| Fireside Diner Restaurant Corp | Clifton, NJ | |
|
Classic Diner Fare!
<br>
The menu runs from burgers and fries to liver and onions!
<br>
Large portions and a great selection, but save room for Dessert.
As with any reputable diner, the Fireside has an impressive dessert
selection. It varies occasionally, but there are always loads
of pies and cream puffs to select from.
<br>
It might be a touch pricey, but considering the portions, etc.
I am sure you'll find it worth it.

| Rutt's Hut | Clifton, NJ | |
|
Environment - 70's wood veneer paneling, and the feeling
that you are in a church basement or a VFW Hall BUT!
<br>
If you love classice bad-for-you hot dogs, this is THE place.
<br>
Don't even think about what the kitchen looks like, just
enjoy these excellent dogs.
<br>
There are Texas Wieners in many places nearby, but for less flash
and better dogs, Rutt's Hutt is the place.

| Bethwood Restaurant | Totowa, NJ | |
|
My wedding reception was held at the Bethwood, and I cannot recommend
a place any higher.
<br>
The striking architecture is the first thing you'll notice,
along with the twinkling lights in the walking garden alongside
the main building. One thing that I appreciated was the fact that
the Bethwood does not feel WEDGED between other business like
many other banquest facilities.
<br>
Inside, the atmosphere is still a little 70'/80's,
but I believe that is by design.
<br>
The staff, especially the planners, are TOP NOTCH. Super attentive
and willing to go the extra mile for whatever you need.
<br>
Sure, it's a little expensive, but they do their best to give
a classy experience...not bagel bites and pigs-in-a-blanket
as appetizers.
<br>
Considering a wedding reception? This is THE place.

| Schmidt's Restaurants & Ctrng | Columbus, OH | |
|
Schmidt's is German food at it's best. A great selection
of German foods and beers make for a nice German experience.
<br>
Try the Pretzel Bites with some of their sweet mustard... absolutely
to die for!
<br>
They also serve excellent creme puffs. My only complaint is they
are served cold. I'd prefer them at room temperature or warm,
but that's me.
<br>
Parking is a bit tough at busy times, but try parking a few blocks
away and walking. The neighborhood is a very quaint, historic
one.
<br>
Schmidt's also has a small store across the street, where
you can get candies, etc.
<br>
All in all, a nice evening out.
|
||
| Chipotle Mexican Grill | Columbus, OH | |
|
Not meaning to sound negative, but Chipotle is little more than
a glorified, yuppie Taco Bell.
<br>
Meat, rice, salsa, lettuce, etc. in a tortilla. Same thing Taco
Bell serves, BUT the quality is definitely higher.
<br>
A little expensive, but very filling, so it's probably worth
the money.
<br>
For a change of pace and a trendy environment, Chipotel makes
a decent lunch or late night snack.
|
||
| Barbecue Lodge | Raleigh, NC | |
|
Atmosphere... nah! Paper napkins and melamine plates.
<br>
But if you are interested in good Eastern NC country cooking at
an affordable price, Barbecue Lodge is a great place.
<br>
Try take out for tailgating, picnics or after church.
<br>
Great Brunswick stew and pulled pork BBQ.
|
||
| Griff's Steak Barn | Wilson, NC | |
|
Great Sunday Lunch Buffet.
<br>
A bit pricey for the buffet, but if you can put away food, this is
THE place.
<br>
Excellent dessert bar with a wide variety of homemade desserts.
<br>
The beef and barley soup is also a treat, when available.
|
||
| Silver Lake Seafood Restaurant | Wilson, NC | |
|
Great calabash style seafood. If you like it fried, Silver Lake
is a little bit of the coast, 2 hours inland.
<br>
Situated on Silver Lake (go figure) the back of the restaurant
overlooks the dam and the falls.
<br>
Take the little ones out onto the deck and feed ducks, gees, fish
and the slews of turtles.
<br>
Try the buffalo shrimp...they'll fill you up quickly, so
don't order too many.

||
| Anchor Inn Restaurant & Lounge | Morehead City, NC | |
|
This will be the Anchor Inn's first review, AND my first negative
review.
<br>
Attached to a Quality Inn, the Anchor Inn serves typical restaurant
fare at so-so prices.
<br>
So, what's my beef with it? The owner's desire to make
money over satisfying clients.
<br>
Example:
<br>
3 Egg Omelette...$5.99
3 Egg Omelette, but have them hold one egg...-$.25
3 Egg Omelette, but have them ADD one egg...+$.75
1 egg for a two year old...$2.99
<br>
Yes, our party of 7 did order each of these and had we known the price
of the single egg, we would have just hacked a bit off of an omelette.
The owner, when asked if we could cut us some sort of discount,
simply responded... "That's the price on the menu"
<br>
I know it is only $2.99, but the owner's rudeness and complete
lack of consideration for our $90.00 tab just soured this place
for me.

