the richness, too.

| Red Iguana | Salt Lake City, UT | |
|
Easily the best Mexican I've had in Utah. Interesting menu has
lots of tasty moles and other unusual authentic dishes. There's
also a mix of Tex-Mex on the menu and those items are good as well, even
things like nachos. There can be a bit of a wait, but it's worth it.

| El Azteca | Provo, UT | |
|
Really solid Mexican-American food for cheap. This is the type of place
that should make Taco Bell go out of business, but unfortunately doesn't.
Very nice chips and salsa. Love the crisp tacos.

| Blue Iguana | Salt Lake City, UT | |
|
Very similar menu to the Red Iguana. Food is close in quality, but not
quite as good or consistent. However, that still makes them better
and more interesting than most other Mexican places in SLC. A bit more
convenient location than the Red Iguana, too.

| Cafe Rio | Midvale, UT | |
|
Decent chain-style Mexican-American for those who like something
safe, but still have an ability to discern good from bad. Better than
Chipotle, but not really anything special.

| Bombay House | Provo, UT | |
|
For a town with only one Indian restaurant and not a lot of good restaurants,
this place is surprisingly decent. The freshness quotient could certainly
be raised on many items, but rarely is there anything bad. Perfect spot
for a BYU student looking for something outside the typical fast food
and pizza that's all around, but still doesn't want to break
the bank.

| Mcdonalds | Ogden, UT | |
|
This is what's sad about Utah -- the dominance of chains. McDonald's
is about as bad as food gets, but people go there because it's cheap
and easy. Their shakes are pretty bad, tasting almost chemically.
Go to the store, buy a half gallon of decent ice cream, and make your own.
A world better.

| Outback Steakhouse | Orem, UT | |
|
I generally avoid chains, but sadly, in Provo-Orem, this is one of the
best restaurants. I keep trying the others and at this price point,
it's hard to do better in Provo-Orem except if you get ethnic food
like Mexican. The steaks are over-rated but still worth their price.
The bloomin onion is a total gimmick. Skip it. The cheese fries are soggy.

| Cracker Barrel | Salt Lake City, UT | |
|
Oh, goodness. I finally went here on a recommendation for breakfast
and it was absolutely horrendous. The ham was tough. The potatoes were
mushy and cold. The gravy was like thick glue. Everything was flavorless.
The only thing worth eating were the eggs, surprisingly cooked as I
asked. They just needed some salt and pepper. I'd rather go to Denny's.

| Udupi Palace | Chicago, IL | |
|
Very solid south Indian restaurant among many Indian restaurants
on Devon. The thalis are an especially good way to try several dishes.
I didn't find the dishes especially spicy, though.
|
||
| Sher-a-Punjab | Chicago, IL | |
|
Decent buffet that emphasizes the northern Indian/Pakistani dishes
most of us are familiar with. While it's not bad, next to all the
other places on Devon is seems mediocre.

||
| Spoon Thai Restuarant | Chicago, IL | |
|
If you order off the specials menu or the Thai language menu (there are
translations) you can get very interesting food that's better
prepared than the rest. Typical dishes can be too typical, though.
|
||
| P S Bankok Restaurant | Chicago, IL | |
|
Entirely typical. There's nothing here that isn't somewhere
better. Menu has all the basic dishes, pad thai, curries, satay, stuff
like that, and done just well enough to not be objectionable.

| Malnati's Lou Pizzeria Restaurants | Chicago, IL | |
|
Now I know why people call pizzas "pies". Get the butter
crust, which is more like a pastry crust than a NY pizza crust. A sausage
pizza has an entire layer of the sausage. Sauce is a little blah, but
still good. Skip the salads. Be warned of LOOOOOOONG lines.

| Gary Danko | San Francisco, CA | |
|
One of the best fine dining deals in the country. You get a meal that would
cost $125 and up elsewhere and the food is superb. My one complaint is
that it's at a busy intersection and whenever the door opens there's
a lot of noise. But service and food is terrific. Ask for a tour of the
kitchen.

||
| Udupi Palace | Sunnyvale, CA | |
|
One of the better southern Indian restaurants in the bay area, though
there are places I like more in Silicon Valley. There are so many restaurants
named Udupi Palace, I do wonder if they're all the same. K&B
obviously doesn't know the difference between southern and northern
places. These cafeteria style places get food out hot and quick and
cheap.

||
| Amber India Restaurant | Mountain View, CA | |
|
Okay, this is an odd review because I haven't actually been to this
location, but I've been to their other two locations which aren't
in the DB, the upscale Amber and the downscale cafe. The upscale place
in Santana Row is excellent. Everything perfectly prepared and a great
ambience. The cafe is crappy. The flavors are muddled and poorly executed.

||
| Greek Cuisina | Portland, OR | |
|
I can only think that the people praising this place were falling down
drunk and can only remember the good time they had. Portland's
Greek food isn't especially good as it is, but this place is one
of the worst. The best thing about it is the big octopus on the outside
of the restaurant.
