Bella Nina's Ristorante Tacoma, WA
Wonderful little Italian place! Very friendly staff, great atmosphere, wonderful food. This place has been around a while but I only went there for the first time a year ago. It's hardly ever crowded except on holidays. Try the Ravioli Besciamella and finish off your meal with some spumoni or cheesecake... delicious!
India Mahal University Place, WA
Three words: excellent, excellent, excellent! Best Indian food I've ever had. Generous portions, friendly staff, hardly ever crowded. The atmosphere doesn't feel Indian though... feels like you're eating in your mom's kitchen, but the food makes up for it. My favorite dish is the Gosht Vindaloo. If you're not one for lamb, try the Chicken Vindaloo. The Garlic Naan is also delicious. But beware, even the "mild" level of spice sets my mouth on fire so if you're sensitive to that make sure to tell the waiter.
Buca De Beppo Lynnwood, WA
Delicious! One of my favorite restaurants ever! Dinner is served family-style which means everyone shares a couple of dishes. You always leave with grocery bags full of food left over. The atmosphere is very informal, lots of fun for a birthday or other small party. If you can get reservations in advance, sit at the kitchen table because then you get to see how all the food is made and you get to preview all the meals before they are ushered out to the tables.
Hooters Restaurant Lynnwood, WA
A couple of years ago I let my then-boyfriend drag me here for dinner... big mistake. The food was not good, the service was poor, the prices were too high, even the seating was uncomfortable. Not a good experience at all. The best thing I got out of it is that I can say I've been to Hooters.
Pine Cone Cafe University Place, WA
Very good homestyle food. Excellent salad bar, friendly staff. They also make excellent breakfast food.
Toro Viejo Post Falls, ID
They make AWESOME carne asada burritos. Especially good if you go there on a day when it's on special, so you get a good price.
Zoopa Tacoma, WA
Buffet style American-Italian food. Prices are pretty cheap, but you get what you pay for. The food tends to be oily and a little dried out from sitting out. Huge salad bar, but not a very big selection of pastas or sauces.
Ginza Teriyaki University Place, WA
Wonderful Teriyaki place. They have recently added a limited Chinese food selection to their menu but I have not tried any of those dishes yet. The portions are generous and the food is absolutely delicious. The Gyoza is great to start with and my favorite entree is the Teriyaki Chicken and Tonkatsu Combo. They have a $3.99 Teriyaki Chicken lunch special which is great value for your money. They staff is very friendly. Sometimes it can get a little crowded right around the typical meal times so it might be best to call ahead and get take-out. Closed on Sundays.
Steamer's Seafood Cafe Tacoma, WA
Nice little seafood place on Titlow Beach. Good clam strips and fish & chips. Also good clam chowder. Nice place for a date, as you can take a walk and watch the sunset on Titlow Beach afterward.
Taqueria El Sabroso Lakewood, WA
Awesome taco stand in near the 512 entrance. Looks like only a walk-up place but you can actually go around to the back and sit inside. They make great burritos with big chunks of avocado and cilantro. Good prices and friendly staff also. The one thing this place is missing is nachos.
Tacos Guaymas Tacoma, WA
Good Mexican place near Tacoma Mall. HUGE nacho plate... it would take 4 people to finish that thing. Great prawn quesadillas, although somewhat oily because of the cheese. Good fresh made guacamole. The staff is not always friendly though.
Country Baked Hams Tacoma, WA
Delicious deli sandwiches. Try the Colossal and the quiche. Some of their things tend to be overpriced, like the sodas and especially their hams and party platters. You always get Tim's Cascade chips (which I don't like) and a pickle spear with your sandwich.
Viafore's Italian Delicatessen Tacoma, WA
Great deli in Fircrest. Family owned and operated. Delicious deli sandwiches, reasonably priced. Also check out their frozen entrees in the freezers on the other side of the shop from the check out counter. We got 4 Chicken Parmigiana Breasts for $7.50 and they were outstanding. They also do catering.
Sakura Japanese Steak House Tacoma, WA
Very very good! This is American-style Japanese food. You sit next to other parties in a U-shaped formation, all facing a grill and your chef cooks all your food right in front of you. It's a really fun place to go with great food. The shrimp is excellent. Also, make sure you try some of the orange sauce. I have no idea what it is but it's good on everything, even the bean sprouts!
Burger Express University Place, WA
Great restaurant-style burgers. Lots of different types to choose from. My favorite is the Western Burger. The Boz burger is HUGE. I don't really like their fries but they have good milkshakes.
H D Hotspurs Kent, WA
Great BBQ, fun atmosphere. There are a few different types of BBQ sauce to choose from but I've only tried one. The ribs are awesome.
Taco Del Mar Tacoma, WA
Yes, their burritos are huge but they are also bland. Not very good flavor on anything I've tried.
The Rock Brick Oven Pizza & Brwry Lynnwood, WA
Delicious pizza... full of flavor and lots of out-of-the-ordinary toppings to choose from. The crust is the best I've ever had. The brick oven just gives it that great wood-fired flavor. The calzones are great, too. My favorite thing on the menu is the Garlic Brown Sugar Mozzarella Bread. Sounds like a weird combination, but it's delicious! The brown sugar adds just a hint of sweetness to the bread. Yum!
Ruth's Chris Steak House Seattle, WA
The steak is delicious, but waaaaaayyyyy overpriced. Do yourself a favor and save $20; go to Costco, get a top sirloin steak, rub it with sea salt and black pepper, grill it until just done (overcooking dries it out) and voila, you have a steak just as good as Ruth's Chris steaks. But I must mention that the staff was very friendly and accommodated us with free appetizers for a long wait.
Gateway to India Tacoma, WA
Excellent but small Indian place. The food is fantastic but there is a serious space problem. I have never been there and not had to wait at least 15 mins. for a table, even for 2 people. There is not much seating for waiting, either. Lots of UPS students go here so it tends to be a younger crowd.