| Wildflour Boston Pizza | Raleigh, NC | |
|
I cannot honestly say I have ever had their Pizza, but the menu
goes far beyond Pizza.
<br>
My favorite is the Tuna Melt and the cheesecake.
<br>
Small restaurante with a decent atmosphere.
<br>
It's great little place for lunch.
|
||
| Char-Grill | Raleigh, NC | |
|
I am giving Char-Grill 4 stars even if it is just a burger joint!
<br>
The best burgers on earth! Crispy, smokey, fire grilled burgers!
<br>
Great shakes and Fries too!
<br>
The only drawback here is having to wait outside for your food.
On a rainy day, you either have to call ahead or go without... much
sadness.
<br>
Just plain Great!

| Char Grill 4 | Raleigh, NC | |
|
I am giving Char-Grill 4 stars even if it is just a burger joint!
<br>
The best burgers on earth! Crispy, smokey, fire grilled burgers!
<br>
Great shakes and Fries too!
<br>
Char_Grill 4 has a step up on the other Char-Grills. You don't
have to wait outside for your food. A small eating areas for 30
people or so saves you from the elements. Even if you do sacrifice
the nostalgia of the original.
<br>
Just plain Great!
|
||
| Raleighwood Cinema Grille | Raleigh, NC | |
|
A nifty little place where you can see Dinner and a movie in the
same seats.
<br>
About 30-45 minutes before the movie starts, diners are allowed
into the theatre and seated at tables. Their orders are taken
and their food delivered shortly before the movie. Then the wait
staff is pretty inconspicuous during the movie, out of consideration.
<br>
The menu is basic burgers, chicken fingers, etc. but how big can
the kitchen really be in a converted 2 screen theatre.
<br>
Also, Monday Night Football is another bonus. Free admission
for that!
<br>
A nice night out.
|
||
| Imperial Garden | Raleigh, NC | |
|
Possibly the best Chinese in Raleigh.
<br>
Great owners, great embience, great food and as many rice crunchies
as you can eat.
<br>
Nothing I have ever had here has been sub-par. I am especially
fond of the steamed dumplings. You have to wait a few minutes for
them, but it's worth it.
<br>
Excellent!
|
||
| Safari Grille | Wake Forest, NC | |
|
Interesting atmosphere, but a deathnail location. Located
on a back road, away from the main flow of traffic, I am quite surprised
they have survived this long.
<br>
The menu is good. They even have Alligator Bites! Small batter-fried
bits of Alligator, and they are actually quite tasty... and yes
it does taste a lot like chicken.
<br>
Visit while you can before this little shop goes the way of the
dinosaur.
|
||
| Smithfield's Chicken 'n Bar-Bq | Zebulon, NC | |
|
The staple fast food, Eastern NC BBQ restuarant.
<br>
It's amazing they can put out as many slow cooked pigs as they
do each and every day.
<br>
A BBQ sandwich + some Brunswick stew (awesome) + hushpuppies
+ banana pudding = great Sunday meal.
<br>
And sweet tea to die for!
<br>
it might be a touch pricey for fast food, but consideriung what
you get, it's worht it.
|
||
| Biltmore Dairy Bar | Asheville, NC | |
|
Ultra nostalgia for me here.
<br>
Haviong been raised in Asheville, I remember when the Biltmore
Estate raised cows and had a dairy. The Dairy Bar is the last remnant
of this time.
<br>
The Dairy closed sometime in the 80's, but the dairy bar remained,
getting updated several times since.
<br>
Still the feel of a classic ice cream shoppe, it's a great
family stop on a hot summer day.
|
||
| Pepper's Pizza | Chapel Hill, NC | |
|
Peppers is the ecclectic coffee shop of Pizza parlors. Local
artwork often dots the walls and the mood is definitely college
bohemian.
<br>
The food... Thin, soft crust pizza with Pepper's unique
tomato sauce. Just a hint of peppery spice makes the sauce come
alive.
<br>
We regularly drive the 30 miles just for the Geddy Lee (Artichoke
Hearts and Sundried Tomatoes) and a pitcher of Bass Ale. EXCELLENT!
<br>
I cannot praise a pizza joint any higher.
|
||
| Pita Pit | Chapel Hill, NC | |
|
Pita Pit is a great little spot. Very basic food, ala Subway, but
without the funky (although not offensive) flavor all Subway
subs seem to have.
<br>
The grilled Tuna Pita is a personal favorite. They toss the equivalent
of a can of tuna onto the grill as they prepare your "pocket".
Once grilled it goes into the Pita nice and hot. Great Stuff!
<br>
The Vegetarian possibles also abound with veggies, hummus,
etc.
<br>
Great little alternative to the typical Fast Food or Sub shop.
|
||
| Angus Barn Ltd | Raleigh, NC | |
|
Does steak get any better?
<br>
The environment is akin to Log Cabin meets Dairy Farm meets The
Ritz. A bit on the p[ricey side, it cannot be a "regular"
event, but it is worth visiting at every opportunity.
<br>
The Filet Mignon, when cooked medium rare, will present the gentleman
diners a very familiar experience, if they just close their eyes
and allow the mind to wander. ;)
<br>
Yes, it is that good!
<br>
Awesome steak..simply awesome!
