Grady's American Grill Austin, TX
Grady's is located off 183 in the Arboreteum Area.
Since this is a chain restraunt, I don't think it deserves a raiting above 3 since it is not unique to Austin. There are Grady's restraunts in most of the major metropolitan areas in Texas and probably accross the country.
Service here is excellent.
The atmosphere is a level above TGIF... probably closer to the Houston's chain.... Hungry Hunter... etc.
The selection is typical of a steak house style restraunt... with more meat/steak based dishes than chicken or seafood dishes.
Wide selection of mixed drinks if you are looking for something to take the edge off the work day.
Good selection of desserts.
Z Tejas Grill Austin, TX
pricey for tex mex in Austin especially when comparing this restraunt to Chuy's or more closely to Iron Cactus
the restraunt has two locations i know of in Austin one in the 6th street area and another in the arboretum area
i've heard this restraunt is a chain and that they have locations all over the western united states
the food is more southwestern US style than tex mex... you won't find any refried beans here... so if you are into the "California" interpertation of tex mex this is your place
one thing... the view at least in the Arboretum Location is spectactular... great canyon views.
POK-E-JOE'S Smokehouse Austin, TX
Sort of bland...
the BBQ sauce lacks flavor,
and the meats lack taste and tenderness...
Pretty average and more expected from a national bbq chain.
Kerbey Lane Cafe Austin, TX
I've had mixed experiences with Kerby Lane...
most of my fond dining experiences at Kerby Lane are at the Kerby Lane location.... and particularly late at night. very college coffee house atmosphere ... busy... and filled with life.
i did go to the location in South Austin and had a not so good experience. this was for sunday brunch... it was extremely busy and the wait was over an hour... when seated.... it took an awfully long time for them to get to our table... and that was just for the drink order... we ordered orange juice... and they proceeded to serve the next table who had just seated immediatly... in all this left a very sour impression and i have not dined at Kerby Lane since.
Brick Oven Restaurant Austin, TX
several locations in Austin... like all restraunts in town they strategically have a north, central, and south location.
compared to mezzaluna and other chain italian restraunts in the area, the food here doesn't rank high.
i've only tried the pasta dishes so i can't say how good the pizza dishes are here. what i can say is that the food is slightly oily... if you aren't into eating oily foods this may be a problem.
service here is pretty good and prompt.
Hwa Yuan Chinese Restaurant Austin, TX
this restraunt is slightly above average when ranked with the other chinese buffet style restraunts off the 183 corridor. the food here is pretty cheap and they tend not to skimp on the ingredients. As for taste they do season their dishes more than other restraunts that seem to think Austinites aren't ready for more authentic tasting dishes. Sadly, many of us have come from other metropolitan areas where Chinese restraunts compete for authenticity and so the food here leaves something to be desired.
Kyoto II Restaurant Austin, TX
This was Austin's Best Sushi Restraunt before several sushi houses and Korean restraunts started opening up in town.
The sushi here is pricey and not as fresh as the competition; the packaged sushi you can get in the Seafood section at HEB is more flavorfull...
this might be different at the downtown location; but i have yet to try the location on 6th street.
Joe's Crab Shack Austin, TX
This location is pretty busy during the evenings since it shares the parking lot with nearby Chuy's.
As for seafood, it ranks average with chain restaunts like Red Lobster.
Service here is excellent...
They've sort of made the interior specific to Austin with lots of UT and Central Texas memrobilia.
In all a fun place.
